Alternatives to bare metal foil
stitchdup replied to khier's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
you can get bmf like products in rolls 2 or 3mm thick. Look for nail art striping tape and its about a buck for 5 rolls (from china). Its doesn't have much give from side to side so not much use for curved areas but for straight pieces its does the job on body trim. The rolls arent very long being maybe 1 metre in length and are also available with chrome patterns (one has a convincing burnt polished metal look)and colours. Not quite as easy to work with as bmf but its shinier and can be used under acrylic clears as its usually sealed when used on nails. I'm not home just now but can get pics when i get back if anybody is interetsed -

Another resin 3D printer question
stitchdup replied to V8tiger's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I have 2 anycubic printers. I got a photon mono x back in october and i had a lot of trouble getting it to print consistently. After 5 months of tweaking and cursing the problem turned out to be the included memory stick. I was getting prints that looked like there was a bubble abour half an inch above the print plate. There was nothing wrong with the printer itself, just the memory stick and its now working consistently and succesfully 99% of the time. I also have an anycubic m3 max and its been awesome from the start. With it I can print up to 4 bodies or 2 bodies with basic chassis/interiors every 24 hours and not have to worry about the resin running out as it has an auto feeder. I was having second thoughts about printing with all the trouble i had with the mono, but i dont regret it now. I'm happy with them but it was a struggle for me in the beginning but my computer skills were pretty basic. I dont like the anycubic slicer, to me it seems over complicated so i use lychee slicer, its nice and simple for me to use. I did make another mistake when i bought the printer, my computer wasn't powerful enough to run the slicing software so i had to upgrade it. The slicer needs a min 8gb processor to work otherwise the computer will freeze up. -
try spot model, they are in spain but they have loads of decals for race cars and will print decals for you if you have suitable files. I'm near 100% certain they have sets of period sponsor decals and altenative decals for many race kits. I have a set of the porsche worthington decals from them (i like the cars history being more than just racing) and a set of rizla decals for the recent sierra cosworth kit on the way.

the aero wheels on the front in racing are used to help cool the brakes and is normally a cover that fits over another wheel. the holes around the edge suck cold air into the brakes and if you flip an aoro disc around to look at the back side it looks just like a bbs wheel without the holes. The different wheels are just a fashion thing now though since brakes are so mush better. i think Ken was trying to make the e-tron have some style link to the s1 that did pikes peak with Walter Rohrl driving with the different wheels. I think the sierra cosworth kit has a pair for the front wheels included in the kit i have. Personally I would have used a bbs wheel on the rear but since i started this around the time of Kens accident I went for what he had. I have 5 more of these kits to play with so there will be some other wheel combos done later

redacted files defeat the purpose of freedom of information requests

i didn't mean you could list them here sir, just that there are threads regarding disposing of kit collections that have some good advice on the different ways. appologies for any confusion

My thinking is why subscribe for files when you can buy them individually? There are other sites where you have a choice on what files you buy while this sounds like a take what you get sorta deal which kinda defeats my view of having the printer (ie. print what you want). Just a quick look at what the site would show me without my subscribing, showed files that are already on cults, some of them being free files already. It might be a good site in the future when its has more files and variety but for the moment its not for me. I will keep checking on it though, but for me the subscribing model doesn't suit. I wont rule out subscribing in the future though, things change

As some of you know I live on an island group in the north of scotland. Because of this theres a lot of nature i have only seen on tv. Well today I saw a real squirrel and a fox for the first time. I've also seen something thats a bit unusual regarding the magpie bird family. In edinburgh they are attacking parked electric cars, particarly tesla and porsches. I dont know why they are doing this but the non electric cars are being left alone. Maybe the cars are putting out a pitch of noise we cant hear but whatever the reason they absolutely hate electric cars. I dont see them attacking power lines so i dont think its the electric part, maybe something in the security system is affecting them would be my best guess as both these cars have proximity sensors.

What did you see on the road today?
stitchdup replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I saw a red lamborghini convertible today. Not sure what model it was but it had a italian flag stripe along the door bottoms and black wheels. But I dont have my camera with me but i'm sure you all know what a lamborghini looks like. I also saw something much more interesting to me, and I'm sure its something that many people dont even know exists. I found a pic of this one on the net but the one i saw was green. Its a reliant kitten pick up and while many sites say its a custom build its not, just standard production pick up that was not very popular. -

nicely done, the weathering looks convinvinng but i bet this smells better -
actor is a generic term for anybody that acts but it can also mean criminal in some law definitions or deliberate attacks, eg. japan was the bad actor in pearl harbour

Liking the tow truck Paul. I have a tip that might help with painting the tyres. For this to work you will need to drink a couple of extra strong coffees so your skin gets tha coffee sheen. If you spray the tyres the flat/matt black then once its dry rub your fingers on the your nose and then sorta polish the tyres with your fingers. The oils from your coffee skin will only affect the raised bits and give them a fairly convincing rubber sheen. I do this on chassis if they are just black so the details show better. This isn't the greatest pic to show it but the chassis on this was done this way and it gets more rubber like the more you rub your fingers on it. Maybe not the nicest way of doing it but it works for me and its pretty much free

Grill for the ยด55 Chevy heavy duty series ?
stitchdup replied to Michael F's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
if you have a printer your self, reduce it to 40% for 1/25 or contacting the designer can get you parts of the files sometimes. it may be that if you ask them they will make the grille available seperately -
I did easter with my nieces yesterday. Had a few hours hiding eggs and some tiny chickens for them to hunt, then we took turns hiding them and hunting. All was good til evening when i forgot pepsi max, while it has no sugar, has double the caffine.... it was a late night but i made sure my sister knew it was my fault so the girls didnt get in trouble. I only see them once a year usually so it was a nice change (and i can give them back, lol)

more modern cars with the sharper reds I use tamiya acrylic clear red, if its an older car with the dirtier looking red i use humbrol clear red as it has an older lookbut it a celulose paint. I sometimes use taliya clear orange under their red too if there are reflectors on the lense surface just for a subtle colour difference in those areas

for websire url I just have another forum i am an admin on. I dont think it is really a requirement though as not many people have a link under their siganature line. I dont know much about the socialmedia boxes, i dont think i have any ticked any of those boxes either but it was a long time ago. Unfortunatelly i cant help with selling off your kits but there are a few threads on here where other people have askethat could guide you

Your Approach to Building?
stitchdup replied to Calb56's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm a bit scatter brained in my bulding. I do start with a vague plan and direction but i let myself stay sorta loose on the plan. I am very happy to switch direction in a build as it progresses and I'l happily try something for the first time on the build without testing it on something else, if it goes wrong it goes wrong and thats some of the fun for me fixing my own mistakes. I'll see something random that has nothing to do with models and take ideas from that to use in my models. I enjoy the building part more than having a finished model too, finishing a build has a sorta depressing vibe for me so many of my builds stall when the primer goes on. I try to keep mybench neat but i find a messy dirty bench more useful to me, i might find a random part on the bench while I'm doing something else that starts off another project. As long as I'm enjoying myself or trying something new I'm happy to never finish a build but having got some weathering stuff I'm going to have to get something finished to have a play with them. I may have gotten older, but it doesn't mean i've grown up. Here a page from my school jotter when i was 5 or 6 years old -
the tags are there to help with the search function i think. i have never used tags on any of my posts and if you look at the thread titles the tags show up behind them in the lists of threads. the thread title will be in black bold writting while the tags would be in boxes behine the title. from this i would say dont worry about the tags as they are rarely used now. also your profile seems to show as much info as mine does so i think your going to be ok there as well. it will take a few days to get used to the forum but it will soon become second nature. It seems daunting at first as theres so much information and things to see when your new to computers but it does get simpler fairly quick. I'm sure if there were any problems with your profile the admins will point it out and help you if needed too. Theres a good bunch of folk on here with knowledge on almost anything you can think off so its worth hanging around just for that. if you do have problems everybody will try to help if they can, and it just takes another post in this section.

The Official EBay Discussion Thread
stitchdup replied to iamsuperdan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
if your doing bids the way i do it helps to not end with.99 or .00, go for an odd number like say 15.47 and you can sometimes win against people that bid 15.50 as their bid isn't the minimum above your bid but this is rare. i usually end my bids in the high 70s or low 80s and i've won items tht were bid at the dollar amount above my bid simply because the minimum above is .50
