I would love to know the back story....
Atmobil replied to Reeves Racing's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Ah, that makes sense Looks like it has a topper from a pickup put on it. I wonder how much one could salvage from this lot. With some careful use of tools and maybe after a time in the freezer one could possibly get most parts off and hopefully be able to strip most of the paint. -

Looks like there is a Ford GT90 in there aswell. Who made a kit of that? -

Is it just me thinking that parts from that could be used for kitbashing other offroad vehicles? I think this could be used for many cool things. -
I have two glass cabinets from Ikea in the livingroom, the Detolf. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/80269122/ I also have one larger pinewood-and-glass cabinet with models in it.

The 57 Nomad is one of my alltime favourite cars and on the top of my wishlist in 1:1 cars. I did have the Monogram 1:24 kit some years ago but I sold it again. I like your build. I have had several models with similar problem on the paint. I am not 100% as to what caused it but I do have a theory. The paints that I use as mostly touch-up rattlecans for 1:1 cars. All of the models that I have had a cracked paint problem on was painted and built some years ago when I did not have an inside paintbooth. I sprayed the cars in a cardboardbox outside and quickly ran inside the house with the body to let it cure in roomtemperature. I usually had the paintcans in roomtemperature before I sprayed but because of cold wheather I guess they could have gotten a bit cold wen I sprayed. I think that the problem may be because of the temperature difference when spraying and after I got inside with it, or it could also be that I did not wait long enough between layers of paint. Now (and since we moved in to our house in 2009) I have an inside paintbooth with heat and I always warm the cans a litte before painting plus that I let the temperature be quite high both before and after painting so the paint cures in a good temperature. Not so much that the plastic melts but above roomtemperature anyway. I also let the body (and other parts) sit for longer before applying more paint. I have not had this problem since we moved in to our house in 2009. This is just my theory and may not be the same as your problem.

I think that sound quite cheap considering what you get. There is a lot of old kits out there that command higher prices

TOMYTEC Nissan Cedric Gloria Wagon V20 Deluxe 1/35
Atmobil replied to Erik Smith's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I think maybe they are also they same company that are behind the Tomica die-cast toy cars. I have a VW baywindow bus somewhere from Tomica, it is about 1:64ish scale I think. -
Yes, the Revell kit has an engine and the front (grille, headlights, bumper) is separate. The taillights are also not molded in to the body like the AMT kit. I do find it very strange that AMT has made a kit of a European Ford (built in England, Germany, Spain and Brazil). Maybe it was targeted at a different market than the U.S.?

And here is a Ebaylink with the Revell XR3 kit: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/REVELL-7317-FORD-ESCORT-XR-3-1-25-SCALE-MODEL-KIT-OPEN-BOX-/321941055430?hash=item4af52ea7c6:g:gFoAAOSwxN5WZFBx

I had to dig out my Revell Kamei X1 Escort to take a look at that and that is not the same tooling. The AMT kit has an opening hatchback but the Revell kit does not. The parts look very different. You can see a picture of the box here:

Italeri's old Opel "Blitz"

Cool looking boxes, are they containing the infamous nazigold or is it some top secret machine they have developed? -
Anyone want to ride this??
Atmobil replied to gbdolfans's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yep, starting it takes a bit of time -
Cool project. I wonder, is this the same as the Revell kit? Or does it have some other origin? Strange that AMT made a kit of a European car.

TOMYTEC Nissan Cedric Gloria Wagon V20 Deluxe 1/35
Atmobil replied to Erik Smith's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Thank you very much for the pictures. I have seen this kit on the Hobby Search pages and I have thought of buying one but not done so yet. I guess the scale is the biggest issue for me. I also find it strange that Nissan made this bodystyle still in the mid 90s. It's looks remind me a lot more of the late 70s and eary to mid 80s Laurel that we got here. In the mid 90s the Nissans we got here was the Primera, Almera and Micra and all of them in a much more modern look. But I guess the Cedric/Gloria was a much bigger car that was never offered over here. I guess it would have competed with the Volvo 740/940 and maybe some other large wagons of the day. -

Thank you very much for the review. I have never heard of TILT before but have heard of Marui. I did a ebay search for tilt models and found several: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vintage-1980s-TILT-FERRARI-365GT-Lightable-Steerable-1-24-Scale-MODEL-KIT-MIB-/191734575890?hash=item2ca4457312:g:~Q8AAOSw5ZBWP~IC http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TILT-Ferrari-512-BB-1-24-Scale-Kit-Open-Box-Model-Car-Swap-Meet-/321935739609?hash=item4af4dd8ad9:g:HosAAOSwZjJU4Qzn http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RARE-1-24-Tilt-Motorized-w-FA-13-Ferrari-312T-Niki-Lauda-F-I-Formula-1-/252190899838?hash=item3ab7bfbe7e:g:g2gAAOSwLVZVlM5i http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Tilt-Motorized-Smokey-and-the-Bandit-Lamborghini-Jota-1-24-Scale-Model-Kit-/310693632472?hash=item4856c899d8:g:uQcAAOxyYYlRxQqq http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-24-Tilt-Motorized-w-FA-13-Lancia-Stratos-Headlights-Taillights-that-work-/252161792462?hash=item3ab60399ce:g:ktQAAOSwq7JT7WO1 But when I searched for Marui I also found some even if Ebay asked me if I was trying to search for Maru: Super cool looking toyota starlet kit: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TOYOTA-STARLET-16-VALVES-TOMS-RACING-1-24-MODEL-KIT-MARUI-JAPAN-/261193011383?hash=item3cd05110b7:g:yGIAAMXQgb1RRxMI http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PORSCHE-956-1-24-MODEL-KIT-MARUI-JAPAN-/262167987714?hash=item3d0a6e0602:g:AXcAAOSw6dNWTJyf http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NISSAN-FAIRLADY-260ZG-RACING-TYPE-1-24-VINTAGE-MODEL-KIT-TOKYO-MARUI-JAPAN-/370665551337?hash=item564d6375e9:m:mIAwGSdxc8c8O9d_-fDYU3A And if you ever played Super Mario brothers on NES: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Super-Mario-Bros-Bowser-Kuppa-MINI-MODEL-KIT-MARUI-JAPAN-/261604576271?hash=item3ce8d90c0f:g:LXMAAOSwfcVUEKhX They also have some really cool looking motorized 1:32 buggys but they are in my eyes to expensive. -

Retro Review ESCI Renault R-5 Rally Car
Atmobil replied to oldcarfan's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Yes, they had many cool kits. I have been lucky enough to collect a few of them over the years. Italeri and Revell have both re-issued some of the old Esci kits. Italeri reissued the Land Rover but without paying all the licence fees so they called it 4 wheel drive 109" LWB, here is a picture of the box: http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/NzUwWDEwMDA=/z/lzUAAOSwEeFU40L0/$_57.JPG They have also reissued the Ranger Rover Pars Dakar as the Ranger Rover Rally and the Mercedes Benz 230 G Paris Dakar and the Land Cruiser as the Armed Pickup (number 6352) Revell Reissued the Mercedes G wagen in fire brigade version. -
Retro Review ESCI Renault R-5 Rally Car
Atmobil replied to oldcarfan's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I have the re-issue of the Calberson rally car from Italeri. I have plans of making it in to a stock R5. I wish they could re-issue the Alpine and Police versions aswell. If you are thinking of the wide-body mid-engined rally car then you will find this one from Tamiya: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-24-Tamiya-RENAULT-5-Turbo-Motorized-Vintage-model-kit-/171995682251?hash=item280bbdd5cb:g:LjwAAOSw~bFWQ0Pd There was also a Japanese kit (I belive maybe Bandai) in 1:20 scale that was sold under the Entex label in the U.S. as Le Car -
1977 Ford 4x4 pickup
Atmobil replied to Maindrian Pace's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Yes, that grille really looks the part -
Cool projects, I kind of wish that I had a kit like this. Here in Norway these are still around on the roads but most have started to get very rusty and many have also had several engine overhauls. Here we usually got the Austrian built Chrysler Voyager version and because Norway is Norway mnay where sold with the Italian VM Motori 2.5L Diesel. An engine that works fine in a leisure boat in the mediterranean but does not work in a cold climate like we have here. The heads can't managed the temperature change from very frozen to hot engine and warp. Separate heads for each cylinder is a good idea, but not when the heads share bolts. If one head gasket fails you also have to replace the others, even if they are not failed.
