What did you see on the road today?
Can-Con replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That's like "327 Corvette engines". Every old clapped out piece of carp that was aloud on the street with a small block Chevy engine had a "Corvette 327 with fuelie heads and a 3/4 cam" even if it said it's a late '70s 305 2BBL when you looked up the serial numbers. ? -

What on earth are you doing in Moncton Greg?. The Atlantic Nationals aren't until next month. That's the time to be there. -
Yes, they definitely are. Looks like I was down stairs checking my '63 kit while you were posting this Patrick.

To quote from the Hurst/Olds Club of America's web page on the '74, "The engines were a 455 engine with a casting # 396021F or 396021FA, painted Oldsmobile blue or a 350 with casting #395558 painted Oldsmobile gold." Here's a link to that page. It's in pdf format. There might be some other info there you could use, Bill. https://www.hurstolds.com/tips/1974 Hurst Spotters tips.pdf

John's thinking of the Cutlass Supreme with the Monte Carlo style roof as opposed to the fastback. But, no, a lot of people thought it was going to be the Supreme but the only thing Revell ever showed samples of was the fastback.

I'm thinking it depends on the horsepower rating and what the engine's in determining the color. The 455 in the Delta 88 I had was gold, like this one, But I'd say metallic blue for a 455 in a 442 but I have seen them with gold and red too. Maybe the red and blue was a running change as I see more '69s with red and more '70s with blue but I have seen both colors in both years. It's kind of a kettle of worms as to the color. but I'd just pick whichever of the 3 you like. BTW, almost all the '70 W30 cars seem to have the metallic blue.

Fender Badges for MPC 64, 65, and 66 Corvettes
Can-Con replied to RDean58's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Model Car Garage has PE sets for those too. ? -
Not necessarily a "factory stock" tail light. Could be a lens from some custom option.
-
Maybe, seeing as it was once announced a couple years ago, maybe they're going to take another swing at this one.
-
Bondo, as we know it has been around since '55.

Gotcha ,Dale. ?

I have the Targa version. great kits that compare very favorably with the Tamiya EM kits but looks a bit easier to assemble so some might actually get finished. Only nit I can pick on these is the tires. They're pretty plain. The fronts and backs are actually slightly different size so you have to look out for that. In my kit, I got 3 of one size and one of the other but I won't be using them anyway. Lots of Canada love on the decal sheet though. Quebec, Ontario and British Columbia license plates are included on the Targa's sheet.

Nice hint Tom. SO, It's this one then.

Oven cleaner will take that right off. It seems to actually dissolve the thin foil and since they're unpainted, you don't need to worry about ruining the paint.

Taarna on her bird
Can-Con replied to Nazz's topic in All The Rest: Motorcycles, Aviation, Military, Sci-Fi, Figures
Very impressive work. Great movie too. Pretty well the whole male cast of SCTV was in it. A lot of the voice actors names would be familiar to those who grew up in Canada with our Canadian made TV and movies like Don Francks, John Vernon and Harold Ramis and produced by Ivan Reitman a couple years before Ghostbusters. Incredible soundtrack album too. -
That's correct. Lincoln started using the 460 in '68 and was the only engine available in the Continentals in '69. That's supposed to be a 430 in the '65. 462s started in '66 and were standard in Continentals until '68.. This is the engine in the '66 -'69 kits.
-
The '66 -'69 Lincolns were a completely different body from the '65s. The only thing the kits could share would be the chassis plate. Engines were different too.

Yea ,, looks like some cowboys had their way with those wheel openings too, Rex. Hogging out those wheel openings for big drag slicks must have been pretty popular back then.
-
You may be right about that Patrick. I'll give it a try anyway.

Almost ready for paint. Just need to fix that A-pillar. I think the 1/4 panels will need a bit more work too but just minor final smoothing out. I really should do something about that rear pan though. I'm pretty sure I'll be using the rear bumper from a Revell '69 Mustang or Shelby so the kit pan, which is molded to the chassis plate , will be too short for the new bumper. The repairs on the rocker trim at the rear wheel openings turned out OK. I was dreading that part. And I think I should sharpen up the lip on the rear wheel openings to match the fronts. The rears look quite "soft" compared to the fronts.

Would this paint mixture work or not?
Can-Con replied to Monty's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Yea, I would never mix lacquer and enamel, and especially never paint a car model with such witches brew of a mixture. ?
