  1. A few years ago my '77 Volare Road Runner was featured on the cover. Harry did the text and I did the pics,, and of cores the build. At the time, no compensation was discussed and I do not now or then expect any even though I had been told by many people that I should have been paid for something. Again, I didn't expect it than and don't now that years have passed. I might even try submitting an article again in the future , , , but I would expect compensation for that. ?
  2. Correct. It was switched over mid-year. To change the '79 Nova back to a '77 ,, or '78, you need the grille. Hood would work , BUT , the front panel below the headlights is different and that's molded to the body. If it wasn't for that it would be a simple matter of swapping grilles.
  3. It would take a heak of a lot of work to turn the '79 Nova back to that .. not to mention any Nova is at least 10 times more popular than that car.
  4. Yup, same here. Really, wouldn't mind having another one to do up with current techniques. Mike, I bet you're around 55, give or take? ?
  5. From what I'm reading "blue heron" and "green falcon" weren't colors but option packages ,,, can that be right? "Later in the model year another Newport was offered, with slightly modified trim borrowed from the 1955 New Yorker St. Regis. Depending upon the color ordered, these late versions were named "Green Falcon" or "Blue Heron" and came in 2 and 4-door versions. The 4-door sedans used the same trim package as the 2-door Newport." http://wildaboutcarsonline.com/members/AardvarkPublisherAttachments/9990549376637/1955_Chrysler_Info_1B.pdf The article dosen't say what exact shade of blue they were but the one pictured above looks like "stardust blue" and I see another one on the net that looks like either "glacier blue" or "turquoise" and the ones in the ads below look like "Mediterranean blue" and "surf green" poly, which are metallic colors.
  6. Jason, do you have a Michael's crafts in your area, or any craft store? I'd get some paint for stained glass like the Krylon stuff below. Walmart might even have it. Or even that Duplicolor Metalcast anodizing stuff from Canadian Tire.
  7. Thanks JC. I'll be able to use some of those for sure.
  8. One of my first cars was a '74 Bobcat wagon. It rusted out from under me never had a problem with the engine.
  9. First thing would be to finish the 3 I have on my bench right now ,, '72 Chevy stepside, custom '65 Impala and the '77 Pinto. ,, plus the Rodan Boeing 720. After that ,,, who knows? Wherever that darn squirrel leads me. ? Possibly a custom 1st gen Eldorado on a Riviera chassis? Maybe another hotrod. I was thinking last night of a "King T" but with a center door sedan body. Possibly build/restore my Astro 1 Corvair concept car.
  10. I was thinking turbo but since a turbo setup is in the custom reissue, I didn't want to be that obvious. SO, now I'm thinking something along these lines,,,
  11. That generation AMT Chevelle has been like that from day-1. Check out an original AMT '70 Chevelle promo, the sides have exactly the same mistakes. The MPC Chevelle may have been modified a couple times but it's still more accurate than the AMT.
  12. Lots of room Carl but I have something else in mind. ?
  13. You type your text and hit enter to make a space and then you paste your pic and then you hit enter again to make a space. and so on and so on.
  14. That blue part is a trailing arm. They call it a radius rod in the instructions ,, there should be one for each side.
  15. LOl,, pretty close after I added the sheet plastic under the hood. Looks like I'll have to add that crossmember and some motor mounts yet though.
  16. He's been selling them on e-bay for about a year now Gregg. Break out your savings because they go high. I looked at a real '79 in nice shape last fall I could have bought for less. ? And for all the work he put into it, I'm glad to see he's getting a good price. He has on on there now. I checked the past auctions and see the prices are coming down,, I'd expect , judging from the last few sold, that it'll go for around $350.
  17. Craig, your post has inspired me to try to finish up my 1/144 Rodan 720. "Starship One".
  18. I already fixed it Carl. The little arm got bent and jammed so it was stuck open. A couple minuets with a well placed pry bar and it's working again.
  19. Just incredible !! ???
  20. I will. Say, looks like the one in that pic still has the front wheels and metal axle on it. ?
  21. Looks like I'm gonna have to make some motor mounts. I checked the instructions and the rest of the kit parts and this is all there is. Only gluing points are the transmission crossmember and drive shaft.
  22. Yea, never happen.
  23. decided it was a good place to hide from the cops. They did get her sometime after she left my garage but she tossed the place looking for god knows what. A druggie that lives with her mother, as the cops told me. Didn't take the change from the cars or almost anything else but what she did take is just puzzeling. I had an old walmart bag in the trunk of the Saturn that I kept my brushes, putty knives, spackle and other painting stuff for work in. She dumped that on the floor of the trunk and took it. Took a bunch of paint rags I had in a strainer and took a small drop sheet. ,, and 2 pair of old cheap sunglasses. But she dumped out and went through every box that was in the garage quite a mess. Never took any tools or anything else that would have been easy pickings. What cheezed me off the most is in the process of going through my T/A she broke the drivers seat back. Dosen't lock in position now, just flops around and lays on the rear seat. I know, it could have been a lot worse but I've lived here for almost 14 years now and this is the first time it's happened here. I moved out of the other side of town to get away from this fecies.
  24. You really can't trust what you see on that site. I think about 75% of the pages I've seen there have major mistakes on them.
  25. Started on this AMT '77 Pinto a couple days ago. Pretty simple kit, the MPC Pintos were much better kit but ya gotta use what ya got, right? So far I've blended in the front clip and made simple inner fender walls. I'll also be cutting the bumpers away from their filler pieces and making new ones attached to the body so they'll be easier to paint body color. I think I have a better rear bumper without guards from an MPC '77 that I'll use on this car. The rear bumper in the kit looks like one from a later car. I think this should be an interesting little build. Not gonna be a drag car but will have a roll cage.
