Rodded '32 Chevy delivery
Can-Con replied to Can-Con's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Sitting in Easy Off for the last week didn't do much to take the first coat of dark blue off it so I thought I'd try rubbing alcohol. Started rubbing with paper towel wetted with 99% isopropyl alcohol and it rubbed right off. No idea what it was though. Must have been some kind of craft paint. Anyway, turns out the parts are in better shape then I expected with just minor glue rash in a couple spots. I have a kinda glue bomb version of the cabriolet that doesn't have the wells for the spare tires in the fender unit, just a couple small holes for exhaust pipes to go through. I'm gonna use that. I really don't want the fender mount spares on this build. -

Acceptance of 3D printed models?
Can-Con replied to jdhog's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Parts is parts. Doesn't matter if they came in a model box or 3-D printer. -
They look like the ones in the AMT '49 Mercury kits to me.
-
If they do put a flat hood in it. I'd say it will make a lot of people happy.

Looks great Tim Too bad that MPC went with the inaccurate pics in the brochure instead of getting the windshield frame and boot right. I always thought it was odd that GM let those mistakes pass.
-
Most likely. Only Monogram and a hand full of Japanese companies did a 2nd gen Camaro in 1/24. Wonder if it will have the flat hood like the car on the show. That didn't have a Z-28 hood.

From the pics I've seen, they're keystone Rogues. Note the strait sides of the spokes, not notched like the Klassics.

No worries David. A friend has offered a good pair of doors. ? -

Like Mark B. said above, it's in the old Revell '55 Chevy with the opening hood, doors and trunk.

Because they like it. Nice way to introduce yourself, by the way. Usually people at least do an introduction post before jumping right in and criticizing someone else's build. ? -

I know. No worries there. The problem is the damage done to the outside of the openings. That's gonna be a bit harder to repair. -

It's back in the dunk again after I took these pics earlier today. Gonna try to get some more of that old paint off. It's probably been on there for about 50 years. Overall, not in too bad a shape for being redone at least once. I was surprised that the windshield surround came out of the body in one piece. Looks like it's actually from the Cabriolet body, I haven't checked on line for directions but will. I've also found the missing back door. Too bad the glass was glued on from the outside and some damage was done. Doesn't look like an easy fix either. Bonus shot of probable wheel and tire choice,,Using the original spokes with resin 19" rims. -
Photo Etch Wiper Blades How to fold?
Can-Con replied to Len Woodruff's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Those are the Detail Master wipers. They're not made to be bent, just used as they are. The original discussion was about the Model Car Garage set, like these. Note the crease lines on the arms. -
You could do that but the front edge of the regular Skylark hood is quite different from the GS hood.

So yours is the reissue from the '00s then? -

I'd have to dig out my old one but I don't think those wheels are original to the kit. The original wheels had slightly thinner rims and IIRC, the ribs went right up flush with the spokes and were a touch thicker. Also not as deep as those seem to be. The red one could also be from one of this reissues of the '62 Vette kit. It's molded in red. -
A question for Mr. Goldman - Re Round 2

Another problem is Trans Ams have the front fender vents, the GTAs do not. IIRC, the last issue of the KR car I bought for parts did not have the vents. -
Stripping the clear coat under chrome?
Can-Con replied to Street Rod's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Peter, have you ever tried this? It's thicker then in the spray can, more of a jell than a foam so it sticks to the parts better and stays on plus since it's not an aerosol there's not as much fumes from it as the spray can. [but there are still fumes, of corse] -
Upcoming MPC Reissues - '79 Nova and '73 Cougar

I agree %100. Those stripes just look wrong on those later Novas. Definitely rather the side stripes. BUT, pretty sure Keith Marks does do those. I don't see them listed on his Fotki site but I do recall asking about them in the past. -
The scripts are from the MCG photoetch set for the '66. Needed 2 sets to do al the scripts on the '67.
