  1. Well, the whole Elky this has me watching the 'Bay for Street Machine Version. Now that I've seen what's in it, I want one. Man that '90's boxart did not do that kit any favors. Just using Round2's New "Vintage Style" boxart and updated decal sheet would have doubled sales. One will turn up at a price I can swing eventually. I look forward to building it. Heck, It might even carry a Soap Box Derby Car.
  2. So You're the one I have to Thank for this new obsession with MPC Camaro's. I just won a Night Prowler on the 'Bay. I've got one of these Thunder Z's on the watch list. Did it only have one set of rims on the Chrome tree?
  3. I like the way this looks. Might be my first Hudson build.
  4. Oooh! I like Dem Rims!
  5. I use "Lunatic Fringe" in an affectionate way. It denotes the folks who really care about the small details, from the "Buy & Build It" crowd who support the hobby by purchasing the bulk of all kits sold. In Aircraft & Armor Model forums, the same group are called AMS Modelers.(Anal Modeling Syndrome) These are the guys who will quibble over the smallest detail, when it is incorrect. (Or when they THINK it is incorrect). However, both groups have a symbiotic relationship with each other. The B&B guys are usually from the "Well, it looks like a Farley Fruitbat Mk IV from here" school of thought. They usually are not too concerned with the minutia of the kit. They live by Sir Thomas Sopwith's dictum, "That is it looks right, it is right". They buy most of the kits sold (apparently) and seldom show up on any online forums. The AMS guys sweat the small things. Any Detail, no matter how small, is measured, compared with Photos and Plans, and commented on if it look incorrect. These guys (when they are polite about it) help keep things from going off the rails. They contribute to the "Looks Right/ Is Right" appearance of the finished kit. However there Detail Guys can get easily side tracked in the weeds over the tiniest of errors, and they can be pushy about it. Those of us who mostly build cars don't see the heights this that this can get to. Hang out on a dedicated Airplane or Armor forum, and watch the flamewars erupt when a new kit comes out and the "experten" weigh in on how accurate, suitable, ect the new kit is. We car builders live in a much more mellow place online. Disclaimer::The Foregoing are MY opinions. Based on 15 years of observing and commenting on all three kinds of forums. I could easily have overstated (or understated) things based on what I've read, seen and done. My views are mine alone. Others may totally different opinions, view and experiences. YMMV.
  6. Sweet "Little Black Bullet"! Those Revell 'Stangs build up Cleanly.
  7. I've never seen an Edsel look so good.
  8. That Box Art does invoke a certain "Buy it NOW!" response in some modelers. (Me included)
  9. Nice to learn something new. Even better to see that the Manufacturer is ahead of the 'lunatic fringe' on accuracy. Great Work, Dave M.
  10. Nice Paint. That colour works for that car.
  11. Neat Build! Has a nice 'nostalgia' vibe to it. Looks like something you'd see at the track at the March Meets.
  12. Heck, I'd buy a Rattler if they released one.
  13. I think it is a bit soon for a re-issue. I suspect that the secondary market still has plenty on offer. But, I could be entirely mistaken. Revell has been releasing old T.D. kits at a rate of 2/3 a year, so the R.R. might be up on the list sooner rather than later. Either way, I'm not too sure how much pent up demand there may be (or not be) for this kit.
  14. I've never seen that old Monogram Model A look so good! Your attention to detail, and rewired wheels, just add to an outstanding build.
  15. Full Flares, Big Spoiler, 5-spoke Mags, Bright Two-Tone Paint, Lame 1980's engine. The "All Flash, No Dash" look that was about all you could get in the '80's. That is when I graduated,(1981) so that is what I want to capture.
  16. My Grandma had one of those, but she lives in West Covina. Is that close enough? Great Build! I really like the colour.
  17. Beautiful build. I'll just never get used to those huge rollers under 1960's Iron, though.
  18. This is just great. I'm a big fan of Tubs, too, and this one is just a homerun. I can't wait to see it complete.
  19. I'm going a completely different direction with my Volare, but seeing your;'s is an inspiration. Keep it up.
  20. Ah, Thanks. I read that and then forgot it. No Fun getting older. (sigh)
  21. Wow! Great Save.
  22. If you watch old 1950's movies or TV, you'll note that the majority of the cars seen on the streets and freeways look like this one. The less expensive 'Plain Jane' cars always outsold their flashy brothers. Your build is a superb rendition of what the average American bought, when he bought a new car back then. This is an Outstanding Build! P.S. Bring Back the Dio. The plain background works well for this particular build, but not most of them.
  23. RickRoller, as you probably already know, Revell is bringing back the RX-7 as a 2'n'1 kit. I'm on board for at least two of them.
  24. Thanks for sharing that pic, Casey. I had not really realized that the Soap Box Derby car was only six pieces. I wonder if Ronud2 found the original tool, or started fresh?
