Revell's "new" Jeep & Snowmachine kit
stavanzer replied to stavanzer's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
That is what I thought I remembered. I'll be really curious to see if the Sled tree looks like the one you show. It would be nice if that push bumper makes it into the Jeep Kit. -
The directions are up at the Revell Website. Seems to be the last Issue "Pink Poison" kit, with the Skidoo thrown in. Looking at the old "Ice Patrol" kit instruction's at the Drastic Plastic Website, the part numbers on the Snowmachine or the same from the old "Ice Patrol" to the new Jeep kit. IIRC, the parts for the Skidoo in the older kit were mixed in with other parts, not on a tree by themselves. But, I could be suffering from CRS, so that my not be true. Revell could have cloned the parts, as well, but I don't see why the part #s would stay the same. I ma also baffled by the "Chrome Parts" call out. Looking at my copy of the "Pink Poison" kit, the only tree that might be chromed would be the Roll Bar, Gas Can, & Brush Guard sprue. Either way, I look forward to this kit. Always great to have another Pickup Kit, and being a Jeep makes it even better. Now, if we could just get Revell to bring back the Dune Buggy Snap Kit, I'd be golden.

Man, I want one of these. First the '72 Blazer, and now this. Wonder if it will have the Desert Dogs or the 'Firestones' (ex-Gates Commando) tires that were in the Blazer. At least we will get new decals. Maybe some blocked off parts too. Now to find some U.S. Forest Service Decals.
-
Yeah, I like it too. Template would be fine for the package shelf. I'll take one.
-
Bill, you said it all. I agree with you 110%
-
Ron, you really want one of these Avanti's. I had three, did not think I needed one more. After opening the box and looking at the parts, decals & tires in the new issue, I wish I had bought more than one.It is that nice. It will be a great build. Even if the New Tool Halibrands wind up under the Sock-it-to-me Vette.

Talking about Foose's styling in regards to "this car only". Seems really silly to brag about it being a Caddy 'Eldorod' when the two most prominent Caddy styling cues (Grille & Tail lights) Have been smoothed and replaced with pretty generic looking, 'kinda' GM inspired parts. The Grille and tail light lenses, might indeed be one-off, handmade custom parts, but the whole vibe to me is 'Bloated, Bland, Semi-General Motors inspired, 1950's Era, Cruizer" Rather than a specific Cadillac Inspired Rod. The Foose '56 Ford pickup retains the most prominent Ford styling cues, and has a distinct, 'Better than Ford' look to it. The Eldorod could be anything really. It would be as easy to believe that it was a Pontiac-Buick-Oldsmobile Rod, as it was a Cadillac Rod. In fact I suspect that the average Car Show attendee, would be hard pressed to know WHAT it was. The only real chatter you would hear at most American Car Shows about it, would be either strong 'Like' or 'Dislike'. What sells this car is more 'Who' than 'What' IMHO. If "Robbie" the Bodyman" built this, it would be a coin toss, as to whether it ever made it into the public eye. Foose is a smart guy and is "Making Hay while the Sun Shines" as my Grandfather used to say. I don't blame him a bit, but make no mistake. His creations are 'Checkbook Rods" just the same as any other member of that much maligned class of Showcars. His just require a much larger checkbook. In Fact, to compete at the level Foose (and others) play at, ALL the cars are just Owner Financed, Custom Built Toys. If they were not Rich Men willing to purchase the creativity of builders like Foose, none of the Top Tier Winners of the AMBR or Riddler would have ever been imagined or built. Which is fine. But lets not pretend about what these cars are. They are very sophisticated Fantasies, designed by Dreamers, and paid for by wealthy folks to win awards in a vicious competition for Top Dog bragging rights. Alan P.S. My Eldorod is already under construction. I'm thinking either Red or Gold for the Colour.

So mebbe you can find out what the heck kinda miniature Air Cleaner is on the Friend of Friends car? That one in the S&H kit is the oddest looking Dual Carb Air Cleaner, I've ever seen. -
Anybody have photos of what was in the "Stevens International" kit?

I've got a Glue-Bomb of that Woodie. I'd like to get another. Is it rare now?

AMT 57 Chevy Bel Air Review Needed
stavanzer replied to CEKPETHO BCE's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I just hope Round2 has invested in some tool repair, along with restoring some parts. I like the sound of Two Chrome trees, and I hope it will have more than 6 tires. Notice that the flyer does not mention any added old parts, so the plastic may wind up being 90% of the last Boyd version. Time will tell. But New Tires, New decals, and fresh white plastic will sell a great number of theses kits. I know I'll be in for a couple. -
It is a "Dog's Breakfast" of a kit. A Mish-Mash of leftover parts, odd bits and the residue of three or four different versions over the years. Many Great parts, esp on the chrome tree, but not a great kit overall, IMHO. I've read some strong critiques of the accuracy of the body shapes, and the grille and bumpers. Supposedly the bumpers are an odd mixture of '71,&'73 features, meaning they are not correct for either year. There are enough parts in the box to assemble a complete model car, but it is in no way, shape or form, an accurate replica of any real car. Racer or otherwise.

Casey, I like your list. I'm in for a couple of Autocar trucks, if they were to happen. Maybe Round2 will even spring for some new or re-tooled parts for some of these kits. Oh well, it will be nice to have any of them on the list back. They'll at least get fresh decals and pad printed tires.

MPC Chrysler Hydro-Vee "Charger" Boat Kit and Other Boat Kits
stavanzer replied to tim boyd's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Wow, Alan! That is a Laser Sharp build. You may have just sold on this kit. All it needs is a trailer. Alan Alexis -
And, Just No! A pretty poor kit even by 1960's standards, and recently available too. Yellow Glass, Decal Options & Pad Printed Tires...... Not enough incentive there, Kats. The Trailer? A flimsy, lightweight thing, and not very realistic. In May or June of 2018, when Hobby Lobby puts them on clearance, I'll get one. Maybe..... YMMV.
-
This wil be a curbside, right?
-
Curtis, I expect that the seats will be exactly the same as every other version of this tool. The grille may be new though.
-
Aw, Dang! I avoided the '75 and '76 Kits, but this one....... I'll have to buy one. The denim does it for me.

Which Countach is the better kit?
stavanzer replied to JollySipper's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Bob F. Chuck beat me to it, but "Customer Demand" is the correct answer. Over in military modeling, Sherman Tanks, P-51 Mustangs, and Me (Bf)-109s its all the time. Each time they are advertised as "Newer", "Better", or "Improved" in some subtle way. And they sell. In great numbers. And so it continues. Auto Modeling is pretty much unique in that instead of getting new tools of old favorites, we just get re-issues of the same old tools. If we are lucky, we get a few new parts added, or "lost" parts re-tooled. I suspect that much of this is driven by cost. Multi part slide molds for one piece bodies are far more expensive than the 'flat' tools needed for most planes. -
