  1. This has my attention. I drive a school bus and would like to build a model of one, although not like the one I drive - much too modern. Where did you find this body?
  2. A welcome from another Tarheel. I lived in Goldsboro for a couple of years back in the early 70's, a little place called SJAFB. Now I am retired and living in the beautiful Foothills, about 30 miles west of Winston-Salem. Like you I built as a kid, although not with my Dad, sold them all off in '84 - got tired of packing every couple years while touring the world in the Air Force. Reentered the hobby in the late 90's. I build a little of everything, although I will usually gravitate back to Saturday night circle-trackers or drag cars from the 60's-70's. Looking forward to some of your posts, let's see some of your builds.
  3. Excellent build. Great job on the weathering. I like it. I'll bet that takes up a whole lot of shelf space.
  4. Excellent, the only thing missing is a rattlesnake between the rocks.
  5. I refuse to accept a "Camaro, Mustang, Challenger" with a 'B' pillar and a sedan roofline. When NASCAR ever decides to bring the cars back to a more semblance of a stock body, I may become interested.
  6. Really looks good, especially using a clay mold. Reckon you could do a body that way?
  7. Maybe he is trying to justify to himself the reasoning for purchasing a riding mower to start with, or maybe to justify to his wife why he needed it. I have always felt some of those people up in the "high country" of NC were a bit effected by the cold air. Personally, I like to visit but will gladly reside in the Foothills.
  8. Cool custom, a real tail-dragger. Where did you access the Packard taillights?
  9. My most favorite car I ever owned was a 1965 Chevelle SS with a 283 four speed. It may not have been the best, but it sure was fun to drive. My second most favorite was a 1972 Volkswagen Wesphalia Van, had a real blast with that one.
  10. With a big enough shoehorn and a lot of ingenuity it can happen.
  11. Guess I could change it to an Outlaw, but that would mean NOx, turbos, or prochargers and this one is giving me enough headaches. So my story is it is a local build for the local unaffiliated dragstrip.
  12. Picked up an Escort kit at last Fall's CKM model show. It was missing a few pieces, but that didn't bother me too much because my plans all along was to use the Firefighter chassis and build the Escort into a Pro-Stock. Well all good plans of mice and men.... Chassis would not fit - of course not, they were totally different wheelbase cars. Anyway I drug out one of the Revellogram 55 Chevy Pro-Streets and began to copy that chassis design to fit under the Escort, it was tedious but came out better than I expected. I will be using the Firefighter engine (cough, cough). The front of the interior is from the Firefighter, the rear green portion is from a box of stuff I got off Ebay and I believe is from the Revell Snap Pro-Stock Firebird.
  13. If those pictures in the background are what you are aiming for then this one will definitely be fun to watch. You did a good job on the section. Looking forwad to updates.
  14. That is pretty much the way I do it. I will assemble all the parts going to be the same color, prime them, then paint. Once dry I will take my brush and detail paint the areas that need it.
  15. Good looking Grissom car. The only time I remember seeing him drive was for Hedrick (?) Motorsports out of Statesville, NC and he wrecked big time. I want to say the wreck was at Daytona, but I do remember the car was ripped in half and the rear axle came loose. My only thought when seeing that wreck was that NASCAR had lost another one, however he crawled out of the wreck and walked away.
  16. From the looks of the hood scoop going through the windshield, I would guess this is an early funny car and the driver is actually sitting in the middle of the back seat.
  17. This is the perfect use for a food dehydrator. Do not use the one you use for food, find a good used one at a yard sale or flea market. It will still take some time and will need to be done in 30-45 minute segments (controls heat buildup), but it will dry much quicker and a bit harder finish.
  18. Definitely a good job on the build. I think what is throwing me off is the front appears to be sticking out too far beyond the fenders. Looking at the 1:1 picture it looks as if the bottom of the front pan is flush with the bottom of the fender, and the resin body looks to be sticking out a scale 3-4 inches.
  19. What I am suggesting is to find the center and cut an equal amount from front of center and rear of center, the X should then line up. Even if you have to remove the complete middle section you can you should still be able to shave from the front chassis section and back section to get the frame pieces to align. Here is a rough drawing of what I am suggesting. Now that I looked at your concept picture I am wondering how my suggestion will work with the front suspension being moved forward. Of course you could always clean off the IFS and replace it with a tube axle. Hope this helps.
  20. http://www.resinrealm.net AS others have said, good product, excellent service.
  21. Definitely looks doable, and as been mentioned someone, somewhere in a backyard garage probably did one. As for the X-frame you could bolster the stock frame by running "2X3 inch steel tubing" from the front to back just inside the body panels. You will also need to shorten the frame, my suggestion would be cutting the center of the X evenly front to rear to assist in realigning the frame members. Now dig out your X-Acto saw and start cutting.
  22. Just completed a trade with junkyardjeff (Jeff Ogden) and am well satisfied with the result. Would be glad to trade again.
  23. Beautiful build. Really love those style trucks. I owned a 74, drove it until some lady caught me in a glancing head-on on a divided four lane, yeah, she was a bit influenced. Put a California Step-side on it, drove it for awhile then traded it for a 78 King Cab, that one was my favorite.
  24. Even from the initial release of AMT's Double Dragster I have wondered about the inspiration of the side-by-side dragster. Today I found this photo of Dode Martin's dragster.
