Is it just me, or has the site slowed down again?
TarheelRick replied to russosborne's topic in How To Use This Board
It appears to me when I first open the site everything is normal. However after opening two or three posts it begins to slow way down, sometimes taking 30-45 seconds to open a post. This only happens on this particular forum. -
Early '60s, NHRA Legal C/Gas Supercharged Gasser
TarheelRick replied to traditional's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Beautiful Gasser, one of my favorite classes from the "real" drag racing days. Excellent workmanship, beautiful build. -
Very realistic looking Gasser. Love everything about it, and that rust job is outstanding. The only thing I see wrong is that a truck this rusty would have to have at least one door handle missing so you would reach in through the window to open the door - j/k. Really like it.

Van on the Run, updated photo links
TarheelRick replied to MGL's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Excellent work. You have definitely captured the 70's with this one. Not a big money show van, but an everyday cruiser; interior is simple and functional. This is what is meant by "Keep on Truckin'" or "If this van's rockin', don't come knockin'". -
Excellent, outstanding work. From the looks of the corner of the door stoop you may have used too much salt during the ice storms.

Whats your work area like?
TarheelRick replied to Dann Tier's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
When we remodeled our house I had the contractor save all the interior doors with the idea I was going to use them to wall off a corner of the basement for my work area. I split a couple of the doors for a work table. -
1/25 Vintage engine parts question
TarheelRick replied to '70 Grande's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
This set-up, or one very similar, was also available for the 409 in the original Trophy Series '57 Chevrolet, as well as some of the later repops. -
Absolutely gorgeous work on this one. I wouldn't mind driving that one down the boulevard on cruise night. What is that color?

Need Info on '63 Ford Galaxie Chassis Swap
TarheelRick replied to ToyLvr's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I remember that article and am pretty sure I still have the magazine. I am going to be quite busy most of the day, but will look tonight if I get a chance. -
Simply amazing work. The whole design and execution of this build is outstanding. I really enjoy watching the results of an artistic modeling mind come to fruition. Keep those updates coming.

Favorite Obscure or Discovered Music Album
TarheelRick replied to afx's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
From back in my "experimentation" days while serving with the USAF in Thailand, one of my friends introduced me to Osibisa. There are a couple of really mind-gathering rifts on this one. -
Painting question
TarheelRick replied to Vietnam Vet67's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I am not an expert painter by any means. But I would definitely suggest using a primer, especially under the acrylics. A good primer coat will allow you to first notice any areas of the body which will need attention, i.e. mold lines, sink marks, etc. Secondly, it will give a bit of "tooth" for the acrylic to adhere to. BTW, welcome home from another Viet Nam era vet. -
WOW!!! That is one beautiful Dart. Really like the flared fenders and that color is awesome. Nice work on the interior also. Overall, a clean, outstanding built.

Finally! Nice Headlights!!
TarheelRick replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
"The trick is to find lenses with the "waffle" detail ridges in the outside of the lens." Just wondering if you were to use the molded chrome headlights that you are replacing, would they work as well for a mold master as a separate clear lens? I bought my Bondic at WalMart for around $10-12. Haven't had an opportunity to use it yet. -
Wow, that is one clean build. Thank you for posting it. I went with my Dad to see the brand new 1957 Chevrolets at Pioneer Chevrolet in Yadkinville, NC. Of course the dealership has long been closed, bought out and moved to another location. The old buildings are still there, but are in very poor condition. Went by the old Pioneer Chevrolet this afternoon on the way to my aunt's for Thanksgiving Dinner.

Mighty fine looking restoration. That being said, those Edsel's were beyond ugly, especially the taillights.

Dodge L700 car hauler
TarheelRick replied to restoman's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
That is a really beautiful rig. Everything about it looks so right, a well-backed dealership sponsored rig maybe or someone with a bit of extra cash laying around would own such a rig. Great work. -
1960 Chevrolet rusted out
TarheelRick replied to Cardz's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Excellent weathering. Hope you have had your tetanus shot before continuing this build. -
Beautiful old Ford, came out really nice even with the troubles. That continental kit looks big enough to hold a AA/FD slick .

Is it just me, or has the site slowed down again?
TarheelRick replied to russosborne's topic in How To Use This Board
I have my ad-blocker turned on and the site is responding very slowly - almost "dial-up" speed. I am using fiber-optic DSL, windows 7 HP. AS others have stated this is the only forum that is this slow. -
Sierra Hotel is the phonics for the letters S & H. This being a family oriented site I can not tell you what the "S" stands for - it has four letters, but the "H" stands for Hot.

Some really creative building. Wonder if this is the forerunner of Pro-Mods of the future?
