Is it just me, or has the site slowed down again?
TarheelRick replied to russosborne's topic in How To Use This Board
Not trying to be a PITA, but it appears to me what is being mentioned about slow response has noting to do with our personal computer. What I am experiencing is a totally random slowdown throughout this site. I may open the site and go through three or four posts and they pop right open, then the next one will take upwards of a full minute to open. Or it may take the site a minute to open and every post will be slow opening. Yet, I have on occasion not had any problems at all. The whole system is really frustrating, not to mention I have not received a magazine in almost six months. -
72/90 chevy stepside
TarheelRick replied to cgvette's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Excellent build. The marriage of new and old really works with this one, and the color is over the top. My first ever new vehicle was a '72 Chevy C-10 Custom longbed, so I have a special affinity for this body style. Have you done something to the grille? For some reason it just looks a bit different than a stock C-10 grille. -
Nice looking trailer. That is one of my favorite scratchbuilding subjects. One suggestion I would make, and the kit should have been built this way, is to have a crossmember across the rear of the trailer connecting the two sides. Those two ramps will do quite a bit of oscillating going down a rough road if they are not connected together.

Bring on the "CrowMod" or "Murder Nova", this Bird will make mince meat out of them. I love everything about this build. Being retired USAF I really like the paint scheme.

Interesting build. Any pictures of the chassis?

1.1 cars that got away
TarheelRick replied to l88 chevelle's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Wish I had my '65 Chevelle SS back. It was only a 283, but it sure was fun to drive. I installed a set of Hedman tri-y hedders, a quadrajet carburetor, chrome-reverse wheels with 9:00 x 15 tires on rear. .It had been wrecked, really minor damage, but it was parked in a shed beside the house and Dad sold it while I was stationed in the Aleutians while in the USAF - the title was in his name. -
F1 Hedge ... not what you think

You might keep an eye on that guy in the front with the lawnmower! -
Modelling Oddities/Mistakes
TarheelRick replied to NY Modeler's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That is probably because the Impala uses many of the same pieces (chassis, engine, etc.) as the Alternomad kit, which is a late model custom Impala with '57 Chevy rear quarter-panels. -
Black braided hose question
TarheelRick replied to MeatMan's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
This is available from Hobby Lobby for $1.99. I'm not really sure if they have other sizes, but I am heading down that way in a few minutes and I will look to see. -
I was there the year you brought the English Ford. I remember some of the guys were talking about a really cool hot rod in the parking lot so I went out to have a look. When I saw it I recognized it from some build pictures on another forum website. That is one slick ride.

Beautiful early custom. I can see the pearl effect in the paint; a well laid pearl paint job is obvious even in subtle lighting. Everything about this one screams "old school".

Do you ever bring any of these to the Clemmons' show? I have been there for the past few years trying to thin my stock down. Would really like to get with you this year.

Academy Hyundai Grandeur HG/Azera, off the ship
TarheelRick replied to Edward Gore's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Just came across this build. Looking very good and an interesting presentation. I scored two of these while visiting my in-laws in Pusan, Republic of Korea back in 2015. They are patiently awaiting their time on the bench. -
Where have you kept this one, in a climate-controlled vault? That is an amazing looking survivor, the decals are still flat, the tires have not melted to the rims, and the paint looks flawless. Thanks for sharing it with us.

73% I think I will try it again to see if I can do any better. Well they do allow retakes in school. -
Dune Buggy Aftermarket Engine Kits?
TarheelRick replied to BDSchindler's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
A chrome turbocharged Corvair is also available in the Competition Parts Kit, which includes a Hemi, a SBC, a Pontiac, and an Allison V-12, plus a T-bucket body to build an altered drag car. They are still available but are beginning to gain the "collectors" price tag. -
1953 Chevy Gasser "White Lightning"
TarheelRick replied to roadhawg's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Beautiful Gasser. I am amazed by the accuracy of your decal work. How did you get the gold on the "Tattoo" decal? -
Very interesting build. The weathering is superb and your scratchbuilding skills are outstanding. I saw one of these recently on the Discovery Channel's "Mountain Men". Eustice, who lives in the North Carolina mountains built a similar contraption to power his pick-up. Amazingly it did work. Keep those updates coming.

Hmmm, I may need to move there, looks like my kind of town, hot rods everywhere. Really clean work.

Or maybe to "loosen" him up a bit.

My last '16 build. AMT '40 Ford vintage box art
TarheelRick replied to FordRodnKustom's topic in Model Cars
Can't add much more than what has already been said. Really does capture the look of the box art. I built an original of this kit back when it actually was an original issue. Loved it then and now have another repop in my stash to build when I get to it. Nice job and that B&W display is beautiful. -
I picked up two of the Lindberg '54 Ford Hardtops in my local Cracker Barrel many years ago. Back in the late 90's when I got back into the hobby I found an opened JOHAN Boss Hoss F/C at a pet store. When I was a kid and first got into kits I used to buy from Griffith's Stationary Store, Roses, Ben Franklin's, Western Auto, and Kennedy's Auto and Hardware Store, all in the small town close to where I lived; unfortunately they are all gone now, as is most of the town. Most recently I picked up two Academy Hyundai Grandeur/Azeras at a Korean style big-box store in Pusan, Republic of Korea.
