Going to be a nice one when finished. You got a whole lot of chrome work to do on this one. Your selection of eggshell white is a good choice, although I am partial to their baby blue. Keep the updates coming.

What did you see on the road today?
TarheelRick replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Had to make a special trip to the Dentist for a chipped tooth, appointment was at 8:15. Saw this when I came back outside around 8:45. -
Got my copy yesterday. Have only had time to do a cursory look see, but what I saw I liked.
-
Anybody on the East Coast got their copy yet? Mine still has not shown up in NC.

Very impressive build. That particular style Z has never been improved upon by Nissan, but your adaptation sure does make it look better. Great job.

Beautiful roadster, love the SOHC between the rails. Very clean and well detailed. However, it is not an A/G car, with the blown SOHC and other modifications it should run AA/A which designates supercharged altered. Still a beautiful build.

Very nice little rod. Really like that paint, especially since you did it with a brush. I have trouble getting my paint cans that smooth. Beautiful build.

Inspiration Build
TarheelRick replied to TarheelRick's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Got it boxed right now until I can get my 50 Ford convertible custom finished. It is closer to being done so I am focusing on it. -
If I am doing major surgery on a body, such as sectioning it, or shortening it, I will often use Acrylic Nail Filler to put it back together with. It is stronger than any glue joint, but it is a bear to sand down. On my last section job, I put some .10 styrene strips behind the cut area and used that to reinforce the joint, it also gave me a base for putty in areas that I didn't get the straightest cut. A good styrene glue, such as Plastiweld, or even straight MEK will work. The biggest issue is to get your cuts as straight and clean as possible then realign the parts as near to original as possible. That way you will have a better gluing surface and less need for putty. Hope this helps a little bit.

I know there is a post covering this topic, but my search has not brought up anything useful. I am looking for the tape recorder or phonograph player that came in some of the earlier 60's kits, maybe Trophy kits. Anyone have any clues as to which kits these may be found in?

What Tools Should I Get?
TarheelRick replied to oldcarfan's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
You mentioned XActo knives, but did not mention XActo razor saws or Zona saws whichever you prefer. Tweezers of assorted styles and sizes are always handy. Sprue cutters are also pretty much a necessity. Another thing I find quite useful are those bags of small, plastic, multi-colored clamps Harbor Freight sells. The list is inexhaustible, there is always one more tool someone is offering that you just have to get. -
Well done on a so-so kit. Really like the color and as mentioned the name fits it well, also enjoyed the phrase along the rear panel (Fords rule).

Very well done modified. Those old truck frames add so much more realism to the older modifieds, used one on my '40 Willys modified. Looks like you may be needing a new left front, it appears as if the cord is showing in a couple of spots. Great build all the way around.

Only problem is, in 2021 no one knows what they are or how to use them.

'Forest Find' - Third and final upgrade...hopefully!!!!

Excellent work, very nice weathering. Is that a WalMart shopping cart stuck between the trees? I am going to have to go back through these pictures later, when I have time to just pick out the details. Thanks for sharing. -
Originally there was a rear seat in the car, the rear wheel wells came just that far. Since I have removed the rear seat the original pieces are too short. I have thought of trying to add on too them, but they do have some compound curves that would be difficult to match. However, if they can be modified to use it would carry the "factory" look to the pick-up box.
-
No, this is going to be a Magnum SRT8RPU (Roadster Pick-Up) I am talking about the rear inside fenders. The problem is finding or building something that looks right. Sort of want it to have a factory look, but may have to resort to scratchbuilding something to fit. Will look at that again when I get it back on the bench.

My former VFW post commander owns a black one. It had been dropped a little bit and has one healthy rumble when he gets a bit heavy-footed. Here is one I began working on over two years ago, it stonewalled over how to build inner-fenders. Will need to get back on it when I finish three or four more that have been idle for more than two years. That hemi engine is a masterpiece. I opened the grille, it will be backed with black mesh.

More than likely you will pass more than one gas station before you get to a charging station, especially out in the open country.
-
I guess I am old and unable to accept some change and EV is one of them. I was talking with a gentleman who had just purchased a used Tesla. I questioned him about the range and how he knew where to find charging stations. His reply was the car had a navigation system which identified charging stations, so you determined your route by where the charging stations were. My thoughts are, what if I do not want to take that route; maybe I want to take a more back-country scenic route. A good friend of mine works at a nuclear power station with one of the major eastern power companies. He is adamant that the power grid is unable to support a large influx of EV's. Also mentioned to the Tesla owner how much I enjoyed the slight rumble of the exhaust on my F-150. He said the Tesla has a recording of engine noises. That makes we think of the vegetarian who buys a plant-based hamburger, why not buy the real thing and get the full flavor. Rant over.

74 Ford F100
TarheelRick replied to bill lanfear's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
That is one mighty fine F-100, colors fit it well. Nice clean build, good job. -
Went fishing yesterday. I do that more often now that I am retired. My friend and I caught 12 catfish and two sunfish. I had the good fortune to catch this beauty: unofficial 26" nose to tip of tail fin and 10 #'s. Best part is I caught it on my ultra-light rod spooled with 4# test line. Put up a good fight.
