  1. The Galaxie 46-48 Coupe is rather easy to come by at around $35. If you could find the different trim parts from one of the die-casts listed in the thread mentioned, grafting them together shouldn't be too difficult.
  2. I would rather see Dale Jr. take on early retirement from driving. While losing one of the most popular drivers in NASCAR history would be a big loss, he is also one of it's most over-rated. It would be much better to see him bow out from driving gracefully than watch him milk the family name for the next decade or so, riding around at the back of the pack, piling up DNFs and DNQs, to the point where merely finishing a race would seem like a victory (like Michael Waltrip and Kyle Petty). That would really be sad!
  3. Nice work, Kevin! I've always loved Cougars, but have heard many horror stories about that kit. You did well!
  4. Very nice save, Al!
  5. That is really cool, Kerry! Did you have to go through concussion protocol?!
  6. Very nice, Randy! Don't see too many of those built stock.
  7. Nice save, Al! I always like to see the old Mopars come out of hiding!
  8. I'm sure that even in 1949 the Chief's was pretty cushy!
  9. Don't know if they were using vinyl that far back, Jim, especially on a higher-level car like a Mercury. But, either way, whether it was genuine or imitation leather, you have the right idea.
  10. I would really like to see that one too, Dave! I have a full set of the old Gabriel metal kits that these look VERY similar to, but Gabriel never made anything close to that ambulance! Just a thought, but when ERTL last released the original Hubley metal Duesenbergs, Packards, Chevrolets, and Model As as well as the Gabriel Ts that fire engine was the only one that was not re-issued, now we have this one with an uncanny resemblance to the original! I realize that the Gabriel kit is listed as 1/20, the ICM one as 1/24, but it seems very coincidental.
  11. Two of my LHSs still have a few of each. With no way to build either of them stock I normally wouldn't give them more than a cursory glance, but with all the discussion going around about damaged molds, they piqued my curiosity. The owners the shops weren't aware that there was a problem!
  12. Nice work. Especially like the machine turned panel on the dash.
  13. Was that the '70 Galaxie police car you started with, Michelle?
  14. It looks good other than the two issues mentioned. Sound like this kit, as well as the Revell one, are like the old proverb "Beware what you wish for..."! So many of us fall for a kit of a beautiful old chrome dinosaur of a Ford, with the really cool retractable hard top to boot, but when we actually try to build the darn thing...!
  15. While I'm certainly not in a position to question either one of you guys, I'd have to agree with Steve on this one, Bill. There is a lot more "gingerbread" on the side of the New Yorker that kind of makes it look like there is a difference in length from the 300, which has a much cleaner profile. Also, from the picture of the black car at the auction, as well as the period photo of the white car, the rear wheels definitely look like they are off-set (further to the front) rather than centered in the wheel well. So, while the wheel base of the 300 may actually be a few inches shorter than the New Yorker, the body and all the major components may actually be the same, possibly only a change of a few minor suspension parts making the rear axle move forward a few inches may be the only difference!
  16. That looks really nice! It also looks a lot like the one Gabriel did back in the '80's, except Gabriel's was listed as 1/20 on the box and had a lot of metal parts.
  17. Great idea, Bill! You're also not too far away from the last DeSoto either. I'll be watching for progress.
  18. Great group of finds there! All of them are cool.
  19. Now that is a very tastefully done custom!! Gives it a little more flair without destroying the original character of the design!
  20. Looking very good Bill! I always love seeing the more obscure subjects!
  21. Steve, I guess I should digress (just a little). In my day everyone put the fattest thing they could put on a set of Keystones or Cragars and shove under the wheel well! But, at least, they still handled decently, didn't ride like a tank, and we didn't need a Jacob's Ladder to get into the darn thing!
  22. What I really call them would get me kicked off the forum!
  23. I understand that giant wheels and rubber-band tires are the "in" style, but, to me, the "in" style just makes EVERYTHING look absolutely ridiculous! As far as the front end, why do so many people think that everything needs to end up looking like, being powered by, or handled like a Chevy?!
  24. That is really cool! Can't say I've seen one of those before.
  25. Yeah, the world as we know it may be ending!
