Ok Jordan, if its not too late, add me in. I'm going with the folllowing, I believe its a 1995 Honda Civic, but someone more educated than me can clarify that. Hosted on Fotki Probably will just be OOB since it's actually a pretty nicely detailed kit by the looks of it. I'll decide more once I get it opened up and inventoried later tonight. May do a wheel/brake swap, I'll have to see what I have around. Paint to be decided later on. Thanks David

I dont care about the kit, but I'd definitely take a couple sets of the decals.

Steve, they do. But when I went to their site most of what I wanted was back ordered. Also, even with the exchange and shipping it was a lot cheaper for me to order it from the US. I have the advantage of living close enough to the border to ship US items to my sister's place and just pick it up there. The difference in price was close to $100.

I was thinking on how to fix this issue too, once mine arrives, my thought was to drill it out then take a piece of spure and heat it and pull it to get a tapered piece to insert into the drilled out hole. Sand and shape as needed. But I'd like to hear what others think might be a solution.

Nice Bruce, starting already. I've got a couple AMG's to wrap up this week, then I'm going to start on my Skyline. I AM GOING to finish this year. Good luck to everyone.

Tyler, For me, it depends. Things like an engine block I assemble it and any other component attached to it that's the same color...it will depend on the kit, the manufacturer of the real car (if you're going for realism) and convenience. I do the same with bodies and sometimes chassis or at the very least sub assemblies on the chassis. If the rear axle is in two halves, glue then paint. I pretty much remove everything from spures before painting. Sometimes parts are attached in a spot that will be hidden once built and you can leave them on to paint, but that's pretty rare I find, maybe a couple parts per kit. I remove, clean, glue then I'll attach the part to a skewer ( dollar store items) either by the pointed end or with blue tack (dollar store item) then I stick the skewer into a block of floral foam ( dollar store item). You can then paint by hand or spray. If you spray, leave the plastic covering the foam on, the paint will degrade the foam and it wont last as long. Once you have too many holes in the foam, flip it over and you have a new block...but tbh..these things last a LONG time...I've got ones that are 5yrs old and still going. The dollar store is great for picking up items that will help you with building without spending huge $$....skewers, floral foam, tooth picks, miniature clamps, blue tack, cotton swabs/wipes, containers for holding whatever acrylic craft paints ( good for interiors and other details) and probably more stuff than I can think of right now. Make sure to check out the Tips section too.

Happy New Year Joe. I would stay away from mixing acrylics and enamels, for now. Someone with more experience than me can give you a better report on that, but I find enamels for spraying has been enough of a range for me so far. I use acrylics for most detail painting (brush) and just stick to enamels for spraying. I do mix brands. Like tonight for example, I am spraying up another Tamiya AMG GT3, I'm using Scale Finishes primer and then I'll put on a coat of silver also from Scale Finishes followed by a red from Gravity Colors. I've mixed these brands before with zero issues. I'm using the silver as a barrier between the primer and red because the Scale Finishes primer is on the darker side and I dont want to darken up my red top coat. But if I'm using a darker colour, I'll definitely spray that right over the Scale Finishes primer. But to start, I would stick to one brand till you get use to your equipment and how the primers/paints/clears work together. Then start mixing and matching. You're more likely to have better results with one brand, then as you feel more confident you can experiment and see what you get. Good luck. And for when you mess up, buy something to strip the paint. I use (Castrol) Super Clean, and isopropyl alcohol (91%+). I have a bath of each in sealed containers. You can reuse as needed. You'll get lots of practice as you learn to spray. Good luck.

Generally I stick to the same brands...primer/paint/clear ....you can mix and match brands but to start out I'd stick to the same ones for each stage just for the simple fact that you'll get better results and that helps build confidence. Scale Finishes is a great brand to start with. Jameston's paints go on easy and dry quickly and he has a large range of colour choices. Also they go a long way so you definitely get your monies worth out of them. Gravity Colors are good too and Mate is expanding he range all the time. Also, if you need a colour he'll order it from his supplier and add it to his product range. I bought basically the same set up you have to start out with. First off make sure you have a moisture trap on your compressor, but if you have the one in the pic you should have it. Next, get another one that screws into the bottom of your brush, over kill maybe, but I find it moisture missed by the one out of the compressor. Next, get a better brush...the ones in the kit are OK, but you'll get much better results with a better brush. I upgraded to a Iwata Neo CN I got a Michael's with a 50% off coupon....a much better brush...but still room for improvement. Last year I jumped up to a Harder and Steinbach Evo 2n1 and am very happy with it. Others will recommend other brands, and no one will be wrong, it's what works for you. Only other tip I can give, is no matter what you brush you use, make sure you clean it properly. I made that mistake with my first one from the kit above and it was pretty much ruined cause the seals were damaged when I used too much cleaner trying to clean out what I missed. Also, a better brush will have better quality seals, another reason to upgrade. Good luck and practice, the more you use it, the better you'll get with it.

I have the McLaren, and its 1000% better than that. I just ordered this kit too, and those sink marks are unacceptable. Revell should be ashamed of their QC personal at that factory...if there are any. For a modern kit from one of the world's largest manufacturers that's horrid. I'd say hopefully you just got a bad one....but I'm guessing they're all going to be like that. Mine should be here this week after the 1st, I'll post up pics too to see if its across the board or just a isolated incident.

The cost was close to $200 US including shipping. I got them with a discount coupon the vendor had on for Black Friday so my total was $155.../8pcs so just under $20 ea shipped. IMO a very reasonable price. The great thing is they're modular so you can add and rearrange as needed. I've only just finished building them this morning and started filling them up and am amazed at how much clutter I've already eliminated from my hobby boxes/bins I've been storing stuff in. In a couple months I'll order some more pieces to fill out the bench. I already know I need some more paint units as I have lots of Tamiya and Model Master bottles yet to find a home.
-
My new workbench is mostly complete. The last of the modules are assembled and I'm in the process of filling them up...which looks like its going to take at least twice as long as it did to build the bloody things. I still have room to add some more modules down the road, but for now I have enough to keep me occupied. Hosted on Fotki

Along with my Hobby Zone modules I also picked up these this week. More paints from Gravity Colors and big thanks to Steve (Rodent) from this forum for hooking me up with a kit off my bucket list. Hosted on Fotki

My home made workbench. All the pieces where rescued then cobbled together. Its about 30" deep and 72" long. The doors got banged around a bit when I was moving it and need to be adjusted. Hosted on Fotki And where it's at now. I'm still in the process of building up the modules for placement. This is my weekend WiP. Hosted on Fotki

Ok I've redone them with Fotki....let me know if they're visible now please.

Are the pics not showing up? I can see them just fine.

Im in. I cant post an actual pic of what I have atm, I've got my workbench broken down to move it around and I have some upgrades for it which I'm hoping to have up and ready to roll by the first. But I already know what I'm doing and posted parts previously but I do have most of what I want here already. So for me, I'll be doing the following, Hosted on Fotki Tamiya Nissan Skyline Ztune as a base. I'll be adding/modifying parts on the body and chassis. I'm still debating on staying with this or going back to an R32....but it's definitely going to be a Skyline. Hosted on Fotki Hobby Design Nissan RB26 Skyline engine kit. Hosted on Fotki Hobby Design 21" Monza wheels with some Bridgestone rubber. Hosted on Fotki Hobby Design Sparco racing seats, and some Eduard Seatbelts. I've got more parts as well. I'm still undecided on colour at this point. Looking forward to starting...and finishing this time.

As part of my Christmas present to myself, I've ordered some of the Hobby Zone modular organizers. I've got a home made bench...I'll post a pic later this week, and the hobby zone piece will make it better, so by New Year's I should have my new hobby bench up and running. Mine wont look exactly like this but what I've ordered is close to what's pictured. I love seeing pics of how others have their space set up.

If the engineering is being done by RoG it'll be better than Revell USA. The McLaren/AMG GT/Porsche 918 all done by RoG are very good kits, perfect... no, but definitely good kits. The C7R done by Revell USA, again a good kit, but the wrong scale. Its the only modern GT car I can think of that's in 1/25 scale, everything else from everyone I can think of is 1/24 so RoG doing the Ford GT in 1/24 is good. If the Ford GT is coming in early 2018 than it's had to of been in development for close to a year or more, so I can understand the car being modeled as the 2016., same thing happened with the Corvette, They did the decals for the 2016 car, but the body was actually that of the 2014 car. Why the #66 car and not the Le Mans winning #68 I dont get, or why not all 4 cars on the decal sheet would be even better, but Revell did the same with the Corvette..one choice for decals, which I dont agree with. I for one welcome this kit, even if it isnt perfect. Correcting and changing kits is part of the fun sometimes. Would love to see Tamiya do this kit, then it would be closer to perfect, but I'll take a RoG Ford GT. Converting to a 2018 spec probably wont be too hard and with Ford switching to a metallic paint for the 2018 GT's, building a 2016/17 car then doing a 2018 along side will be done by more than one builder I'm sure. Zero paints has already released the new metallic paints for 2018 and Gravity Colors has them coming very soon as well. So, with RoG doing the Ford GT, Profil 24 doing the Vantage, MFH with the 488(and Ford GT), AMG GT from Tamiya, BMW M6 from Platz (NuNu) we're missing a new Audi R8 and a new Porsche 911 RSR and a NSX GT3. Been a good 18 months for GT modelers.

Round 2 December 2017 Product Spotlight
Jhedir6 replied to MrObsessive's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I couldnt agree more. Aside from the new Camaro kits, there hasnt been anythng from AMT I want. Tho I still like to pick up the reissue of the '67 Shelby when I find one. I've spent far too much money this fall on kits already....I'm hoping nothing more new comes out this year that I want. -
That thing is fantastic. Watching this one for sure. Cant wait to see more of it. Would love to have one of these too.
-
Looking good. I'll be following, got one of these in the pile to get to....someday.
