Far from it. Only AMT kits I know of with Latham blowers are the 25 T and the 65 Riviera. Not saying there arent others, but they all look about the aame. -

The 2009 issue has an additional red tinted glass shot included as well. So I'm assuming straight reissue other than box art and decals. I'm fine with that. My stash is getting thin. I just Hope Hobby Lobby will pick it up. Good hobby shops are few and far between in my neck of South Carolina. -
And you know this post is under "Car Kit News & Reviews"? You got a few reviews and a discussion of how to replicate different variations. Did you expect something else?

"Swoopy Coup" Pro-Street Style '40 Ford DeLuxe Coupe
Dave Darby replied to tim boyd's topic in Model Cars
That's a sharp one, Timothy! -
While I'm not really a modern street rods kinda guy, I am very familiar with the AMT 40 Ford coupe and I can also appreciate good tasteful craftsmanship. I like it.

2020 Round2 Car Kit News & Announcements
Dave Darby replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I wish Hobby Lobby would carry the 23 T. They appear to have shrunk their model car kit selection. Hopefully at least a few of the kits featured this time will hit their shelves. -
Very true. Our friend Tulio did a YouTube comparison between the AMT and Revell 57 Fords and pointed all of that out. Were it not for Revell being the only game in town if you want a wagon or 300 sedan, (Extra detail on chassis and engine not withstanding...) the AMT kit trounced the Revell kit.
-
If you want to build an accurate bumperless 57 Ford gasser, you need to trim the bottom of front fenders even with bottom of the grille. Revell got that area wrong.

1/25 AMT '63 Chevrolet Impala SS Hardtop
Dave Darby replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
While the molded in taillights are an inconvenience, they actually have better detail than the old clear red taillights they replaced. I did these with Baremetal Foil and Testors 1204 Dark Red back in 1990, and would be even easier today with a Molotow pen. -
Very cool. I like it.

Might have been a combination of the price point and of limited availability (ie: no retail outlets).

Golden Sahara Restored
Dave Darby replied to Richard Bartrop's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
To be fair, this is the second iteration, done by Bob Metz and Ohio's Ohio's Delphos Machine and Tool. The original iteration (below), while still a bit busy, was a good bit cleaner than this version. -
Bob, if it's OK with you, I'm going to share your build on the Scale Survivors and Box Art Replicas Facebook pages, with your name of course. it's too cool not to share.

Lindberg '34 pickup questions
Dave Darby replied to JollySipper's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Hi Timothy, There shouldn't be any issues with building your truck without fenders. In fact, the original issue AMT instruction sheet shows just such a variation on the back, using wheels and tires from the Double Dragster kit. The engine, as stated before is a 62 M code 340 HP Thunderbird 390, equipped with three Holley two barrel carbs. Because Ford FE series engines are so similar, you could also get away with calling it a 406 (also available with 3 carbs), or a 427. The Top end from the 32 Vicky/Phaeton should interchange if you want a different induction system. There are quite a few great dropped axle options out there. besides the aforementioned Revell 32 Axle, the MPC switchers based kits (AMT Boyd Coddington 32 Ford Coupe, and the Sedan Delivery kits have nice chromed dropped front axles. For a dropped beam axle, the Monogram ZZ Top 33 Ford Coupe has a nice chromed one. If you want steerable wheels and don't mind delicate construction, the Revell 29 Model A Pickup and 30 Model A Woody and Sedan kits have a nice chrome dropped beam axle. And my personal favorite is the Monogram - later Revell 1/24th scale 32 Roadster front axle. While it isn't chromed, it features a nice drop, and the most realistic early Ford hydraulic brake backing plates you will find. The only hitch with that one is you will need to make some clearance in the backsides of the wheels so they don't stick out. But that too is prototypically correct. I'm sure a missed a few, but it's a start. Hope this helps. Here is my AMT 32 Ford Coupe wearing one on the front. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/135813-amt-trophy-series-deuce-5-window-box-art-replica-updated-112019/ -
Looks like it's right outta the 50s. Nice job!
-
Very nice job. I hope you meant latest build and not final build. I'd like to see what you come up with next.
-
Except when it's built, it looks more like a Mustang than the Monogram kit does. You know how to make a small fortune manufacturing model car kits? Start off with a large fortune.
-
Hi Ace. The Revell 60 Corvette is actually a 59 that was originally issued in 1959. It was reissued again in 1961 as a competition Corvette. When I made my 61 conversion, I cut the rear clip from the 62 just behind the doors, with a horizontal cut midway up the body. Only one small seam to fill. Of course your progress is well beyond that point, with beautiful results.

Round2 doesn't sell to us. They sell to retailers. A boycut would likely just result in retailers dropping model car kits.

AMT 57 Chevy Pepper Shaker - Newest reissue
Dave Darby replied to pharoah's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I think in some of the early Round 2 runs they sort of did. But they cut the parts off of the sprues before packaging. Note the quad headlight unit left of center they missed. Later runs have everything welded back off. The bottom photos are an AMT/Ertl issue with a short shot of the rear Styline piece, and a Round 2 Pepper Shaker tree showing the opened, but trimmed gates. -
My bad, thats what I get for going from memory. The Streaker Vette first appeared in the 1974 MPC catalog.
