1960’s Traditional Blown ‘23 T Bucket UPDATE 10/31/22
Rocking Rodney Rat replied to Dennis Lacy's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Looking forward to seeing this one in color. It's going to be stunning, I'm sure.... -RRR -
I had a couple of questions about "fixing" the fit between the body and the fenders. Just to recap, the parts are the Rat Roaster body (essentially the same as the new roadster), firewall and the new roadster interior, mated to standard Revell '32 frame and fenders (from several versions of the series). Lining everything up showed a gap between the body and the fenders. This was not even across the whole arc, just in the front. The little strip of plastic inside the wheel well on the body was cut off first (if you look at a body, you'll know what I mean)..... ------------------ I sanded, scraped, filed etc. off the bead around the opening on the body and then added a strip of 0.040" Evergreen around the opening. This was carefully sanded down to close the gap. Much test fitting and massaging ensued... (sorry for the slightly out of focus pic)... ------------------- Next, I glued on a strip of Evergreen half round. It helped to preform the half round a bit by stretching it to form a bit of an arc....... --------------------------- I then sanded the half-round down to bring it in to the proper shape.... -------------------------- A schmear of putty, looks pretty good..... ----------------------- Some work with 400 to 600 grit sandpaper, gets it here. I left a little extra putty, once I hit it with primer, this will be further sanded down and a few more coats of primer and additional sanding with progressively fine 'paper will dress up the area.... Thanks for checking in..... -RRR

Nice work with this venerable oldie but goodie. Going with the chopped greenhouse? -RRR

Alright, I'm trying to get back on this one after a bit of a delay in the proceedings... I received a resin ragtop from my good friend ADL, he mastered it for Drag City Casting, a very nice piece. -------------------------- I ditched the "stock" '32 sedan flathead mounts as I realized the motor needed to move an RCH or two further forward. If I use a skinny radiator, and a fairly "flat" fan from the parts box, it all fits.... ----------------------- I started modifying the rear wheel wells to better fit the fenders, here the passenger side has been widened on the front side by about 0.040". I sanded off the bead and it has been replaced with a strip of Evergreen half round that has been sanded down. A schmear of putty around the beading will dress it up... I'm hoping to make some serious progress on this now. It's a fairly basic build so it should go pretty quickly (plans that often go awry).... More later.... -RRR

Nice start! That body is just too out-of-proportion to me to use one on a build.... -RRR -
Yes on splash aprons.... looks good.... -RRR

I don't necessarily think that a few Atlantis repops of parts packs will have that much of an impact on originals. Time will tell.... -RRR -
Nice save, I had an E36 about 25 years ago. It was in their burnt sienna color. I gave it to my 16 year old daughter and she totaled it (she wasn't hurt very bad).... -RRR

Yardbirds, Truth and Beck-Ola are essential listening. I've tried to get into Guitar Shop (listened to most of it last night) and I know many like that release, but it lacks emotion to me. To each his or her own. Check out Loud Hailer, very interesting album.... -RRR

Yes, one of best, indeed. Jeff Beck stayed out of the limelight, he was never interested in fame. He was a true innovator on the guitar, more of a guitarists' guitarist. From his early work with The Yardbirds (a band that included Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page at different times), to his solo (Truth and Beck-Ola, with Rod Stewart on vocals) and Jeff Beck Group (Rough and Ready and the Jeff Beck Group album (had an orange on the cover), to Beck Bogart and Appice and on to his prog era (Blow By Blow (sold a million copies) and Wired) Beck was always looking for new sounds. Heck, he even did an opera. One of his most recent albums, Loud Hailer, was with two young English women. Yes, you could say I'm a fan. Funnily enough, Beck would have been rather working on his hot rods than playing the guitar! RIP -Jeff Beck.... -RRR

A/C was in reference to resin bodies warping in the heat, not parts packs.... -RRR -
Hmmmmm.....thanks for the tip.... -RRR

Here's my stash of parts up on shelves in the The Rat Hole. Very few of these are complete kits, they're "boxes of parts", to me. There's some complete kits, resin bodies (they don't like tropical heat), the Revell parts packs, award trophies and whatnot under A/C on a shelf in the laundry room (not pictured). I'm running out of space, time to cull out some BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH. Also a pix of finished builds all tucked away in an IKEA bookcase (with the optional glass shelves), I'm almost out of space there as well... -RRR -
If you're interest in the olde Revell Parts Packs, check them out here: https://public.fotki.com/jferren/revell-parts-packs/ some of the few things that I do 'collect'.... RRR
