Someone begging to get banned! ? before something hits

Great, just when I swore that there aren't any modern subjects that I gotta have, this shows up. It's about as crazy detail that I care about, some other exotics are overkill. Would compliment the F1 kit that I haven't built. I see potential photo-etch grill coming along.

Mercedes Outlaws & Hot Rods

That's sweet! Can get a resin engine too. Now find a kit of that car. ? I built this last century, wasn't crazy about the curbside chassis. Yea, me too! That SEL sure needs to be slammed!- 130 replies

Today I got one of the exhaust pipes done. Last year I got some stainless steel tubing, this is *the* project that prompted me to order several sizes. Ever since I was a brat, have been fascinated about exhaust tips, this V16 was, well I better stop here. ? Also cleaned up most of the other parts for the engine, and improved the distributors by adding the caps (which need to be drilled for wires). Discovered that one part was not fully cast, the plug wire tube. The coolant pipes will be interesting to get glued on, I'm sure those need to be shortened.

That's the fun about building models, don't have to worry about cost, or being able to run. Looked at the instructions. The wheels turn, or I should say the tires turn, the hubcaps are glued to the axles, the tires are supposed to spin. The order of assembly is not what we are used to, the interior is done first, then you lay up the body, the firewall and dash are set in, then the top of the front is glued down. I can't imagine many kids did a good job on this, the glue joints would ruin the look of the body. Using Testors tube cement would melt after awhile showing the seam lines. The footwell goes into the engine bay, maybe half an inch, so stuffing a longer engine in there is possible. I need to search this forum for any builds of a modern Benz. Mercedes Benz SL63 AMG (Aoshima) has an engine. Who has done a: Fujimi Mercedes-Benz SLK230 Tamiya M-B SLK Scalemates Fujimi

Digging the Shooting Brake. I want to do a TR8, not a difficult conversion. I've been looking at the G-wagen kit, that is an interesting idea. Awesome studio pictures of that Roadster. Thanks for the contribution.- 130 replies

Started on detailing the engine. Grandt Line bolts used for the valve cover and what must be a water pump. Parts box pulley was modified, looks like another water pump. Carburetors got details cut off and glued to the plain looking carbs. Stainless steel tubing replaced the part that would have required a bunch of cleanup. The remaining parts will require more cleanup, good thing the resin is strong. Seems like each picture of the engine, there are some different parts, and colors. The museum engine displays, one block is gray and the other is aluminum. According to the book, they were improving the car every race, so I have to assume the modern pictures are with the latest modifications. I just want it to be detailed enough to fake it until I make it.

May you persevere into a worthy restoration. Which won't happen to the estate the show was filmed at, it was torn down.

Received today, before the estimated date. The reissue was 2008, 5,000 copies, is that less than a normal run? Made in Germany but the plastic still shows MFG. IN USA. Instructions parts list, which happens to be bottom side up. Check out the glass. Multiple piece body, don't know if I can handle that! I have a Revell '67 Cadillac kit, which has a really awful multiple piece body with chrome trim to sandwich, so this looks easy. The seller said no tires, but all the plastic wheel/tires are included! Look at the sink marks. ? Don't know about the door panels. ? This can be fun...... ?

Oh my, imagine the new neon green on a Gullwing. No idea about Leno's car history, need to watch his video again. Cool vintage photos. Cool rendering, has the James Dean Spyder spears backwards.- 130 replies

Since you are a Moderator, OF COURSE THIS COUNTS! Just the wheels are a clue, that engine looks beautiful, with the cast aluminum intakes that look perfectly 1950. Thanks for the contribution. I like this one, still have wheel covers in that design, from a 190 Evo build. I'm not much into Gassers, but that looks like fun! Thanks, the newer one behind is is worthy too. That was also when they were worth what, $10,000? Try that today and hire a body guard. ? LOL knew someone would have a collection of photos to dump! My personal favorites: I built the Fujimi 190 2.0E Evo, which is a simple curbside kit, that would be fun to kitbash with a DTM. I built the Heller 170 into My dad's Mercedes 170V Roadster, would be tempted to get another kit to create a hot rod. I should have had the body copied for casting, who would have liked that? I grew up with a 1961 190 sedan, I know there is a scarce kit from an obscure manufacturer, I'm sure it's more toy than model. Have thought about what a coupe would look like, and someone built one! That's awesome. ? Cool! Was hoping to get others to dare to be different. Thank you for the picture dump too! My favorites: Any 170V. The 300 SLC is different, tasteful. The 190SLs are nice. The Ute, that could be done with any sedan, must be someone who will be inspired. Thanks for the story! I know someone who hates MB, was telling me about what a maintenance nightmare they are. How many 600SEL have you seen on the road? When I was going home from Las Vegas where he lives, saw out in the middle of nowhere on the side of the road, you guessed it. Thanks for the modern versions. Is it sacrilege to modify a new car? Was expecting a Masonry version to show up. Love this paint color. That is my intent. Someone built the popular (blue one 3 posts up) into a Mad Max version. I was hoping for some old "collectible" kits to be pulled out of a stash. This is a serious idea of mine, double blasphemy of modifying a famous prototype that was never sold to the public, with the legendary Le Mans winner. Funny how just a paint job triggers aficionados. ? To leave it in the patina state is double jeopardy, but that's what is cool about Leno. I have another project idea, my dad had a friend who had a Gullwing under a tarp in the back yard, which is a future diorama idea. Thank you everyone for contributing! ?- 130 replies

Drilled more holes. ? I didn't like the pedal assembly, would have taken as much time to clean up as fabricating a better unit. Started with a regular shirt pin, cut to length, then the head got a flattened side which indicates down. .20" styrene for the arms, that was drilled. Each of the 3 cutaway drawings showed only one or two pedals. Used the Model Car Garage photo-etch pedals, which are sort of close, but look good enough. Good illustration showing how important test fitting is. The instructions are vague, not location marks showing where this goes, that's why I used Tacky glue for temporary gluing. One photo-etch washer is added to the shifter. FPPMODELOS usually has photo-etch with his models. The pedals and washer, and what I made earlier would have been nice to have. The tiny windscreen frame would probably be another candidate, think I will be making that out of aluminum too. P.S.: I had forgotten that I built another resin model, this 1/72 scale Auto Union Munga.

Hey.... well one of these decades....... Iceman Collectibles has several V8s, such as a Coyote (all I can figure, it's a Ford). Just found these on feeBay: 1/24 Resin Engine Mercedes M104 for W124 W129 W140 from Ukraine. Aoshima 1/24 GTR R35 Engine Kit Resin MADE TO ORDER from New York. 1/24 Toyota 2JZ Engine Kit Resin Tamiya MADE TO ORDER Supra from NY. 1/24 Resin Engine Mazda 13b from Ukraine. 1/25-1/24 12b Turbo Kit Engine Kit Resin MADE TO ORDER from NY. 1/24 SR20DET Engine (Sloped Top, Low Mount Plenum) from Australia. Have mercy! ? Just step up and do it! ? Long time ago I saw an MG MGB with flares, maybe side pipes, so that's another possibility. The Tiger is another possible victim.

Topic for inspiration, on how far can one go with sacrilegious blasphemy in ruining a perfectly good Mercedes Benz. AMG started the idea of hot rodding them, and now they are a factory subsidiary, so they shouldn't count. Maybach could be included, the Excelero was a one off hot rod. B+B was a customizer. I don't think gold wrapped Benzes should count, they are a dime a dozen. ? If there is a cult name for these cars, let me know. Starting off with a rendering of a 300 SL:

You were very fortunate to attend one of those races, I understand the track will become history. ? I attended the Ferrari year, early 1990s, also did Pebble Beach, had a headache from sensory overload both days. I was also lucky to have ridden shotgun in a Miata on the track, the Corkscrew is a trip, look for the big oak and aim for it. Went overboard with adding to the hood "jambs". The 3 cutaway illustrations show the drilled (what is this called besides jamb?) parts, used aluminum newspaper printing plate. Thinned the hood edges some more. Added some shims to the fuel tank, so it will fit better without slop, the filler cap needs to be centered in the hole; also added a tiny piece to the cap. The louvers really need to be screwed with, they look so primitive! ?
