I usually use automotive thinner, just thought I would try Testors airbrush thinner today and regretted it. Why does it make such a difference? It caused the high points to show up.

Drove myself nuts with rivet decals. ? For the mechanical parts, am going to use various Alclad paints. Thought Model Master gloss black would work with Testors thinner, NOT! ?

Nice job on both of those CRXs. I see you detailed the light lenses, the real cars have the rubber seals, so that touch really helps with realism.

"correct" scale for new releases
89AKurt replied to Motor City's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I was wondering about that! I'm an architectural designer (affordable architect), am used to the architect scale, but also use the engineer scale for Site Plans. What you said makes total sense. I also use a metric scale when I scratch build, much easier to read and calculate divisions. I've been seeing aftermarket engines advertised as 1/24-1/25 scale. In some cases you can get away with it. But I learned the hard way that stuffing a 1/24 427c.i. into a 1/25 Corvette is near impossible. I've built military subjects, so mixing 1/72, 1/48 and 1/35 on one shelf looks silly, but it is like books. As Steve said, the Lindberg 1/20 is not popular, too bad the GMC Cyclone isn't 1/24(5), that would have been a popular kitbash. -

Added some more stuff to the cockpit around the dash area. Started to get OCD about the delicate parts on top of the engine, the coolant piping is going to be a PITA. The spark plug loom is another detail that I need to tackle. All that can be done after painting, so that's what I did today. Made a rotisserie out of scrap hardwood. First coat is Tamiya primer. This is a fun stage, all the scratch built parts blend in, like they were part of the kit.

Project is parked, this wasn't even on my 2020 Resolutions list, so getting the Auto Union done, hopefully before the end of this year. Not that I'm totally ignoring it! Was looking through some books, found this in World Cars (an annual issue, have 3 years), the #1 prototype, good shot of the roll cage under the body and antenna: This looks like the prototype for what we know as the LM002 (Le Moo Two), has the same tires but different wheels. Note the taillights and front turn signals that the Countach has. I'm digging the headlights, which reminded me that the Toyota Celica has similar size rectangle headlights, so I dug them out and contemplated..... the kit's headlights are lousy and would need improvement anyway.

Mercedes Outlaws & Hot Rods
89AKurt replied to 89AKurt's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Some cars need to remain unseen, at least more than once. ? Love the military style of that. ⬆️ I looked through a book Extraordinary Automobiles published 1983, took some shots which aren't the best resolution, but gives a great idea what was cool back then. Dang! You think? ? I would consider adding spacers to make it wider, depending on the chassis of another kit. Anyone who has done a DTM car have any suggestions?

There you go, the first AMG. Funny how it wasn't lowered at all. That's different. ? Fastest brick perhaps. That's wild! I have a hat like that. ? meh- 130 replies

This should give me the excuse to build the Tamiya Subaru Impreza WRC ('98 Monte-Carlo). I've done a factory body on a race car chassis before, but it's hardly a sleeper. I didn't really care to do the race decals anyway, and could do radar absorbing flat black paint, so this is my idea. A rule should be minimum two people, which is perfect for a rally car anyway. Would have to ditch the killer light pod though, not street legal. ?

The rally versions get my stamp of approval. I worked on a rally in Arizona 2001, watched this 911 do well in the snow (some of the drivers from California couldn't drive in snow). R1Porsche by Kurt Womack, on Flickr -
