Just answering the dumb question, the title didn't mean anything. I have not perfected mind reading yet. ? I wish people would be specific when they start a topic. I'm guessing everyone here builds only V8 street rods. /end rant/

My two cents, late to the party..... I use craft acrylic paint, with tile grout mixed in, to simulate rubber and vinyl. For getting the strands, I would try a stiffer brush, when the paint is about half set up. That way you will conform to the body shape, instead of sticking on panels with seams showing.

Mercedes 450 rally kit.. Worth buying?
89AKurt replied to Scott8950's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If it's cheap, why not? That era of Monogram foreign cars are basic, curbside, plastic axles, no engine, so parts are lame such as the air dam. Would be a fun kit bash. I was thinking of a Triumph TR8, kit bash with a Mustang or something. That has the euro headlights, which is nice. -

Sure would help if you were specific. Huge difference between a Porsche 959, and a Honda, I had to research the 959 because the kit does not have the complete plumbing. Not only that, but guys do installations differently for the same engine, if you are doing a V8, one or two turbos? Want an intercooler included? Just to give an example, Calloway did this custom setup for Bill Ruger's Stutz, will it work for your application?

Huh. ? Thanks to this forum, got a lead to nice diamond plate, so got the toolbox and steps done. First step was using photos I took with the tape measure in the picture, taken when I knew the truck was sold, drew to scale. Taped down the diamond plate on the drafting board, marked then cut out the parts. Got this far by 2:00AM. For the lid, scribed first, then scraped down the edge, final scribe for the bend lines, used the liquid cement to soften the plastic to help bend, and of course weld the corners. This morning cast a tailgate, then started to modify it. Made the steps using paper clips, which are nice a shiny, unlike many. Scribed and cut in the latches. For the box, only the exposed sides are diamond plate, why waste it when not seen? Steps were simply drilled into the floor pan, which will make them easy to adjust for final assembly. Revised the hinge pin locations a little, used the same paper clip. I'm going to put a magnet into the bed stake pocket, so embedded a steel plate. Then I mixed some resin and put on glass, then squished down the tailgate, so the back will be completely flat for when I make a new mold. The whole unit will also be thinner, the kit is too thick. Masked the paper clip, sprayed Alclad 'chrome' on the steps, since they were steel. The box will be 'polished aluminum', after I make a mold of it too.

1950 Chevy 3100 engine change
89AKurt replied to Wm David Green's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
First off, strongly suggest looking at the 67-72 Chevy trucks forum, Sub-Forums : The 1947 - 1959 Chevrolet & GMC Pickups Message Board. I owned a 1948 last century. It's not just a simple swap to stuff a V8 between the narrow frame rails. Most people put a Mustang II clip front suspension in, which gives the width, and gets rid of the buckboard straight axle. But I checked out a beater for sale in town, that had a 350 crate motor squeezed in, about1/4" between the manifold and steering box. I would consider a modern straight 6, with turbo, perhaps a rice burner such as a Skyline, which there are numerous aftermarket "kits" and parts available. My 1948 Canopy Express will have the Stovebolt, with two carbs and twice pipes, Old School. -
?? Running the '48 Canopy Express along with this project, since similar processes are involved. I'm going to work on this copy of the tailgate, namely the area that is a failure anyway, that should be sloped inward anyway. The other thing is to work on the plane the letters are in, needs to be cut down about .5mm. I'm also trying to make a bunch of door handles that will be sent out for chrome plating.

Baby step, made my first (successful second time) copy of the seat. Running the build along with the '69 pickup.

I'll have to look at the Milliput that I got, must be different than yours because it didn't get really hard. I'll have to look for that Tamiya polish! Looking good Dann the man!

Now, THIS is a Car!!!!!
89AKurt replied to stavanzer's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
OMG.... ? some people have more money than sense. I have a 6 wheel car in mind, could start with a Tyrell P 34 1/20 scale, mix with 1/24 rear wheels and 1/43 front wheels, and do the Panther 6. That I could get into! -

I missed this, was searching for the Lamborghini Silhouette and see that you built it, and now recall the build topic. Very nice selection of well done models!

Mercedes Fast Transporter
89AKurt replied to Miroslav Beran's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
I love this vehicle, and so does Jay Leno. ? Looks good, and race car to match. What is brand of resin kit? -
Thank you. I was having that exact thought too, and if that's what it takes, everyone in the world can thank me. Welcome. Oh yea, what a shame, hope nobody enters the same contests as me. ? Since I'm making resin copies of some of the parts, which I plan to sell, that will give others a better chance. But as Dennis said, that's when Mobius (or Meng) will release a real nice model.

Sorry, neglected checking in. Yea, I think there is a flub in the engineering of final assembly, at the engine end of body to chassis, I had trouble too. I was not happy with the wheel well gap over the back wheels. Love the paint color! So close.......

Had to get the Reji resin wheels and Michelin gravel tires, and the guillotine windows. Now I have everything available at this time.

Spot Model is a money magnet, and I gladly succumb. Got the last parts for the Audi Quattro, can't imagine anything else that will come out (got the engine last time). BMW engine, cool winter studded rally tires, and the drill set seemed like a deal considering I get individual bits at Hobby Bench in Phoenix.
