  1. Good idea to resume a Tamiya kit. I built the evil twin Dodge Stealth that AMT produced, this was the original car before Lee Iacocca did the badge engineering, and this is still a better looking car. I've gone for years without building, so glad you are back at it!
  2. Thank you my friend! I'm a happy camper. Thank you! Thank you! We need to get that Audi Quattro built for next year. ?
  3. Funny, I did not expect to hijack a thread so easily! ? Sorry about that, but since it's been a popular subject, another picture, my dad was talking to the crew: Saw this model at the last Modelzona contest:
  4. When that Firebird was new, had a fold-out advertisement on the wall for awhile. It was a nice looking car compared to everything else. That a flat finish paint? Looks good!
  5. There isn't an Empty Air award. ?
  6. Very nicely done, you have the shiny paint down pat. Every time I see a Cameo, kick myself for not buying a nice original years ago.
  7. I think you need to build more models. ? Didn't know so many Russian vehicle kits existed, nice to see them and thanks for sharing. I have that Audi Quattro kit, recently ordered the engine and other detail parts. The unfinished Mercedes police car, what kit is that? The 4WD van is cool. Just got the Porsche race car kit. I've built a few '50 Ford pickups. Built the Vehicross for a diorama. And have the Lamborghini in the stash. All very clean and well done models. ?
  8. Thank you. So many here that things tend to get overlooked. Thank you! The past couple weeks, I joined Facebook groups themed for American Southwest, Grand Canyon N. P., and Zion N.P., and have been sharing vintage family photos. My dad took many pictures of their adventures, with the car in the shots. Most of the time, comments are about the Beetle or whatever car, the scene is secondary. ? For example, tunnel collapse in the Zion tunnel, their first Beetle, which I hope to also build. Thanks, that was a fun slap together.
  9. Nice you could build that Karman Ghia for someone, that's more satisfying than getting an award that has to collect dust.
  10. Every engine was ? for me. Nice work, should be proud of these.
  11. Well done! Love the garage photo booth too.
  12. Nice variety, subjects you don't see much at all.
  13. You could have your own channel: Extreme Box Stock. It's the only way I get anything done. ? Very nice work, and like how the pictures are done.
  14. Wicked cool builds! Love the detail on the Ferrari. So what that you only got 3 done, it's a tradeoff, I have two of those in my stash that may never get built.

    2019

Love your subjects, I have several of those kits in the stash. So having at least 5 going at a time gets more completed? ? Very well done, nice to see you weathered the 330P4.
  16. Not just slapped together, but really well done. I have the Testarossa and Huracan kits, so you are two up on me.
  17. They are all sweet! Noticed the opened gas filler door, but my fav is third down.
  18. 1. 1960 VW Beetle for GSL Common Kit 2. Ferrari 275P/360 Modena MONGREL 3. Porsche 904 + Indy = PORNDY 4. Dodge Stealth Indy Official Beater 5. Porsche 959 Paris-Dakar 6. Panzerkampfwagen 1a 7. Aerovette 8. Vintage soda cooler (Does this count? ?) 9. Renault 5 Turbo rally winner Some more awards: Started the Ferrari 275 NART but didn't want to rush it, to finish this year. Have the Bring Out Your Dead zombie '48 Chevrolet Canopy Express that lurks under the bench. Have reduced the WIPs this year, but more than made up for it buying more kits. So my title is a white lie. ?
  19. Last build for 2019! The WIP is only one page, because I blew this out as Box Stock. There was only one sprue of parts, and the window sprue (of course), tires were very rubber-like slicks. If one wanted to really be accurate, there would be a ton of scratch-building required. I think it's funny the doors open, so you can see the super simplified interior, with no pedals, handbrake (that's like the most important part for a rally car, ask Ken Block), rally equipment, seatbelts, even the gauges were just simple raised rings (aftermarket decals used). There is an engine with no distributer, the suspension has no springs for detail. Fit is better than average, with big round pins and squared holes that work better than AMT snap-tight design. Decals are very well printed, that Solvaset does not work on. The hatch stays open with no prop rod, couldn't get more perfect. A fun quick and dirty kit to throw together.
  20. Some people just can't wait. ?? One thing that the instructions don't cover, is the chrome strip in the windshield molding. Noticed one car that was for sale, was all black, not the rally action pictures. Used Scotch tape and a drafting circle template, to make the wiper track masks. Drew the wiper arms, pivioted to determine the sweep area. Final assembly! The fit is better than average on this kit, the snap in pins for the windows worked perfect. Took some pictures before I weathered. Used AAA Insurance sticker for the door mirrors. Lights were painted with Testors acrylic. Restrained myself from going overboard.? Airbrushed Testors flat clear with a tiny bit of flat black, white, and Africa Korps color, adding more for each coat. Final step was painting the edge of the wiper tracks with gloss clear and colors. I kept the right door mirror white, it's supposed to be black, but instructions call out as white, so that will comply with Box Stock rules. ? The headlights are not glued in, when the body snapped into the chassis, the pins pushed them out. Sink mark on the light is annoying, but a fix would be just as obvious, would love to make Cibie covers. Started December 25, after 23.75 hours can call it DONE! For such a simple kit, it's not too shabby. One could assemble with no glue. I learned a trick for decals. I'm still terrible with brush painting details. ? I have the Audi Quattro kit, with detail parts coming, that will take forever compared to this, but I wanted to practice with painting yellow.
  21. Today is the last stage (pun intended ?). Found another video, just to see how much I should weather it, narrated in French. So many more details that could be done, extra lights, hood pins, roof antenna that's about a meter long, racing seats, small window in the door, rally plaque on the hatch, list is very long. Also found that Tamiya makes this race car, I would definitely check it out. For this project, I needed to know what color the gas cap is (semi gloss black), noticed a chrome strip in the windshield rubber, and the Cibie lights are yellow. Looking at the other cars, will do grey grime, no mud.
  22. I've never seen an Academy, but based on the Ferrari 250LM, I wouldn't. I've also built the Tamiya in 3 versions, just search and see that others have too, think that's all I can add.
  23. Uh, if you really REALLY love inaccurate and simplified kits that require lots of ...... oh wait...... ? Applied the decals! I found out they are the achilles heel of this kit, they are printed perfectly, but they are immune to Solvaset, and do not conform to corners and curves. Tried diluted Elmers glue, no help. Since it's Winter, have the wood stove running, so thought of taking a water soaked paper towel, holding it on the stove and let it sizzle for a few seconds, then pressed down on the offending section. I knew it would be a risk with the paint, but it wasn't effected. So I basically ironed on the decals. The instructions have something to be desired. First off, the copy of a copy of a copy is just cheap. The decal placement page is a joke for colors, they have all the colors depicted with various grey scale, which is lost in translation. The other thing I noticed, the roof decals, not proportional in size. I have some silvering too, not much adhesive, but not going to OCD stress about it. Looking at that back window blemish is driving me nuts. Added the Heller decal just because it was on the sheet. ? The headlights are the hated flat back, square hole with round pin on the lens. But still wanted to apply Bare-Metal Foil to all the lights. ? Next is detail paint, touch up many places, then the fun part! ?
