Officially starting this project today (Jan. 14). Been planning to build this anyway, but the GSL Common Kit is Tamiya's excellent kit of the 1966 Beetle, so that has lit the fire under me. Other than the typical masking to airbrush several colors challenge, the ski rack and back-dating some details is going to be fun. I'm also going to weather it, with the cool ice. Another first for me, will be using Splash paint. I got the Best Model Car Parts 1957 Beetle conversion last year, but the rules state no resin bodies, so that will be for their first Bug. But I can use the engine lid and wheels. Early VW wheels have no slots, the Hasegawa Bus wheels are also slotted, but I can use the hubcaps and skinny tires. There is another detail that has haunted me, when I get the package, will comment then. An interesting detail is the mirror location, the primary picture is on the dash, but other pictures are the normal location. Only one exterior mirror, which will be the right one located on the left side. The front turn signals are too big, considering making out of clear sprue. The taillights need to be smaller, might make out of red sprue. It looks like the steering wheel needs to be modified to not be deep dish. I just learned the windows were increased in size after 1960, but that will guarantee doom, just opening the vent window should be enough to distract the rivet counters. Now I'm committed (for a mental institution?). Primary reference picture.

Help: need vintage Utah license plate

I will confirm that! I had just emailed him about getting wheels and engine lid, he is going to do it for me. I got his '57 Beetle conversion kit last year, but didn't wish to rob the parts, since I will be doing my parents first Beetle (in picture). -

Help: need vintage Utah license plate

I'm going to build my parent's second Beetle. I'm 95% confident that's a 1960 model, when they still lived at Zion N. P. (dad was a Park Ranger stationed at the East Gate). That was taken in Glen Canyon before it got flooded by the dam, Gunsight Butte is a landmark standing above the lake. Someone here helped me with their first Bug plate. -

Another new product, if one does not want the photo-etch details, but just the correct evil tobacco decals, this HB International logo will be coming out.

Are things THIS serious with this kit?!

Dang, that is insane! I had another version of the Chevy van last century, that I whacked apart to create something else. Is this more special because of the top and interior? I've noticed that some asking prices for kits are ridiculous. For example the Gunze Sangyo VW Beetle seems to be gold-plated. What one pays is another story. -

Ok, I've also read about the door area, but didn't know about the haunch. Bookmarking this thread! You considering using the Forged carbon-fiber decals available through Splash paints? -
Thanks. Model railroad product brand is MV Products, there is a large choice of various sizes and colors. I'm posting this link just for reference, not suggesting as a source, but a decent *real* hobby shop should carry them. https://www.hobbylinc.com/m-v-products-model-trains

Depends what your level of crafting things is. Just because I have wood working tools, I would fabricate Corian patterns and vacuum-form them. I see other builders use Milliput and other putty products. Love the color on that car! -

Regarding the coveted license from Ferrari, I've been wondering. When I first saw this model on one of the Japan hobby shop sites a few years ago, I thought it would be a cute addition to my collection. It sold out right away, and never got restocked. Then I saw at least one eVilbay seller with a ridiculous asking price (picture). So between Fujimi, Fiat and Abarth, I wonder if it was a very short production run? Just because of this observation, against better judgment, saw one for much less, but still a bit steep, so got that out of my system. -

I built that last century! The headlights bugged me too. I used MV lens for starters. Then I vacuum-formed new covers, because the kit parts are terrible.

I just looked at the MFH website, that was linked from Spot Model. I saw somewhere that AirTrax made a 330GTC, another favorite classic road car. When I was a teenager, got a ride in one. Is this license thing a ruse, to jack up the price of Ferrari models (and everything else with the name on it)? Got this email from Spot Model: Licenses In the scale modeling scene there are some important issues that are beyond our workbenches. One of these important issues are the "licenses" granted by actual car and motorcycle manufacturers to the manufacturers of our beloved models, so they can reproduce and market their models. It often happens that the management and terms of such licenses delay the marketing of a product, such as the VW and Ford models by Belkits, and that on some occasions the arrival of the kits has been delayed for almost a year since its announcement as a novelty. It also happens that these licenses "expire" over time, as in the case of the Ferrari license that has been granted to Model Factory Hiro, and that at the beginning of this year has not been renewed. We already discussed this issue in one of our past newsletters, but we want to insist because... what does it actually mean? Well MFH, at least for now, discontinues eeeeeevery single one of their Ferrari kits. Buaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhh!!! :'-( But do NOT despair, there are still a few days left before the end of the license, so some models are still available: the list is published at MFH website here and here. If you are interested in buying any of them please contact SpotModel as soon as possible. They are flying!! At SpotModel we don't want you to miss your Ferrari!! -

Nothing like making a good first impression! I've never heard of, or seen such a thing, that's very cool. Very well done. You have any car subjects in mind? I've been seeing more Steampunk themed show cars lately, should be right up your alley. -

I'm getting back to a hobby that I've done forever, but like model building, have gone through phases of not doing anything. It's probably the main reason I haven't died from a heart attack. Back in the day, I could do 20 miles without a problem, and could leap across rocks in a single bound. A few times had done 50 miles, trail riding, not road bike on a paved road. Favorite area is Moab, Utah, Slickrock Trail is mountain bike bucket list worthy. One time I took the Incline up, and then rode up to see the Pikes Peak Hillclimb at Glen Cove, didn't have to get a ticket. So despite not riding for awhile, yesterday was able to not die doing 12 miles, got a flat tire at 8 miles, so it was a death march back to the pickup. Need to make up for sitting while working on models.

I built that, last century! It is a nice kit.
