  1. A road less travelled between 89 and I-15, not Cedar Breaks but north, forget which one now but it was several years ago. It was one of those U-turn moments, couldn't believe it.
  2. Project for the The 2022 Cannonball Run Year of Birth Build Thread community build. The Revell Mercedes Benz 190 SL kit was originally released in 1960, re-popped 2008. They produced the 190 SL from 1955 - 1963, can't tell any differences during that term. The kit has much to be desired, the Revell engineers had the airplane mentality with the multiple piece body, fixed hubcaps with the tires turning, and procedure of assembly. The engine has no fan belt with generator, carb (just air cleaner and pipe), manifold or even an exhaust, and the valve cover is not close. I will assemble the body as a unit, and the interior too. I'm going the resto-rod route, with a 3D printed Honda S2000 engine, which will require modifying the subframe. Have a set of modern wheel/tires to use. I have no plans beyond that, for how many mods, paint color, etc. What came in the box: Today I cleaned the parts from minimal flash, ejection pin marks, and mold lines, and used just enough superglue to assemble. Did not remove the date, I know most "pro" modelers always do that. The Honda engine is almost the same length, but is taller. The real car has drum brakes, the kit hubs are super simple, so I will upgrade with the photo-etch disks, which was one of the first photo-etch on the market, can't just throw it away. ? Will need to fabricate calipers. The interior parts, the floor in front of the seat mounts, and the rear is not glued on, think I will have to glue the door panels on the pan, instructions show to glue on the body. At least that's my plan. Think I will have to use Testors glue for assembling the body. I will only use enough at the pin locations, so it can be adjusted when all of them are put into the box jig, which I will use clay to do something smart (I hope this works). ? When that cures, then I will use fresh superglue (bottle I have opened got thick) and baking soda to really make it rigid. Using lots of putty is expected. I've never built a model like this from that era, and can only imagine a kid getting frustrated, good job Revell.
  3. Could very well be, the fat radiator star and mirror will be removed. It's also not resin, but printed whatever plastic they use.
  4. Nice thing about this thread, anyone can join in! In a construction drought, but have way too many ideas.
  5. Found out about Texas 3D Customs on this forum, highly recommended. Charles offers special orders, so I asked for a Mercedes 180, showed him a source of a file I had bookmarked, he responded that it would not work because it was for video games, but he took the time to find another source of the same thing, so it worked out. Got the seats and engine from his website. I haven't been been at the bench for a couple of months now, but still buying models. ?
  6. Totally different ball game for me this year. I haven't done any model building for 2 months now. But good news for me, found Texas 3D Customs does requests, and he created the body of the 1958 Mercedes Benz 180, which is very close to the '61 190. Just need to create an interior and a bunch of other things, which will take more time than I have for this contest. So I am still going to do the 190SL, the Honda S2000 engine will be a nice upgrade. Does anyone to custom photo-etch? The radiator star is a must do, and the 190 badge. Think I have photo-etch mesh that would improve the grill. Just for fun..... I might start on the 190SL this weekend, need to make a wood box jig for gluing the body together. Some parts will be saved for the sedan, such as the steering wheel. Side note, found pictures I took several years ago in Utah, of a sad sight.
  7. Don't count on spillchick.
  8. I lucked out, someone in the auto club recently asked if I wanted to buy kits he had, one was the LP 500S. I looked at the instructions, the suspension is moveable, so I'm curious how one assembles the hubs without having noticeable seams. Will be checking in when I can.
  9. Many of us have gone through spells, sounds like this forum inspired you to go for it. Welcome Brandon!
  10. Oh man, sorry I missed this so long ago. It's still sitting in the stash, on top of the pile, but I've been in a building drought for awhile. The detail of the tread looks realistic. But as recent comments are indicating, no longer available? That's why I buy stuff when I see it, and not think about, learned that lesson awhile ago.
  11. because Earthship builders
  12. It's 8:10 PM, just saw the postal truck drive by for the third time. Must be a new person. No wonder postage keeps going up.
  13. containing banned substances
  14. Suggestion: The Mercedes Benz 190 2.5 Evolution 2 engine. There are still plenty of the Fujimi curbside kits, it's a shame there isn't an engine. I'm also being selfish, have an older 190SL and sedan that I want to do.
  15. Very nice workmanship!
  16. Think your OCD is special? Check this garage out, in Switzerland.
  17. I have no reason to be whining about a little smoke. Heard a radio news report about Las Vegas, New Mexico getting torched.
  18. Every news report on the radio, they say it's under investigation. There was no storm the day it started, so some bonehead is responsible. I agree with you, but can think of other methods of punishment that would violate forum rules. ? During the same news breaks, fire restrictions allow fires for cooking, long as I attend it, which I keep the hose ready to go next to the grill. Next stage is more restrictive.
  19. View from my shop, smoke has been bad. Our forest fire is over 9,000 acres, but the one in Flagstaff is over 19,000 acres. We are not expecting rain, that usually starts around July 4th. I should clear cut my property, but the neighbor doesn't give a rats, so it would be a waste of time. Fire restrictions in place, so no more cookouts on the grill. Irked and irritated.
  20. Looks really good from here, other than the hood scoops, pictures usually reveal every flaw I miss. ? Nice metallic green paint job. I recently had a conversation on Fakebook about these cars, didn't know how valuable they are.
