  1. Good to know, I used for the first time on porcelain, look forward to using them. I enjoyed seeing the auctions years ago. Yea, half a million nowadays. Got these at Harbor Freight, Made In China were cheaper than any of the Dremel bits. Well.... I have a Lusso kit, tough to chose. Thinned the hood most of the way. The body is mostly thinned too. Glued the engine and transaxle with superglue, all to be painted aluminum. Temporary assembly of chassis with Tacky Glue, some parts friction fit. I should look up the dimensions of the wheelbase of both cars, looks the same! Calipers show the inside of the body, is the same as the chassis minus the outer area. Of course need to see how the wheels look. Hope it will be a little lower.
  2. Today I invested in new Dremel bits. Really helps to have new sharp tools, looked for something that won't clog up. I have tile counter that really needs to be repaired, but I would rather do this ? First to try is the 9903, it really hogs out the resin, large debris that's not dust, but have to be careful because it can catch and dig in and then curse words. First is to open the wheel wells. I will save the windows for last to reduce screwing up the greenhouse. Since the headlights will have correct reflectors, opened one up so far. The hood gaps are painted with flat black acrylic. I used masking tape to transfer the hood lines to the underside. Routed the groove, using the light to show the black line. Used the Tamiya scriber to deepen the panel lines. Then I snapped the hood out. Holy cow is that thick! Won't be hard to thin down with the new bits, but I might want to keep the vacuum close by. Can hardly wait to stick the 575 chassis together!
  3. Kitbashing the Airtrax Ferrari 330 GTC resin kit with the Revell 575 M Superamerica. The reason I have always wanted the 330 GTC, when I was a kid, my dad knew someone who had one (and an Aston Martin, and a BMW Bavaria, and a Mercedes 300 SC), and after incessant begging he took me for a ride. Even though it needed a tuneup, it sure made an impression on me. Because of this forum, I found the source, so I sprung for it. Found the pictures online, to print out for the box art. The body appears to be accurate, the photo-etch is really nice even though there is no "Ferrari" or Prancing Horse emblems (have that covered). You need to provide tires, and a chassis, I guess the 250 SWB or 275 GTB/S, or even the Daytona, would be the most accurate, but I wanted something different. Found the Superamerica at a swap meet in town (not a model swap meet) for $10. The wheelbase is almost the same, track width might be a challenge, but that's what flares are for. Doing this for a Fakebook community build, maybe I will nickname it Mama Mia! ?? Owners manual, will photo-reduce for a final detail. A look at the parts. No instructions. Need to make the steering wheel rim, might try using wood like what Replicas & Miniatures of MD has done. I have rally lights left over from my Cannonball WRC Subaru (not shown). Custom box: Community build started 1/01/22, proof that I didn't get a head start. ? One wheel is terrible, but since I didn't plan to use them, not a big deal.
  4. The first engine is his. Took a look at his current offerings: Nissan RB26 Stock or Turbo Engine - M 1/24 1/25 $26 with optional turbo.
  5. Dumb question, does this not count when the wheels and tires are not in the wheel wells? I'm not committed to using these wheels. BTW, that's a multi piece body, so that was a feat in itself. ?
  6. Admire your drive to build that crazy machine! Love it. ❤️
  7. I already have a long dead WIP with an Allison. ? That Ferrari build video digest is intense! I just checked eBay: Honda F20 Inline 4 Engine 1/24 1/25 is sort of rough, but it's certainly workable, $26. 1/24 Toyota-Lexus 1JZ Non-VVTI Turbo 3D engine kit-US SELLER $35, might be too long. 1/24 Nissan SR20 S14-S15 Black Top Engine Kit 3D Print-US SELLER! $35, looks doable. The only issue, keeping the chassis and crude suspension. Or creating a new suspension, which would doom the project.
  8. Welcome to the forum, what took you so long? ? Cool picture, and look forward to seeing what you have done.
  9. vibrational rumblings emanated
  10. What did I get myself into? ? Now I see why I've never seen this kit built. Revell engineer(s) had to only know how to do airplanes, it's the classic build the interior and paint it first, then glue the body halves together. The fit has something to be desired. I tried to put just enough superglue on the edges away from the pins, still have tape to hold together enough for a visualization. Can't image kids building this half decent. Today at the model club meeting, someone gave me the Fujimi Linea Sport wheels, with Advan 195/60 HR14 & 225/60 HR14 tires, but are 1/24. I put out a feeler in the Trade section for a modern Mercedes with an engine, of course all are 1/24. So I'm still in limbo how to proceed.
  11. That was a paradigm shift coming from military models! Looks great from here. I have that kit plus detail parts, maybe next century I'll get it done.
  12. Reminds me, write a proper Will! Advanced Directive is another thing to write out, include having a respirator hooked up to the glue and paint thinner. ? I'm in a model club, and we have touched on the subject when someone contacted the Chairman about his deceased dad's kit collection, I got some old kits for a steal, and the Chair got a collection to sell through their online store. Join or start a model club, helps to have local people in the loop. A model builder recently passed, some of the members helped out and are finishing up WIP too. I've thought about having some of my finished models that won awards at GSL shows go to their museum in Salt Lake City. My kids might want some of my models, but not the kits. One of the model club members wants a model. So it would be a good idea to have a list. Might also be a good idea to leave a note, saying "some of the kit's have a $100 bill in the box."
  13. Thanks, didn't want to hijack your topic, but since the subject is of interest, here goes. Gentleman lived back East, worked for IBM, traveled around the world. He saw an ad in the local newspaper, the description was extremely vague, but he had to check it out. He immediately knew it was an early Ferrari, only after pulling it home did he discover it is the first car, serial number is very short. He had to track down the engine, which was in South America if I recall (he told me the story last century). There had been a heated debate among Ferrari experts, so he took it to a Palm Springs car show and they poured over the car, and determined yes it is the first car. picture on Flickr Old Cars: First Ferrari Race Car Headed to Palm Springs Concours He raced it on tracks back east. It is unrestored, the paint is cracked, doesn't look sexy as the over-restored cars that everyone thought were the very first car. I begged for a ride, took it around the block. That was before my phase of producing videos, sure would have liked to document the story. My pictures are from when he chaired the Prescott Antique Auto Club car show.
  14. That's a tough kit to work with. You did a fine job restoring it.
  15. Looks really good to me! I have yet to build a perfect model.
  16. You did a great job on it! Good to know about the rear wheels wells. I have this in the stash, along with the USCP engine and door panels. Someday.......
  17. I remember them! Not the same tires. I'm shutting down for tonight, will try to get the size to you later.
