Anyone else experiencing a delay when clicking on a post etc?
waynehulsey replied to Monty's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Most of the time, it varies from 10 or 15 seconds to approaching a minute some time. -
At least they didn't warn you that if another violation charge came from you, you could be liable for harassment.

Just back from hobby shop. Picked up a pack of scapel blades, small bottle of super thin CA and a pack of Plastruct 1.5mm hex rod (one of the great modeling inventions) to make sure I had the full set of them. Had intended to get a model, but even with a few new (mainly reissues) ones nothing that rang my chimes. When you already have 2 or 3 of something in some cases in 40 year old packaging, hard to pull a couple of 20's out of pocket for another one to go on the shelf.

That was before things got as crazy as they are now. I say that not really being into guns myself; but the attitudes just seemed more sane then. I remember seeing a few build up that looked pretty good.

What did you see on the road today?
waynehulsey replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
At the grocery store, so didn't have my camera with e. 70 Challenger, light blue, full hub caps, white vinyl roof, white interior and would say from the little old lady that got out of it: original owner. -
AMT Ferrari 250 GT SWB - Updated 09-09
waynehulsey replied to Bernard Kron's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Looks like you're off to a good start. Have one of those I picked up a few years ago. Had heard all the horror stories about it; but after looking it over and checking it against photos decided "its workable". Your tweak on the grille area really helped it. -
As a suggestion. The companies that provide drivers for Valley Metro are hiring, even to the point of having seen a couple of billboards for them. With the expansion of routes and the increase in frequencies and time of service they're really needing people. You do have to be able to get a CDL class B and a clean 44 month MDV record. You have to take the written test on your own out of pocket after they decide to hire you; but they put you through their own training for the driving test with their instructors and you're on the payroll while doing it. I didn't really like it all that much since I can't stand most people in mass; but survived almost 15 years. Transdev was the company I worked for, much better (and pays better) then First Transit the other company that provides drivers.

I was thinking Waterous also when I saw your post. Did a bit of digging and think you're dealing with a typo. See this entry: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waterous_Engine_Works_Co._Ltd.

Picked up a couple cans of Duplicolor Sandable Primer at O'Reilly earlier today: hot rod black and red oxide. Haven't bought a kit in several months now. Not seeing anything that interests me at least at retail price.

What non-auto model did you get today?

Being a steam freak will have to say that even for me: that one is weird. -
Problems with Dust
waynehulsey replied to kymdlr's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Dust!! Try living in Arizona, this stuff is like flour and can find every crack. Then since I live in a condo, you get the 'groundkeepers' out with their industrial blowers filling the air with dust. Since most of my windows don't open as an extra level I've ran duct tape along the seams. And as mentioned got a bunch of the old JoHan display cases. Wish I could afford glass front bookcases for all my books. -
Convert racing kit into stock - street car
waynehulsey replied to Fredd's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Nobody has offered help? I'm not real familiar with this kit, but in looking at photos it looks like the easiest and best way is to cut the flared off flush with the body then create new body panels with sheet plastic. Need good side profile photos for references. -
In my opinion, the latter 2 would be best, especially if you have interest in the medium duty trucks. I looked at the Ford F book and didn't think much of it. Have the Statham book and its pretty good. Plan on getting the McLaughlin book sometime, since all of his I've seen have been very well done. I do have a few Ford books like the entire right bookcase.

They are about the same size tractors since they came out of the same design philosophy and purpose. As far as I've been able to determine there are no identical parts. One rumor was a couple of defecting Ford engineers brought a set of Ford 2N drawings with them to Ferguson after the Ford and Ferguson split.

Is it in the Glendale-Phoenix area?
-
Yeah, I know. There is some of the 35th stuff they're doing now that I'd willing pay some major dollars for in 1:25/24 scale like the Packard Limo that ICA does.

And besides human and corporate greed, that hits the 2 taboo topics of politics and religion. I've lost track of the figures, last I remember was an estimate of 8 billion probably closer to 9 now. It seems like around 5 billion is the limit for acceptable life style and personally would say 3 to 4 billion should be the max. Better go crawl back into my cave, sense the pitchforks being sharpened and symbols fired up.

How does your family deal?
waynehulsey replied to Jeff31293's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Got that right. Tried it once, lasted for 2 years then another 3 years getting out of it and the resulting fall out. Most miserable time of my life. And turned out she was allergic to cats and hadn't told me so had to get rid of mine. Now its just me, my new cats and my books, models, cameras and artwork in my little paranoid, luddite, reasonably happy world. -
My cousins had a Ford 8N converted to propane back in the late 50's and most tractor manufacturers were offering it as an option by 1960. You had one tank to fuel the tractor and plumbed to the house for heating and cooking for you city folk. So lots of experience as Bill said using gaseous fuels with vehicle storage being a bit of a problem right now. But a lot of work is being done with hydrides which should provide a solution. The main problem is existing infrastructure and investment build around liquid petroleum that the corporations don't want to basically supersede and have to replace from their profits. Let the next CEO worry about it after I've got my retirement package. Which is also sort of what Bill said from a slightly different perspective.

Have had no problems doing that, you just don't do it ham-fisted. Also the primary for me is that I've got it on a separate electrical box so I turn it off to save energy. Like I said "cheapskate". But sometime turn off as many of those little parasites drawing power in your place and figure out the difference. It costs enough here in AZ to cool down the gates of hell without spending more then you have to on electricity. So if you save even just 4 or 5 dollars a month that's about a new Tamiya kit.
