Looks great! One of my favorite kits ever.
-
It's been a while. I think I used the MPC engine to represent a 426 wedge. It represents a car before the transition point in 72-73 when they were forced to go to small blocks because of the rules.
-
Yeah, the Polar lights body is pretty bad. I used an MPC body on the Polar lights chassis. As I recall, it went together pretty easily.
-
Very nice job on a very difficult kit!
-
You can get this air cleaner from the AMT 71 Charger kit.
-
Nice! The paint is beautiful!
-
I like the dart wheels too. They look great with the purple!

Love it. I have always wanted to build one. Do you have a contact number for Star Models?

Beautifully done! The conversion work to the hood is flawless, and the work you did to make the hardtop convincing on this kit which was meant to be a convertible goes without saying. I almost bought one with a slant six and three on the tree as a teen. It was the only one I have ever seen equipped that way. -
The Lola looks great. If your granddaughter had played with the orange Superbird no one would have noticed!

Absolutely beautiful. ?
-
Nice. I like the brake scoops on the rear fenders. It's a nice styling touch.
-
You could tape the nose on while you do the color coat. You could also tape it on and see if the chassis will fit before gluing. I built the Superbird a long time ago and painted the nose separately, which I regretted because the color difference is very obvious.

Very nice! It looks like you could jump in and drive it.

Very clean and well done! -
No offense taken to any comments. All suggestions are welcome and will help us all improve. I just checked, and I had used .040 half- round, which is. 020" in height. I have .010" available in both clear and white styrene. I would think that .020 x .010 (1/2 × 1/4" in scale) strips would be visually about right. Thanks for all the thumbs up!

I love the detail on the chassis. Very well done. I wouldn't want to drive that one very fast!

I think you're right. I noticed it looked weird after I painted the top but the green was already done, so I decided it was too late to turn back. Next time I will have all the construction work done on the top before I shoot any paint.

I just finished this one for a club build. My first experiment with a vinyl top, and I learned a lot. After much experimentation with the paint, I settled on Valspar rattle can flat black #86001. It was shot from about 3 ft. above the model. The styrene strips on top are a bit too thick - lesson learned. I used bits of monofilament fishing line to make the trim between the quarter window and back window, and covered them with BMF. Paint is Gravity Colors Chrysler Sublime Green. 10 coats of Future were used as the top coat, and hand rubbed to a glossy shine. By the way, NOTHING sticks to Future, including decals, which I learned the hard way, and CA glue, which is a good thing. The model is basically box stock except for the Beep Beep horn and a more detailed distributor. Comments and suggestions are welcome.

I'll be watching this one. I want to do a similar build for a Grand National stocker.

Sweet! Love that kit. The tire lettering looks awesome. How did you do it?
-
Here are my two wayward sons. The Petty Charger is a MPC body on a Polar Lights stock car chassis. The lowrider is painted with color-shifting paint and is curbside only. It's slammed so far that it has no room for engine or interior!
-
I made my own by taking a bottle of Testors yellow that was nearly empty and adding red to it until it matched the color I see in magazines.
-
A quick Google search indicates that Dodge had a wide variety of interior options for 1965. The dash is different from the Plymouth, and it looks like the dash was different for every Dodge model. The interior from one of the Polar Lights kits would probably be most accurate.

Nice paint work. Painting with that color from a rattle can is extremely difficult. You did a wonderful job. Did you use multiple very light coats?
