Nice looking Charger!

Well done! Great looking interior!

Looks good Mike! Yes that is an iffy kit. I did the same thing with the headlights, and my door window trim was almost non-existent. I sanded down what was there and used strip styrene to make my own.

Thanks everyone!

Thanks Carl! These were fairly easy. I just masked off around the edges, there's a ridge that can be used as a guide for cutting the tape. It also had a frosted texture that I painted with flat black craft paint. When turned right-side up, it becomes glossy under the clear top of the glass. Hopefully that makes sense.

I finished up the AMT 1955 Chevy Cameo today. What a fun build and it's instantly one of my favorites. I did a lot of customizing on this one, at least for me, including few things that I had never done before, and learned how to do them better next time. I opened the grill, cut out the engine cradle and made my own motor mounts, moved the transmission cross-member, lowered both front and rear suspensions, made the wheel tubs from a pill bottle, and made my own exhaust tips from 1/8" styrene tubing. The color is Createx Pearl Turquoise, cleared with Createx UVLS Gloss Clear. The interior is Stynylrez Gray Primer, and a custom mixture of gray craft paints. The bed was also done with craft paints and the strips with Molotow Chrome. The engine/transmission/exhaust, wheels/tires/brakes, side mirrors, and seats are from the Revell Chevy SSR kit. Everybody knows the glass doesn't really fit right on this kit, but I did manage to get it ok for the most part with just a few small gaps. I am really happy with how it turned out, and even bought another one for a future project. Thanks for looking!

How do YOU decide what to build next?
Dragonhawk1066 replied to 64SS350's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Whatever calls to me at the time, usually from a list of future projects I have. It will also depend on whether I have the color, and the time of year as I can't spray lacquers in the house. I just got the AMT '69 Hurst/Olds kit and am dying to start it, but I'm painting it Tamiya TS-26 Pure White, so it will have to wait until April or May when I can spray it in my shed. I usually concentrate on builds that will be painted with spray cans during the warm months, and I will spray bodies at the end of summer to build in the colder months. Conversely, in the winter I concentrate on builds that will utilize Water-based Acrylics that I can spray through my airbrush in my hobby room. -
I finally got back to the Cameo after my gauge decals came in. Here's a little before and after. I also had to perform some surgery to get the radiator and electric fan from the SSR to fit. Before I put it away last week, I also had to tweak the cab/bed assemblies for a more precise fit. It's getting real close now!

I went to Hobby Lobby yesterday and got the White Freightliner, '34 Ford Pickup, and '90 Mustang LX 5.0 Drag Racer along with a bottle of Createx Pearl Silver for a different upcoming build. Then I went to Rider's in Flint for a can of Tamiya Pure White, a bottle of Tamiya XF-28 Dark Copper and X-34 Metallic Brown, a bottle of Mission Aluminum, and a sheet of BMF Chrome. A couple of separate ebay purchases brought in the '69 Hurst/Olds and '69 Olds 442, and Madworks airbrush. And finally, since the first one has worked really well for me, despite bending the needle and losing the needle locking nut down the sink drain, I bought two more cheap Gothobby airbrushes from Amazon. One of those will be used for Lacquers when I finally start tinkering with them in the shed this summer.

Here's Revell's 1997 Chevy Corvette Coupe. The instructions were pretty vague on some parts locations, but it's a decent kit overall. On final assembly, the front end wouldn't snug down over the inner fenders without forcing the hood to pop up near the windshield. I took it apart a few times to try to solve the issue to no avail. Despite this issue, the stance is still pretty good, and for the most part, I can live with the look. The color is a custom mixed attempt at the rare Fairway Green Metallic factory color using metallic craft paints sprayed through my airbrush, and cleared with Pledge Floor Gloss. The interior is a mix of Stynylrez Black Primer, and Anita's Gloss Black craft paint. Overall this was a pretty fun build, and represents the newest vehicle I have built so far. As always, thanks for looking!

My ebay score arrived today. I have a project in mind for the Prowler trailer, since I'm enjoying the '55 Cameo build I couldn't resist the price for another, and I took advantage of a great offer along with combined shipping to snag the Corvette.

My initial mock-up showed I had clearance for the rear wheels, but while assembling the bed, I noticed that I was mistaken, and surgery was in order. I measured and cut out the inner bed wall, and then very carefully cut pieces out of the bed floor. I used a pill bottle to make the arches and .020 sheet styrene to fill in the arches. I thought I had everything measured correctly, so I primed, painted and cleared the fender tubs with Pledge yesterday. Upon re-assembling the bed this morning, it was apparent that the tubs were just a bit too small. So, back to the pill bottle and sheet styrene to make a couple more to be painted Monday.

Looking good! I just finished that kit myself, although I didn't kitbash it, I did highly modify it and it was a lot of fun. I actually bought two of them as one was mis- marked and I couldn't pass it up for the price, but thankfully the flash and mold lines on mine aren't nearly as bad as your pics. Looking forward to seeing this one come to life!

Thanks, I airbrushed them. I airbrush craft paints all the time, mostly for engines, chassis, and interiors. I have also airbrushed several bodies with the metallics. They definitely need to be thinned though. I started using just plain blue automotive windshield washer fluid, which works well. I now use a "homebrew" thinner that consists of 3 parts distilled water, 1 part isopropyl alcohol, and 5-6 drops of glycerin, as a flow improver, per 8 oz. batch and the results are great.
