  1. I spoke to the builder. He said it took him years to build because he kept losing the parts.
  2. One of these came my way yesterday via a 40% off Hobby Lobby coupon in Orlando. As many have said this is a bench clearing kit. I'll be using the channeled chassis, engine & drivetrain with the Revell '29 rat rod RPU kit. Then the Model A chassis and stuff from the RPU will be used on the '29 Roadster with a parts pack Caddy engine. That's the plan anyway.
  3. Okay, since we have both Mark and Art here on this one, lets ask the question that no ones thought of yet. Back in the 50's, 60's 70's, when the hobby was in it's heyday, what did model companies, engineers, sculptors, think they were creating? Did they think that they were creating toys? Something cheap that a 14 year old would slap together with a tube of glue and brush paints? Because that was the target audience back then. If this is the case, then inaccuracies can be understood, because the average kid doesn't know that the roof is two scale inches too short, so why put in the effort. Or did they understand that they were creating a medium that adults would tun into art? If this is the case, then inaccuracies cannot be acceptable. Period. However, at this time, the model companies know their customers. They know what we expect. We have the technology to do wonderous things. undrept of in 1950. It should not be hard to get perfect accuracy in the new tooled kits of today.
  4. Wow. This has got me inspired to tear into my double T kit. Keep it going.
  5. The AMT '73 "Black Cat" Cougar has a very decent Cleveland. The kits are not rare or sought after, so they aren't very expensive.
  6. Wow. What's not to love? That looks great.
  7. Okay I broke out the Dremel and the sandpaper tonight. I decided rather than stretch the body, I'd just open the front wheel wells dirt track style. Made for a lot less body work too. Gonna clean up the mods and fill the center cut. I'm thinking a bright green for paint. The front will be a little closer to the wheels when it's assembled. Lots to do. More soon.
  8. Looking good Al. Keep it going. Hope to see it in November.
  9. Nope no roof. Just the roll cage with some padding. Just like on a midget racer. In fact, this technically could be just called a Corvette bodied midget. Sorta. Kinda. Maybe not.
  10. Mike, c'mon. It's not difficult. See the lines on the right that say "share this photo"? Copy the line of data next to the IMG. Paste that data into the forum window just like you did the link.
  11. This is the next build on my hit parade. I'm honestly not sure what it's gonna look like when it's done. Here's the plan. AMT dirt track modified chasis and drivetrain for the "Mousey" '35 Chevy kit. Body from the Sock it to Me Corvette kit and some Revell trans-am style wheels/tires. So far I have narrowed the Corvette body 1/2 inch to fit the width of the chassis. Next I will lengthen the body 1/4 inch at the top of the front wheel wells. That will make my wheelbase match the modified chassis. Lot's of filler is coming I'm sure. It'll be like no racing car I've ever seen, but it will sure look fun to drive. More soon.
  12. Very nice choice. I love silver on a hot rod.
  13. Yep. That's how we do it.
  14. It seesm like you have rationalized cheating by calling it a "man's game". I wonder how you'd feel if your Pats were on the receiving end of such tactics.
  15. Thanks Danno. Much appreciated. I strive for some measure of originality in all my models. As you said, it is hard to do it in the automotive world.
  16. If you'll forgive me for beING the devil's advocate, the title of the thread isnt asking for only positive thoughts on the kits.
  17. Happy to help guys. Lets face it, 1/24 kits are tricky to build. We have a limited supply of kits from which to kitbash. And most of those are the very definition of low-parts-count-simplicity. And 1/25 parts very rarely look correct in a 1/24 model. As Bob pointed out, the '37 Fords have a great chassis and come with a Chevy small block so it would still work for the '39's. So between the Monogram tri-five Chevys which have nice vintage small blocks, '39 Chevys with the 427's, Quicksilver '60 Chevy, '37 Fords, '40 Ford pickup, 90's Corvettes, '53 Corvette and others we have some good options, but it just takes time and planning to get all the parts.
  18. I'm no expert but I think the suspension is pretty close to stock. Dual leafs front and back. the engine is not. However, if you find the Monogram '53 Chevy coupe it has a very nice inline 6 that fits the '39 very nicely as they are both 1/24.
  19. Man, I like it. Great stuff.
  20. Same here. However at some point I realized that after a few local contests, the model is going to sit in a case for the rest of my life and no one will even see the extra work. And as for contests, I've won a few awards, but the model hasn't won because of extra detail. Usually it's because its cleanly built and eye catching. After that realization, I'm enjoying modeling much more. As for stalled projects, that you have lost all interest in, either part them out or sell/trade them away. An old project, sitting there on the shelf unfinished is just a source of stress, in what is supposed to be a fun hobby. I've got a local swap meet coming up, where I'll be unloading at least four dusty projects. They move on to someone elses shelf, I get to buy another kit.
  21. That's ............................... pretty impressive. Tell us more about this magical cutter.
  22. The metallic sheen makes me think its gold being represented on the box and it would get my vote over yellow in any case. Looking forward to seeing this one.
  23. Well it certainly does seem like they were describing a sleeper. So I'd be thinking a five window, no chop. Fenders optional. Hood and sides - mandatory. "You don't know what I got." Any roots type blowers available that could be kept under the hood? Tri-power at a minimum or perhaps something more exotic? This is a cool idea, I'm interested in seeing what you come up with.
  24. I really like where this is going. Looking forward to seeing more.
