  1. Debatable. The '55 had stock appearing front suspension and ride height and was wearing street radials in most scenes. I would not consider that a "gasser". I'm really kicking this around some. I do have a build planned that fits this theme. So at this time pencil me in with a AMT 1949 Ford which will be done largely box stock with the addition of a 312 y-block w/tri-power from the AMT 34 pick-up.
  2. Slant, thanks so much for throwing the props my way. I had a good time running the Cannonball, and I'm real glad you've moved it here. Hopefully we'll get all the great builders we've had in the past join us here. One reason I stopped running the Cannonball was that I had nothing "Cannonball-esque" in the planning stages. But now with your theme, that might be more do-able. No promises, but we'll see what I can come up with. Happy New Year ya'll! EDIT: Another thing you might want to think about. This is the Cannonball - cross country race set in 1962. The cars should reflect more than just whatever folks were driving in '62. It's gotta look like it could actually do the deed. So yeah, we had gassers in '62 but would you want to try to carve a corner in one? Just food for thought.
  3. For those of you with the recent Revell Black Widow '57 kit that are sorta wondering what to do with it, you might want to check out the March '12 issue of Rod and Custom. The cover car is a stunning '57 150 sedan staight axle gasser. Really nice.
  4. As for myself, we just had a enormous "oh ######" moment at work that has set us back by six months or more. I have had very little free time for building lately and when I do, don't have the energy. If this CBP tapers off in the coming weeks rest assured that I will bring it back when I have some building time. Be cool.
  5. I'd also try a different paint. I hate Testors enamels for that very reason. Try their one shot lacquers or some Duplicolor auto paint from your local auto parts stores.
  6. YEAH! I like it! Well done.
  7. Lets not overlook that it can really be a lot of fun to take that lousy kit and make it LOOK lousy. That is bad kits are perfect for weathering. Also they give you a perfect opportunity to experiment with heavy scratchbuilding or kit bashing without risking a really good kit. This was built from the AMT 66 Mustang Coupe and the AMT 73 Cougar. By most opinions both are not great kits. But by combining the best of both (the body and chassis respectively), a few parts box parts, and some scratchbuilding I got this, that has won several awards. Knock them all you want but don't let a bad kit keep you from building it.
  8. I generally don't have problems assuming the front seats aren't molded in. If they are molded in, they generally look like garbage anyway and I remove and replace them (cutting from the underside of the tub). If door panels are giving you issues, then cut the door panels out carefully, do your detailing and then glue them back in. The gaps from the cutting are supposed to be there anyway so no harm, no foul.

    Real nice work!
  10. Well I do of course keep the WIP photo files but any inspiration shots or research I just delete. I have started keeping the box tops to every kit I finish. When I finally get a premanent home and set up shop I'll decorate the shop with them.
  11. You know I have this kit in my stash, and I haven't really looked at it. But this kit got thoroughly bashed in the "worst kit" thread and Antonio mentions it again here. I'm starting to see this kit like the biggest bull at the rodeo. A challenge not to be backed away from. Tonio, I like where you're going with this, keep it going.
  12. When it comes out like that I'd say its time well spent. Nice work.
  13. I quite agree. I'll be planning ahead for this one.
  14. I'm expecting Donn Yost's DVD. No kits this year. My wife tells me that she has something special for me for our 20th anniversary on Jan 11th though. I'm hoping it's the paint booth I've been hinting at for five years.
  15. If the forum is down for a day or so, I'm generally fine. All I really need to build is my Pandora. What keeps me building, keeps me motivated, is this forum. So I would seriosuly miss it if it were gone. The social aspect of this hobby (thanks to Mr. Gore and his internet) is something I thoroughly enjoy. If it was still a solo hobby I doubt I would build as much.............or so well. I've learned a lot from everyone.
  16. Forgot about it? Where is the model now that you could forget somwething so well done? That looks awesome. Really well done.
  17. Monster, I really like your "lets twist this a bit" build style. Welcome to the forum. BTW, there is a forum rule here that you must post your full name in your signiture line.
  18. The Ford Model BB was a 1/12 ton truck used for wreckers, cargo, farm and dump trucks etc. Dually wheels were an option. I don't know what the difference in the frames was but I'd assume they were generally beefier. A quick check revealed this thread though. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=44918
  19. WHOA! VERY COOL!
  20. Actually you can put it on your desert just fine. Why anyone would want shiny sand though, is beyond me. Just don't put in on your dessert. Sorry Rick, I couldn't resist.
  21. Yeah, I don't know about crazy stashes like that. A wall of models would hang over me and make me feel guilty everytime I played a computer game. I have 50 kits and it suits me fine.
  22. Ya know guys after all this listing and discussion it might be fun to do a "Terrible Kit CBP".
  23. Virgil, these are just models man. You threw the rule book out a looooooong time ago. If you want to make a moon rover with Dale Earnhart livery by all means go for it!
  24. Nicely done! *now where is that clapping insanely emoticon?*
