Nice work Bill. You always have an eye for authenticity. -
I'm a fan of trucks but...
Jantrix replied to iamsuperdan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have a 40 mile one way commute to work with 13 of them on gravel roads. If I can find an reliable, affordable electric truck with 4x4 capability for when it snows, to start cutting into my $200+ monthy gasoline bill, I'll buy one no matter how it looks. I am gonna beat the heck out it though. -
When the project dies. Or does it?

? You are quite welcome! Smilex! LOL! -
Okay then, lets do it. I'll post up a progress pic on my truck soon.

Racers, as it sits, Dec 1 falls on a Sunday. Losing a build day after a holiday is unthinkable, so I'm going to go ahead and extend the CBR until the 2nd, a Monday. That's the deadline. If you are doing the last minute thing, which I personally have never done ?, this should help. After the deadline, lets get any completed builds over to the finished builds thread so our esteemed Lunajammer can get the poll going.

Ryan, if we are going to officially start this as a CBP, you might want to either edit the first post and thread title to say so, or start a new thread altogether, and let everyone know exactly what you are looking for in this build off. Any build rules, dates, requirements etc. I've run a few of these, both successfully and unsuccessfully. For instance, can I join with my half done Chevy dually or are you looking for new builds only?

Aside from the carbs, the entire engine is from the AMT '57 Chevy hardtop. Guys, thanks very much for the interest. I plan to work this one straight to the finish. -

Issue #206, Contest Issue, MAILED!!!
Jantrix replied to Gregg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm no photographer so I can't say for certain, I can certainly vouch that when Gregg took the photos, they looked marvelous on his camera LCD. Perhaps it has more to do with the printing than the photography. But, if you check out the GSL group photo, it too is dark, so who can say. -
This one was pretty recent.

Yep that's what I did. I finally settled on an engine. I've had this built for about ten years and I'm happy it's finally in a model. More soon. I'm working on the cab glass and the bed diamond plate and it's weathering. -
Well I'd agree that it's possible, but it's not a gasser kit per se, that is, straight from the box. Unless you've inside info at Revell? ? But I do think it would make a great gasser. Being 1/24 it's a bit problematic but not insurmountable.

When the project dies. Or does it?
Jantrix replied to Jantrix's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Now that is a unique statement. I've never heard a modeler say that before. That's not a criticism, just an observation. A unique perspective, but based on the cost of whatever kits you build, an understandable one I suppose. Frankly I couldn't build models without doing so. I look at a kit as just a box of material. -

You have my attention.

Pat, there was never any intention of this being a compedative CBP like the Cannonball, per the original post. My own build is still in the works and it will be completed eventually. Somewhere in this thread I nixed the end date for this build off, so anyone who still wants to build one or finish their WIP should feel free to post their work here, because I will be. Again my apologies for dropping the ball as lead on this build off. Life doesn't seem to care that I'd rather be building models.

I quite agree. As long as they are not a poorly built death trap, and some of them are, they are a great example of a budget hot rod with some individual style. I have a truck in the works that would qualify, so I'll participate if you take a stab at this.

Great idea. I had the same thought years ago, but I ended up using the wagon bed behind the seats and going topless. Like a 4 door Lincoln roadster pick-up. Then created a surfboard rack. Looking forward to seeing yours.

I printed off some southwestern style blankets for the bench seat. It wrinkled in the printer, but I still got four good ones. I used a lint free cloth, but there are printable fabrics available in most craft stores. More soon. -

Jantrix replied to Jantrix's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Thanks guys. It's a thin coat of green over white on the cab and blue on the bed, sanded down to show a bit of the previous color. Then I use a rusty wash. The sanded paint is real rough so the wash settles nicely into it and looks like surface rust. I will add a bit more in areas where moisture would settle and rust more heavily. I'm gonna add more rust around the bottom of the body later on. More soon. -

I ended up channeling the cab just a little bit so that I had to radius the front wheel arches. I have begun the weathering. I'll be doing some diamond plate in the bed and on the running boards which will also incorporate the exhaust exits. I have something special planned for the bed that I will keep a secret until the model is done. ? -
Well I figure it's far enough along to post now. Lately posting has been the kiss of death on my projects, but all the bugs are worked out on this one. The rest is just paint and assembly. The first pic is the inspiration. So I started with AMT's '50 CHevy 3100. First I moved the rear axle back about 3/8 of an inch by stretching the chassis. I wanted to give it just a bit longer wheelbase as the inspiration truck is obviously a 3/4 ton or better, but the bed looks like it's been shortened after the rear fender. I fabbed up some motor mounts and channeled the bed so that the bottom is even witht he bottom of the cab.

When the project dies. Or does it?
Jantrix replied to Jantrix's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Thanks for everyone who replied. I'm surprised to see how many people don't recycle dead projects. A project that sat decades would bother the heck out of me.
