  1. I owe SAE quite lot. When I was about 19 (1987) I was still putzing around with models. When I brought one out to show my dad, my mom chimed in, "Aren't you a little old for toy cars?" I thought about that quite a lot, because it had already been bouncing around in my mind. When I spotted my first issue of SAE in the hobby store, and saw the level of work from ADULTS(!!!), I felt completely vindicated. I saw those little plastic kits, not as toys, but as the canvas for art. I bought that issue and many more in the years that followed. It is likely I would not be a modeler today if it were not for that magazine. As for the things that have changed, it's all been for the better. So it's all good.
  2. I need 10 for a current project. I'm not going to pony up $20+ for two sets of aluminum ones. I'd prefer to make them if I can. I'd like to hear any methods you've come up with the properly flare the ends of either styrene or aluminum tube. Thanks.
  3. Terrific build. How did you accomplish the metallic gold numbers? They look like gold leaf.
  4. Very good work, but I'm not understanding the wires. If they are meant to be air lines or something, some matte clear brushed on will make them look more realistic.
  5. Ah. Thanks. I didn't know they did that release.
  6. Question. You specifically called this the Suicide Squad Batmobile. The kit is from BvS if I'm not mistaken. What was different between the two that you are trying to show?
  7. Man I really like this. I really like the look of the y-block. Classic hot rodding at its best.

I saw this one at GSL, a really cool little model. Really well done. I spent a good bit of time looking at it and trying to figure out why it didn't look "wrong", when it quite obviously should. In the end I never did figure it out. Terrific work.
  9. That is really terrific. I like the use of the Willys frame. Great thinking.
  10. I like it. Nice work.
  11. I agree the bondo will disolve depending on your stripping agent. I use Purple Stuff and it does eat bondo.
  12. Thanks guys. Nice to see I'm not alone here. I definitely screw up models occasionally, but it was the back to back to back nature of these last few frustrating builds that just has my nerves worn thin. I'll try to get back on the horse here soon with something a bit more forgiving.
  13. The last three builds I've tackled, I've made "now I need new parts" kinda mistakes. This makes me a little crazy and they go back in the box. It doesn't happen to me often, so three in a row is really raining on my parade. It's hard to get over the frustration from this. I get little enough bench time as it is, so it's not like I need a break. I just get irritated now when I sit down at the bench, and the fun of building is gone. I'm going to start a kit (soon, maybe ?) with few modifications involved and try to get through it without going nuts. I'm probably not going to post a WIP as it's been the kiss of death for my builds of late. Anyone else gotten through this?
  14. Try it on a scrap piece first. But I wouldn't get your hopes up. Sounds dicey.
  15. Mike, there are two or three guys on this forum that work is brass and like you, are no slouch at it. Hopefully someone has some of those threads saved and can link them for you. As for me, brass builders make me a little crazy as I have enough issues just working with plastic. ? Welcome to the forum.
  16. Well for one thing, most cars of the era had a bezzle around the light. Which is why we paint them after we foil them. The foil creates the bezzle and using a transparent red/amber gives the illusion of a reflective surface. I appreciate trying to find an earier way, but when you are looking for realism, the sticker doesn't cut it in my opinion.
  17. I dig it. The Revell Model A chassis and engine look right at home there. Well done.
  18. He's replicating a pro-charger aka centrifugal supercharger car. Turbos are spun by the exhaust gasses, superchargers are spun by the engine.
  19. I don't know why they would called a Level 4 model. The Monogram tri-fives are simple and don't have perfect proportions, but they go together extremely well. I like them.
  20. I dig it. Looks authentic to me.
  21. That looks terrific Rod. Nice work.
  22. Me too. Yer in! Get going!
  23. Wow. I'd hate to have a model within 10 feet of that on a contest table. Amazing work that was very well thought out and executed. Everything is just perfect. You really stepped it up, Roger.
  24. Am I reading this right? $64.99 x 24 months? $1560 total. And they send the parts in monthly installments? What if the company folds before you get the whole thing? My Spidey-sense is tingling.
