Tom, I've considered that, but the rear mount on the leaf springs are quite far back. They will be out past the body, so the gas tank cover was to also hide that. BTW folks, I do appreciate advice on this sort of thing so feel free to chime in with ideas.

I LOVE this beauty!!
Jantrix replied to Ironman63's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I quite agree. It's a bit over-modernized in my opinion and in ten years will look quite dated. -
Thanks guys. Rod, the aprons did not survive the fender removal which is a real miscalculation on my part. I thought of it only after the damage was done. Right now I'm trying to decide if I should leave the floor below the body like this photo or bring it up inside the body which seems like it would be the right way, but I'd have to separate the cover over the back of the gas tank.

I've always have thought it was a great hot rod. I have the kit and will be building it box stock as well. Nice work.

Speaking for myself, I'm always interested in seeing your projects come together. Any lack of views/replies might have something to do to the rather ambiguous thread title more than anything else, IMHO. I'm looking forward to seeing the blown Allison.

Need help suspending 1/144 snow speeder
Jantrix replied to Evlwevl's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Using acrylic rod as a stand is the norm for scale aircraft in such a setting. I think any metal wire you use to hold it horizontal will fatigue with time and then Luke and Dak will be in the snow. Before they, you know, would be in the snow. -
Do you prime all pieces
Jantrix replied to youpey's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Not if its going to be silver or any other metal type color. Also if I'm spraying a chassis with flat or satin black, I do not always prime. -
Some chassis changes. I've removed the bumper brackets and added push bar in the back and a spreader bar in the front. I have decided not to do any sort of channeling here. I want the hinged rumble seat to be functional. As for colors, I'm kicking around a gloss gray for the body and the wheels will match the engine color or be black. No white walls and in a somewhat controversial move, I have stripped the chrome from the enormous grill and it will be body color with chrome inserts. The grill usually mounts to the fender unit, so I'll have to get creative on how to mount it with no fenders.

I've though about that also. The clips would be another issue. This is the AMT kit from the Connoisseur Classics release. -
If you are familiar with this kit you know that the engine is really great looking, but the head is problematic when it comes to ignition wiring. The odd looking spike is supposed to represent the ignition wiring looms. Real hard to get rid of as I'll also lose the bolt heads that run next to it. I'd like to see what you guys have done to make this look decent.

I've moved on to losing the fenders. The head is problematic when it comes to wiring the distributor.

I've never known a builder who sold/gave away his models for another hobby, that didn't regret it later. Good luck with the racing.

I like to use decals. They are a big draw for me when I'm selecting a kit. If a model comes with some cool hot rod decals, flames, scallops, etc., I'm into it. So if model #1 has great decals and model #2 has bad decals, the decision is easy. Unless I have a project in mind that specifically requires model #2, as I mentioned, I bought the Coke '55 Cameo, but normally I'll pass it by.
-
On a truck kit, something that might have a business logo on it in any case, i'm cool with the Coke decals. I bought the '55 Cameo. Whatever. On a passenger car like the '57 in Greg's OP, I take offense and it would be a no sale for me.

deep sump oil pan, prefer Cobra
Jantrix replied to fiatboy's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
The part would be small enough, it seems it would be very easy to modify one with some plastic stock. -
The first gen Chargers are my all time favorite muscle cars. When this was released about 19 years ago, I bought one. Thereafter I've been buying the same model every time it's realeased with a new paint job. I have collected about 20 so far. They are the only Hot Wheels I collect. Still looking for a few.
