Anybody seen one of these models before
Oldcarfan27 replied to slusher's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
There's one on Epay right now. https://www.ebay.com/itm/154787808550?hash=item240a128526:g:JOkAAOSwTUlh20hq -
Spray it with matte fixative, dullcote or even a non-sticky hairspray to hold the dust in place.

Glad you saved the patina, it came out exactly what builders strive for. Sometimes you can't beat mother nature.

Continental Mark II Convertible

Re: wash on the seats. Maybe try an off-white wash just to hint the shading. You want to slightly emphasize the material, not make it look dirty! A little goes a long way. -

Cat Dozer, aye? What scale is that? I don't see the tracks, and must not've included the decals. Probably has a good idle when running.

Man, that truck stinks!!! Actually, I think it's a very clever play on words and very well done build. I love the graphics. But shouldn't the truck be brown? Second thought, then you couldn't tell if it leaked. -

Looks like it's built nicer than the cars on the roads! -

Cool, I never realized how detailed this kit was. I thought it was simple like the Visible V8, so I never took it seriously. Now I want one! Think Atlantis got the molds? -
Chrome Reverse Wheels?
Oldcarfan27 replied to Smitty's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
AMT 59 ElCamino has a great unchromed set. Johan 64 Dodge Super Stock had a nice chromed set. Other Johans maybe did too. AMT 57 Thunderbird has chromed open wheel detail on the inside wheel backs, AFAIK you'll have to source the rings. Also check 56 & 57 Fords for some simple open wheels. MPC 70s Camaros had chromed racing open wheels for the racing option. Revell (now Atlantis) tri-five Chevies had open wheels behind the hubcaps. Don't forget the wheels in Monogram's Orange Crate, Predicta and Blue Beetle, although they're 1/24th and may be too big. -
Don't discount Round 2 from doing one though. If they can do a 64 Cutlass convertible and 442 hardtop from an old tool, then the 68 Hurst is a "piece o' cake"! Unless you were to build a complete crankcase assembly, I don't think you'd be able to see a 1" deck height difference in 1/25, but I guess you could shim it up if you really needed to. (tell them it's extra gaskets) ? I think you just reiterated what I said - visually, they'd look the part. Valve Covers are the same. Heads are the same. Blocks are the same EXCEPT for the deck height difference. They might dock you for points at an NNL meet, but the rest of us would be none the wiser.

Whatever semantics there are with the Holiday Coupe body, I am happy they are bringing out a new variation of this Oldsmobile. Variety is a good thing and we should be glad for a hardtop body and a 71 at that. At least they didn't do it as "another" 69. With this, can a 70 be far behind? Maybe a 68 Hurst? A 71 Cutlass SX? I'm glad they are trying new ideas, now the 71 442 will be off of our "grail" lists! BTW, aren't the 350, 403, and 445 Olds engines based on the same block? Just like the Pontiac 350, 400, 428, and 455 visually look identical outside. The only way anyone can tell what the internals are in 1/25 scale, would be if you told them or you put a decal on it.

Kit Review! AMT 1962 Ford Fairlane annual
Oldcarfan27 replied to RDean58's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Great story! Especially good that you even remembered all the prices. Took me back, and I wasn't even there. I could picture in my mind all the cool stuff that must've been on those shelves. -
Was it Dorman Products? I heard that's what they do when they recreate parts to replace the junky OEM ones that keep breaking in the same places.
-
Probably because to install it, you had to cut away the entire roof and that would leave a weak assembly to build and square up all the pickup truck paraphernalia. My guess is it was too complicated for most builders to complete. I do think it looks miles better than the half roof piece we've been getting ever since.
-
I thought they woulda given us a Supreme or SX using the convertible quarters and the more formal roofline. "Sigh", guess I'll have to do one myself someday. Maybe they can make it as an add on option to the convertible kit in the future.

No it's pronounced "eye-gore" But they told me it's "ee'gore" Well they were wrong then, weren't they? Classic movie!
