Great resto! Beautiful build of a cool car...
-
Hi Ludwig, as was to be expected from you... this turned out VERY nice! Rare but beautiful choice of color, great paint and foiling job. Nice details on the rear part and the white color on the headlight bezels. Using a different set of white walls added a nice touch aswell. Those precious old Jo-Han kits are in very good hands with you, good to know you still got some more!

IIRC from reading in Tim Boyd's book, this was to be the last NEW (formely unreleased) kit to be introduced under the MPC label.
-
Good to have you back healthy, Matt! Best wishes and model on!

...which is the same kit like the AMT kit I'm currently building, if I remember that correctly from Tim Boyd's book... I'm looking forward to see you start painting, Steve!
-
It IS indeed, many thanks, Steve! I have already corrected the part that should be black. Although it's not my favorite act to mask off and spray-paint a body that's basically fully painted and foiled - but it did work out. I will take care of the chromed windshield plate aswell. I consider using two different kinds of BMF for the wipers and the plate in order not to make it all look like a big piece of chrome...

I hear you! I foiled mine yesterday and they look okay to me too (they look pretty similar to the Jo-Han kit IMHO):

Using micro drills on distributors etc....

Wow - what a HUGE coin! Very nice model... I have both of the Monogram Ultimate 1/43 scale kits (Cobra and '67 Corvette). Did the Vette back in 1990 when those kits were just released and it looked okay with the PE parts for the exhaust etc. Some years later on, I took the chance when both kits were on sale real cheap. I guess 1/43 scale still is more of a collector's than a builder's scale. Though there are some fine kits out there. Long story short, if I build mine one day, I'd be happy if it would turn out somewhere near as good as yours! -
Nice build, interesting color. Always nice to see someone cutting that hood open and adding nice engine details. I was crazy enough to open the trunk aswell...

Fully agree! @Steve, may I ask: are you keeping the molded-in windscreen wipers or are you going to sand them down and use aftermarket stuff?

I had the same problem on an resto model... I believe the denting was even a bit worse on mine. Anyways, I decided to sand down the emblems and fill the dents. IMHO, the kit emblems are way too wide compared to the real ones. Plus a lot of the cars don't even carry them. -
Hi Steve, great detailing work! I am myself in the final stages of completing the '69 AMT Olds 442 kit, but not remotely to a level of detailing somewhere near as your build is. Great idea and inspiration to use Evergreen stuff for making door panel details. I will definitely use that method in the future, thanks for sharing!

Very nice builds! Not so easy to overcome the "opacity problem" when using the white tail stripe on the Daytona. When I'll build mine, I guess I'll try to use 2 white stripes on top of each other (should I manage to find a second sheet) - or go for the black one.

Nice'n clean build, great engine detail! But where are the exhausts? The problem with these dark blue colors is that they mostly appear too dark on photos. Yours looks almost black. I did a Mustang in TS-53 some months ago, it was almost the same then...
-
I have seen quite a few nice builds coming from this kit over the years, but your two models are the best of them! Very clean builds and perfectly painted/ polished!
-
Couldn't agree more - great result!
-
Very nice, but why not show more photos?
-
Thanks, this will be tried out. I imagine success might depend on the the type of color that will be used (enamel, acrylic...). Btw, I've used a similar technique by painting plain masking tape and cutting it to size.

Thanks again, guys...

Thanks folks for all your kind words. The color is supposed to replicate the temporary Fire Bronze color, which I find to be elegant and exciting at the same time. For replicating this very color I used Tamiya TS 92 metallic orange over grey tamiya primer (the darker one). Never underestimate the enhanced possibilities that come with using lighter or darker primer... Don't believe me?

I like it too - nice model!

The builder's (first) name is Ludwig... Other than that, I fully agree!
