  1. Beautiful work, I especially like that Olds! Do you have a WIP thread on the Jag? I'd be interested in seeing how you did the dash and door tops.
  2. Some great looking rides there, nice work!
  3. Thanks, guys!
  4. Very clean work, that looks great!
  5. Somewhere along the way, I found myself with a bunch of late C1 parts, including most of a Revell "Skip's Fiesta" Corvette (labelled a '60 but really a '59) and a badly gluebombed AMT '59/60. I happened across another gluebomb at a toy show, this time an AMT '62, and decided to bash all three together with whatever else was needed from my parts box to finally build myself a '61 Corvette. To keep it with my usual theme of pop culture builds, I made it to represent the mild custom used in the 1988 movie Hairspray. Most of it was pretty straightforward, at least in theory: '59 front end, '62 rear, and Skip's Fiesta for the chassis, engine, and interior. The interior was wrong for '61, but the seats in the movie car happened to have the '59 style crosswise pleats so that saved me some work. The door panels and dashboard were done in tuck and roll, which I replicated by gluing half round stock to flat styrene and the kit-supplied dash. The trickiest part came from trying to get all three to fit together, especially around the seats. Lots of test fitting, carving, and retesting until things nestled together. Parts box items include the wheels, tires, headlights, and mirrors. The nose and cove badges are Model Car Garage PE, left over from my '62 build several years ago. While it's not my cleanest work, I'm pretty happy with how well the three very different kits came together in the end. A full writeup of the build is available here, and as always any comments/criticisms are welcome! With fellow musical movie car, the "White Lightning" from Grease: And a couple of pics with my '60 and '62:
  6. Thank you!
  7. That turned out great - probably cleaner than the 1:1 ever looked. Nicely done!
  8. Awesome job on these!
  9. Excellent work!
  10. Excellent work on all of them!
  11. Very clean work, they look great!
  12. Nicely done, I especially dig the Great Pumpkin!
  13. Both look great, nice work!
  14. Nice looking group!
  15. Thanks!
  16. Well deserved, congratulations!
  17. I don't recall hitting any major problems with the assembly, though I screwed up the paint a few times.
  18. Thank you!
  19. It's a tough kit, I'd say you did a great job with it.
  20. Thanks guys! I removed the original window surround, then cut a pair of louvered inserts from Evergreen 0.040" clapboard siding. A little sanding to refine the fit and some careful bendding to make sure they fit the openings as tightly as possible, then installed them with Tamiya extra thin cement to really seat them. "ROBIN-1" is by far the better known license plate, but the pilot episode Ferarri with its older style "56E-478" is what I always think of when I think of this car. If I find (or decide to make) the later GTS, it will be wearing a "ROBIN-1" plate. No, the kit itself was actually very good. I may have wished for a better part breakdown to make painting easier in a couple of places, but really nothing to complain about. Cool!
  21. All told I think this turned out great, nicely done!
  22. Thank you!
  23. Classy looking T-Bird, nice work!
  24. Thanks, guys! I had one of the official Magnum kits as well, but only got as far as starting the engine and removing the top before reboxing and getting rid of it. They really whiffed the body shape with its chop-top roofline, and while the functional parts all sounded really interesting the QC just wasn't there to pull it off. No argument from me, I think the early 308 with its clean nose is darn near perfection.
