  1. Once in a while I've been able to take glued parts apart by applying a generous amount of Tamiya extra thin cement.
  2. I've never had a Tamiya gloss paint dry to a dull finish.
  3. Yep some kits are just pigs, no amount of lipstick will make them look good. You need to find out how old a kit is. The early Academy molds really suck while the later are much much better. I recently finished a Academy 1/72 scale F/A 18 and it was a very nice kit. I see it's diving into the toilet. Saw a YouTube video where a guy got so fed up, he stuck a model car in a blender and turned it on.
  4. Try Eduard models, they have tons of photo etch. Most for aircraft, armor, and ships but they also have generic mesh as well.
  5. If you're worried about oily fingerprints you could use latex gloves. I always use gloves after painting a model while working on it.
  6. I use odorless (yeah right) paint thinner I get in the art dept. at Hobby Lobby. Use sparingly. I found another panel line accent stuff which works great but it's hard to find. Flory Panel Line Accent. It's clay based so its completely water soluble . Just take a Q tip and spit on it, wipes off the excess perfectly and you don't have to worry about melting your finish. You can get it from Flory models in the UK. Only place I've found it in the US is at High Altitude Hobbies.
  7. Or you can paint the seat, let dry and spray a fairly generous coat of hair spray. Then when the hair spray dries (1/2 hour or so), over spray with acrylic. I accidently screwed up a paint job on a aircraft this way.
  8. My clubs have shut down thru next month anyway. We are having a photo contest with everyone sending a photo in. I say photo, but you know what I mean......
  9. I love some of the arguments about scale effect in painting. How distance affects gloss or lack of it, too much or too little color saturation.
  10. My wife drives a 2020 Santa Fe, been thinking about buying this kit and building it for her.
  11. Depends on who's doing the mods. A guy in his garage is limited to what he could accomplish, while a complete custom shop could do a lot in two days.
  12. I've discovered that scotch is especially effective. If taken in sufficient quantities, you won't even care if you're sick.
  13. Micro sol should ONLY be put on the decal after it is in it's final position. It makes the decals too soft and fragile to move around, so don't put it on before applying the decal.
  14. compresins.com/site/751597/product/CRT-508 Or tedsmodelingmarketplace.com
  15. They work OK, nothing to get excited about. I thing the Model Master metallics look better, but then you might not be able to put up with the odor.
  16. Exactly right. It's hard not to bomb parts with a spray can, ends up looking like the piece was dipped in a bucket of paint. Spray cans are OK for bodies but for everything else a air brush works a lot better.
  17. Use the Tamiya gloss. The X series are gloss, the XF are flat. You can also top coat with Tamiya clear gloss.
  18. Very nice. here's a photo of the real thing.
