1969 Camaro chassis/floorpan painting
Plowboy replied to bytownshaker's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Or paint the subframe last. -
Never ever leave tape on for several days. It's no wonder you had a reaction. I don't think any tape is made to stay on for a week. I always remove tape as soon as I spray the second color. Tricky to do. But, I get much cleaner lines as well as minimal buildup along the edge. Next time you want to protect your paint, use a tape called mar guard. It's a see through blue tape that adheres by static cling. Same concept as the clear cling wrap used in the kitchen. It can be left on for long periods.

Depends on what look you're after. If you want it stock, fog along the edges. If custom, you can paint it body color. -

How does the hood fit the body? Particularly at the area the hood looks wonky. -

'64 Olds Cutlass kit problem

I see what you're talking about Rusty. Looks like a defect in the mold. It can be fixed of course. But, it'll be hard to preserve the Oldsmobile script. -
Is it me or does it look like the wheelbase has been extended at the rear? The bed is definitely longer in front of the rear wheels. On the full scale, the rear wheels are centered or very close whether it's a long or short bed. The bed on the box art looks to be a long bed. It looks like the rear axle has been moved back a few inches.
-
Me too Patrick. That's why it's baffling to me to see some complain about Round2's retro box art. Whether it's retro or original box art, it takes you back when you built it the first time.

This was the kit I wanted. ^^^ I bought this one thinking it was the same exact kit except for decals. It even has the same grille on the box. But, it has the newer grille inside. The turn signals are filled in on the body. Something I noticed on the body is the gas cap is behind the rear wheel opening. The AMT kit has it in front of the wheel opening.

I always paint the underside of the hood and the engine bay first. Then tape the hood to the body with blue tape. If needed, I'll push the hood up slightly so that it's above the fenders. With pickups, I have a jig made so that I can tape the cab and bed onto and spray as a unit. I spray the cab wall and front of the bed first.

I first sanded away the reveal on the quarters. Sanded the hump at the base of C pillars down. Reworked the bottom of the quarter window. Puttied the top of the quarters to add some height. Cut the bottom of the quarters and added a .040 shim. Made a new reveal with .010 rod and putty. Reshaped the wheel openings and put the trim back. Cut across the trunk and stuck a .040 shim in the middle and filled the remaining back in. New vent window frames. New reveal on front fenders. Lot easier to explain with photos. Next time I do it, I'll take some as I'm doing it.

'79 Ford vans had square headlights. '78 had round headlights.

I bought the "Stunt Van" thinking it was the same kit as the "Off Road" van. But, it has the newer grille and it's molded in red. I was going to attempt to paint the graphics of the "Off Road" version. But, never have got around to it.
-
The MPC "Stunt Van" has the later model grille with the square headlights.

I have this kit. It's horrible!

Please! Let's not get that topic going! I'd rather read the curmudgeon's hating on anything past 1970.

Old people think new trends are stupid. Young people think old trends are stupid. Life goes on.

Geez Scott! We get it! No need to make the same post seven times! No wait. Eight times now!

Those alloy wheels were in the original version and the plow truck. The Big Game Country version has the chrome spoke wheels. Do you mean the tires? The wheels aren't directional.

I bought that kit back in the day. I was disappointed that it didn't have the wheels that appear on the box. It instead had chrome spoke wheels.
