Very nice looking Road Runner Bob! I really like how you handled the chin spoilers! That looks so much better than factory! I've always thought those were so out of place on the full scale. Nice work!

Thanx Roger! It's Model Masters Diamond Green. It's been discontinued for some time. You may be able still find a can of it.

Try a set from a SBC. The port spacing is a little different on the center ports. The Y block has a bit of space between them vs. the Chevy siamesed ports. But, that's a simple fix. The AMT '66 Nova has a set that may work with the Ford engine and frame.

Aluminum wheels question
Plowboy replied to Bob Warfield's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
It's a '59 Edsel with a '57 Fairlane roof. You can get the Pegasus TT2'S all the same size. I didn't mention that earler. This model has the 19" with a larger rear tire. -
Don't forget the '90s stuff either Tom. Especially AMT kits. Some of those are pretty soft. As long as you get the body scuffed with whichever method you choose, you won't have any more problems. I usually go over the entire body with 400, shoot a very light coat of primer and sand again with 600. Any issues I may have missed will show. If all is good, I shoot the final primer.

Aluminum wheels question
Plowboy replied to Bob Warfield's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I just buy mine on ebay. Pegasus makes the TT2's (Torque Thrust2) in a 19 and 23 inch. They're solid chrome. But, you can paint the centers. This model has both sizes on it. -
The thing about using mildly hot lacquer primers is it may etch into one body and craze another. Someone started a thread not too long ago about one of the Dupli Color primers (think it was RandyC?) and it crazed certain areas on a '68 Chevelle. To me, it just makes more sense to use a primer that's formulated to use over styrene. I used to use Dupli Color primer. Until I started having issues with it.

Thanx! I thought about doing that. But, the dip in the door is such an identifiable feature of the 49 Mercury, I decided that I wanted to keep it. I want it to look almost stock. But better.
-
Exactly. You will see a difference Tom. You'll also discover areas that your eyes can easily miss. I know I do about every time.
-
It's possible that the Dupli Color over Tamiya primer could be the issue. I always sand the entire body before primer and paint. Primer, nor paint will stick to a surface that is too smooth.
-
If you can do that, you have an adhesion problem. Did you sand the body before primer?

Aluminum wheels question
Plowboy replied to Bob Warfield's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Pegasus makes a set of aluminum sleeves with tires that you can glue the wheel of your choice into. They have a lip that you can fit the wheel behind or in front of. I usually glue them in with future floor polish. Just place the wheel inside the sleeve and wick it in with a small brush. -
Thanx Nigel! I'm just the opposite. I wouldn't give it a second glance. Maybe it's from seeing them around when I was a kid. To me, they were just a big ugly car.

Another 62 Ford
Plowboy replied to dragcarz's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
If you compare them, they're quite different. The white '63 grille I posted is basically a slotted grille with two verticle bars. The aluminum '63 grille is much more complex. -
I've used Dupli Color over Tamiya primer with no chipping problems. Could you post a photo of an example?

WOW!! What a beautiful looking Mercury! This is something you rarely, if ever, see built! I'm always impressed with your scratch building and attention to the little details that make a huge difference. Excellent work Cliff! It's a stunner!

Looks sharp in the Metallic Orange Tom! Don't worry about those decals. They'll still work fine. I built the same kit a few years ago and they worked fine. I think they would look nice on that color!

AMT 62 Ford Texaco Service Truck

That's a nice looking unibody Roger! The gray paint and decals really suits it! Looks like it's ready to go work! -

There was also this grille in '63. I'm guessing it's for the mid year change to the separate wrong year bed. My dad had a '63 flareside with this grille. -

Not true. The grille in the AMT '62 F-100 kit and Roger's model is '62 vintage. The '61 has the FORD letters in the grille like so. The '62 has the slender cross bar in the grille like so. Same grille as in Roger's truck. -
Just got caught up on this project! Don't know how I missed it! I really like how the outside is backdated. But, underneath is a modern chassis. I can't wait to see the finished product!

Thanx to everyone for all of the great comments! I appreciate it! With this one out of the way, I can concentrate on my '96 Impala SS wagon project.

Nice looking Monte Carlo Tom! I really like the Tamiya Light Blue Pearl! I've seen a handful of models painted with it. I'm going to have to get a can and try it on a build.
