Nice looking Monte Carlo Chris! I really like the green on it! It reminds of the old Boyd's Teal Green from years ago. Nice work!

Another 62 Ford
Plowboy replied to dragcarz's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Roger, you should post the finished photos in the Under Glass section for pickups. Not many people are going to see the finished model here. It's a nice looking old truck BTW! -
Dodge Ramcharger

That's a nice looking Ramcharger! That color combo is perfect for it! -
Revell poor quality chrome

You could try hitting it with a Molotow pen. Or, you could paint it body color. -
AMT Subaru Brat
Plowboy replied to cobraman's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
That's a cool looking little Subaru Ray! Very believable. Like something someone would do in their backyard or garage. Does this kit have an engine? I've never had one. -
There's a build thread in the Workbench section. Here's a photo that pretty much explains what I did to it.

Thanx Bill! I really like the Tamiya Pearl Clear! It has a great effect that can't be captured in photos. It works best on lighter colors. In person, it's a little too obvious over this color.

Just finished this one up. It's an old Stevens International issue of the AMT kit. It was a project that I started several years ago and lost interest. Not a lot to it besides the obvious two door conversion. I decided not to add an engine. So, it's just a curbside build. Wheels are from an unknown kit with the kit hubcaps. Tires are the old Good Year hollow Polyglas. Paint is Tamiya TS-1 Red Brown with a coat of pearl and clear. The interior was painted with Tamiya AS-15 Tan. Although the detail and interior are lacking, I think it turned out OK. Something different from my normal for sure! Thanx for checking it out!

This one's almost done! May have it done today. Here's the interior. I didn't do a whole lot to it as I didn’t feel it was worth the effort. No window cranks, faint engraving etc. Here's the body in clear with the wheels and tires. Thanx to those that followed along and helped with photos and comments! Much appreciated!

Thanx Jeff! I think they'll look sinister against the white body and the disc brakes peeking through.

I'm not sure if the entire wheel will be black. But, most of it will be. I have to paint them black first anyway. So, I can then decide how I want to highlight them if at all.

Prepping vintage model car for restoration
Plowboy replied to chicane's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
If they're yellowed from age, there's nothing you can do for it. Just primer with white primer and paint as usual. -
What was the last NEW kit AMT did ?
Plowboy replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Right. MPC is long gone too. But, their logo is still on the box of the reissues. -
Installing Outside Side Mirrors
Plowboy replied to TransAmMike's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I drill a .020 hole in the base of the mirror and glue a piece of. 020 styrene rod into it. Then place a small piece of tape on the door in case I make a slip and drill a .020 hole in it. Remove tape. Then I simply place the mirror onto the door and glue it from the inside. I use Tamiya Extra Thin so that it will wick in around the rod. For a little insurance, I also put a drop of crazy glue on the rod. Allow it to dry and snip off the excess rod. -
Thanx Bill! That's what I wanted to do with it. I didn't want to change the proportions. I just wanted to improve them. To me, there is such a thing as too many modifications. It's like a bad face lift when you can't even recognize the person afterwards.
-
Thanx Nigel! I'm pretty set on doing satin black on everything. That's just how my vision of it is.
-
Thanx Dennis! It's really close to actual. The rear will raise maybe a mm. I may take the front down a touch more.
-
So do I Carl! My wife's Edge is Pearl White with a set of Dub Push wheels and a black grille. My son has a lifted white Explorer with black wheels.

Independent Front and Rear Suspension
Plowboy replied to porschercr's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Corvettes from either one for starters. For hot rods, the AMT Phantom Vickie and Revellogram '37 Ford convertible. The Phantom Vickie doesn't have an IRS. But, it has one of the nicest IFS's there is. -
Thanx! I don't like how the laid down rear window looks. It wrecks the shape of the quarter windows and looks awkward IMO. If it hadn't been for saving me from having to lengthen the roof, I wouldn't have laid the windshield back.

I can't say for sure as I bought them some time ago. Pretty sure they're Aoshima.

Once I post a photo here directly from my tablet, can I delete that photo from my tablet or will the photo here be deleted as well? I'm thinking it won't. But, I want to make sure before I delete them from my tablet.

Very little bench time the last couple of days. But, the little I did get was fairly productive. After studying on the frame a bit, I decided that the best way to shorten the front without messing up the alignment or ride height was to make a simple horizontal cut. After some more precise measuring, I needed to shorten the frame 9 mms instead of 7. Using the top of the frame rails as a guide, I made my mark. Cut it loose. I also had to cut into the suspension cradle. And I had to cut the engine mounts loose to reposition later. Then I simply glued it back together in the new position. Once it's dried well, I'll cut the excess away. The more I look at this setup though, the more I'm thinking about cutting it back off and do a makeover. The wonky angle of the frame rails and A arms surely leave a lot to be desired. It's going to depend on how much of it actually shows when it's all together. But, I'm sure not liking it at the moment. I also got the the planned wheel and tires setup on the suspension and did the first true mockup. I think these wheels will look wicked painted black and against the Pearl White I have planned.

Revell's Chevy Luv rerelease
Plowboy replied to VanSpence's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
This is cool looking little Luv truck! The lowered stance makes all the difference! Is the upside down front bumper intentional or ? -
That's a nice looking '68 Impala! I restored a promo of one years ago and stuck those same wheels on it temporarily. You stated that you used the Pegasus tires on your wheels. I'm assuming the 23s? They do make a difference!
