  1. Really nice looking old Chevy truck! I like the LS engine with the old school covers and colors suits it perfect! Nice work!
  2. David, I think your paint problem is with the paint itself. While I've never used Rustoleum paint. I did give their red oxide primer a try. It was terrible! I sprayed a body with it and after a few days, it was still soft! So, I decided to strip it back off. Once stripped, I discovered that the primer had etched into the styrene! Luckily, it didn’t craze it. But, I swore never again will I use primer that's not formulated for styrene!
  3. Thanx! I would use gold under Candy Apple Red.
  4. That kit is terrible! I actually paid $15 to not have it. Years ago, a member here wanted to trade it for a kit I had for trade. But, he couldn't post photos of it. I told him to send it and if I liked it, I would send my kit. If I didn't, I would send it back and repay his postage. As soon as I saw it in person, the decision was easy. I paid to send it back with $7.50 in the box.
  5. Nice looking Mustang! Revell made a '90 LX coupe that you could convert over to a convertible. Cutting the roof off of that kit would actually be an improvement. It also has the ten hole wheels. It was done as stock/police and later a drag version. Not sure if the drag version has the stock parts.
  6. It does make a difference in my experience. I prefer to spray pearl or mica reds over a silver or gold base. Gold seems to give a little darker, richer color. These photos illustrate the difference between a silver and a gold base coat. The Edsel wagon is over Mica Silver. The Ranchero is over gold. Both are painted with Tamiya Mica Red.
  7. I would recommend spraying the TS-54 over gray primer rather than white. For whatever reason, blue paints seem to want to wick away around panel lines when sprayed over white primer.
  8. That's definitely mice damage. I became very familiar with it once when I stored some models in a room inside my barn. Totally ruined three of them. I saved the fourth as the damage wasn't too bad. The rest became parts donors.
  9. Thanx Tony! I'm a fan of your work as well! As much as I like this model, it still doesn't compare to my '62 F-100.
  10. Thanx Steve! I look forward to seeing that! That Open Road Camper will suit the long wheelbase perfect!
  11. Only if a caster could make them cheap enough that it would be worth it to the builder.
  12. They're molded in on all of them. It would be as simple as cutting it out and a piece of styrene on the back. The new seat would cover the rest.
  13. Neither the AMT or MPC late '60s early '70s Chevy pickups had bench seats. Which is pretty annoying since the bucket seats were quite rare even in the Cheyenne. MPC continued the bucket seats interior all the way up to the '84 GMC and later model Chevies. I'm going to change the buckets out whenever I get around to building the GMC long stepside I have planned.
  14. Nice looking Olds Jim! That color really suits it!
  15. Steve, you mentioned the Blazer grille and I was thinking about it the other day. It has separate lenses and reflectors. But, they have holes that would need to be filled and pins on the lenses that would need to be removed. Does it not fit the MPC or AMT body very well?
  16. To me, it looks perfect. At least to my taste. I suppose you're using an airbrush for the paint?
  17. Excellent weathering and scratch work Jim! I wish I had the eye and talent to do weathering like this! But, it's like a black art to me that just doesn't sink in.
  18. I pull it off as soon as I'm done spraying the second color.
  19. Sounds like you're using too much pressure when you're trimming your foil. It takes very little to cut it. You basically want to slide your blade tip along the trim to cut. It's something that takes practice that you only get by doing it. Trust me. You will get better with each model. No one started out as a pro. We all had to learn. Personally, I don't think there's a better clear coat than Tamiya straight from the can. Especially over Tamiya paint. If you're spraying three coats, that's about as much as you want. However, if you want it thicker, all you have to do is spray an additional coat.
  20. Plowboy

    '76 Pinto

Thanx! That's another area that the MPC kit is better. The filler panels are separate pieces. It also has the splash pans front and rear.
  21. Pegasus makes the Chrome T in 19 and 23 inch. Actual is 18 and 22. The spokes don't have a peak like the JYD's. You can cut the width down easily to what you want. These have painted spokes. But, you can get an idea on the size and shape of the spokes.
  22. That's different for sure! I'm going to have to pay more attention to diecasts.
  23. I thought it was the '50 Chevy? Never bought one. So, not sure.
  24. The only way to get Walt's Bronco is bash an MPC '80s Bronco with an AMT '93 F-150.
  25. Exactly what is it you're making? If you're using sheet styrene, I see no need to miter the corners. I just let the edges stick past and sand them off.
