Very nicely done. I have one of these. Nice to see it goes together well.

Nice models all. The Fairlane is WICKED! -
You definitely captured the authentic look for something that was never kitted. Well done.

Painting bare metal foil
Bills72sj replied to GLMFAA1's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Interesting question. I would tend to think not. I am soon to attempt decals over BMF as I need a silver, chrome underlay on my Rocket 455 air cleaner decal. -
I have been working on all my Pontiacs the week. This one is the odd man out. Earlier I found some seats that were a closer match to the correct upholstery pattern, so I have them prepped. Today I tackled the rear seat. I had this 62 Pontiac rear seat in my parts box which does not have the exact pattern but it is much closer than the kit seat. An hour of hacking and filing has it fitting pretty good. I also finally decided on the interior color(s). White seats and door panels with black carpet, dash and package shelf. Officially known as Parchment and Black.

Gee, I would find this just as I finished installing the plug wires on my Rocket 455.

Finished up the consoles for the 65s. They turned out better than could have hoped. The spray on chrome is nice (and durable), the real wood inserts came out ok and the shifters look natural. Too bad they will be hard to see in the finished product.

Since I am about to assemble the engines for my Pontiacs, I figured I would try to get my Rocket 455 put together as well. I detail painted everything so assembly begins. I will try to accompany as many the bits as I can to simulate a smog era engine compartment.

Has anyone tried this in their 70's?
Bills72sj replied to landman's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Myself, I am inspired by his 68 Coronet. I may never obtain enough skills to get to that level but I think 80% is possible. I just wish I had more bench time. -
Thanks Gareth. I wanted a pretty Turquoise. This was slightly darker than I wanted but it is still pretty. Robert. Me too, though I do not remember seeing very many growing up. I was born is 61.

3D printers - is it worth it?
Bills72sj replied to customline's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I would love to jump into 3D rendering and printing. I have the attention to detail and enough computer savvy to hit the ground running. I have the cash too but alas, I have too small of a house with no basement to set up a printer. Heck, I do not have a space for a dehydrator (though my wife has one for food in the main bathroom). Nonetheless, I have PLENTY of kits to build to last a lifetime without one. As more guys get printers, I will likely get to the point where I will make files and contract someone else to print them for me. I have purchased a number of 3D printed items and have generally been pleased with the results. -
I have built models of one of my cars and two of my best friends cars (both of which I had driven a number of times). 1st up, my first Grand Prix circa 1983-84. Models: Modified Johnny Lightning, 1972 MPC annual and all wood replica commissioned by my best friend. 2nd up, a good friend in HS 1970 SS 396 4-speed. The only thing I did not do was the black vinyl top. 3rd up. my BFF in the Navy Jeff's 1970 R/T SE (built up) 383 Magnum 4-speed.

Looks great, cannot wait to see it in color. -
Save on sandpaper AND have precise control.
Bills72sj replied to Bills72sj's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Thanks, If I am going to cut on some sandpaper anyways, I just make a dozen or so squares and tuck them in a little ziplock baggy. At the rate I build, one sheet will last me years. -

AMT White-Freightliner Window Mods
Bills72sj replied to Chevy II's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
If you are wanting open side windows, I would just cut the windshield section out from the whole thing. After that, you will have plenty of material for numerous attempts at wing windows. Or.... You can make wing windows from any clear plastic packages that can be intercepted from your household trash. -
Nice build, nice color, following.

1977 Olds Cutlass from 3D print from Too Many Projects
Bills72sj replied to carl63_99's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Glad to see you on this again. Nice chrome on the bumpers. I shot my very 1st chrome today on my Big Girl Pontiacs. My 74 H/O is still on the bench. All I have left is engine assembly and front wheels. -
I am pretty sure I saw it at a drive-in too in the 70's my Dad was a car guy. We did the Drive in frequently as it is cheap entertainment when you have 4 kids. I have seen it on TV a few times since. Gotta love that Charger.
