2022: My year in styrene: 10 creations...
Bills72sj replied to Claude Thibodeau's topic in Model Cars
Very impressive group of unique builds. The finish on your paint jobs is amazing. The streamliner is gorgeous and the wood grain on the BHE is way cool. -
I used to subscribe to 5-7 car magazines. Due to many of them going out of business, I am down to two. Consequently, I have pulled open my archives and am rereading them nearly 40 years later. This is the one I have been perusing the last couple of days.

What they all said. Looks great!

1967 Pontiac Catalina
Bills72sj replied to jphillips1970's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
AMT's 65 Pontiac 2+2 is supposed to be a Catalina but they repurposed the 65 Bonneville which has a longer wheelbase. I have never run across a 67 Pontiac except GTO's and rare MPC Firebirds which had wing windows. -
The Official EBay Discussion Thread

As much as that sounds like a noble idea, I doubt the moderators want to get into monitoring the morality police. I suspect a whole lotta complaining would ensue. -
were these models ever produced

I have finally got a resin 77 Pontiac Can Am. Nothing else close to the other two. -
Thanks for the heads up. I will leave it sealed up for now as I have dozens of projects ahead of it.

Stopped my Salem HL today because it is kit restock day. Pretty full shelves except for the empty 71 Cutlass shelf. Picked up the GMC Astro semi for less than $24 all in thanks to 40% off. Not bad for a semi truck kit.

Hmmm... I will have to look around to see if I have any.

Nice little "Trucklet", well done. -
Nice work! You are not planning to use the paint-scratching hood clip are you?

Thanks Steve. I actually have some of the Testors "wood" paint. Since I actually have real wood, I am going to experiment with a bit of brown wash and clear coat to see if I can make my real wood LOOK like real wood.

Steve, Thank you for sharing this example. I am hoping to get my interiors to look half as good as yours.

Cell phone cameras...what do you use & why?
Bills72sj replied to thatz4u's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I have an iPhone 11. It works better than my wifes old 2.4 Megapixel camera. I transfer pics from it to my PC, crop and balance them and then post them. Really good resolution too. -
Cut the last of the I-beam pieces to make the 3rd console. (My prototype was too short). The depth and width of the top looked like a popsicle stick would fit. Turns out with a little sanding it does. Now I can actually have genuine wood veneer to replicate the real wood veneer Pontiac used on the GP and Bonneville. The 2+2 will be matt black. I am still praying someone (or two) have unused custom grilles to help me create the other two shifter surrounds.

That is quite a stunning build. I would love to have it in my display case. I would even build a trailer for it.

I did some research online to find that all three of the 65 consoles are a poor excuse of an automatic transmission console. They sit too low, do not have the proper amount of forward drop and do not have enough material to reach/attach to the bottom of the dash. Besides I am going all 4-speeds which means they are all wrong to begin with. I have started to fabricate new consoles from some styrene I-beam. I am going to create the shifter porch/surround from unused Bonneville custom grille(s). Below is a rough mock up of where I am headed. I just need two more custom grilles to cut up.

Unless there is difference in the front fenders I am missing, I would not anticipate it would be too difficult to simply add in the hood, revised grille, tail panel, B-pillar and bench seat on a separate sprue. It would be up to the builder to add in these pieces. The standard 383 in the Super Bee is visually similar to the R/T's 440. Either of them could get a 426 Hemi. The Super Bee came with a Charger dash which I imagine are plenty around even if the kit does not come with one.
