2019- Rough year of life, good year on the bench
LL3 Model Worx replied to Kmb0319's topic in Model Cars
Thems some good lookin models. I particularly like the white mustang and the chevelle! I sincerely hope you can leave your troubles in the rearview as we roll into 2020...I know how rough life can be sometimes. I always think of the Beatles/Joe Cocker.... "I'll get by with a little help from my friends"... it's TRUE and you will. Thanks for letting me see your work! -
Nice builds... the Monte really speaks to me.

IMC/Lindberg Cougar II Glue Bomb Rescue (Attempt)
LL3 Model Worx replied to Snake45's topic in Model Cars
Naw, the lighter fluid definitely works for decals in my experience. I believe the slot car guys use it to remove the 3M spray adhesive as well....that may be where I first saw it used that way. -
Yea 650 is certainly plenty on the street... I'm glad to see you have a quality rotating assembly and more importantly a quality builders work in there... heck I've seen 20k worth of motor not withstand 700hp and I've seen 5k worth of motor take over a 1400hp... the builder can make all the difference sometimes. Cool ride! And be as safe as possible in it! As we both know far too many of us go to glory too soon over far too little. I live right at the US129 "the dragon" and see far too many folks go too soon.

Very nice models... love that Chevelle!

Very nice builds... And that Evo is on how many PSI? Gotta be a few for them kinda pony's at the wheels... That the 2.0? I'm not super familiar with the Mitsubishi stuff.

Not my favorite body style of vette I like the 63-7 myself, but this is some fine craftsmanship. Really love the sheen of the paint... looks very realistic and not "candy dipped" as I personally dislike that on a model because it looks unrealistic to my eyes, especially on older cars. You nailed the sheen! Thanks for letting me see it!
-
Thanks Dann, that's a color I'm going to have to acquire.

I fully understand... Prep that body up real good, wet sanding through to at least 4000 (preferably higher, I do thru 12000) Just make sure you test spray on scrap first and warm your cans very well. A few mist coats and let that tack up for a few minutes then apply 1-2 wet coats and be done...just walk away...(hardest thing for me) If you have to do a little wet sanding and buffing, that's not necessarily a bad thing. I typically paint my body first, that way it has plenty of time to dry/harden while I'm building the rest of the kit... keeps me from stalling out and losing interest playing the waiting game. Don't be too nervous about it... worst case it goes in the drink and you try again. Its gonna turn out good, go for it!

I've experienced the "wrong stuff, right can" before hahaha. Recently at work a spray bottle of degreaser, I use it to learn it had been replaced with WD-40... not a fun time... A can of mineral spirits goes a long way for thinning enamels for brush painting/cleaning though...about $13 bucks a gallon vs $4 for 1.75oz. Testors $2.28/ oz. Klean strip or equivalent/ about 11 cents an ounce. But then again I do have many bottles of testors thinner I've acquired over the years. And its always good to support the hobby. When we gonna get some color on that body?

Haha do what you gotta do....!

Coming along very nicely Logan, really looking good! The Model Master enamels are pretty much all I use for both body and detail painting. I can certainly remember being a kid and globbing it on and it being a gloopy mess... never dried etc... thinning and painting in thin coats allows the solvents to gas out more quickly because the layer is thinner so there is shorter distance the solvents have to travel to escape and thus "cure" the enamel. I personally use Klean Strip brand lacquer thinner to thin the enamels and they flash out MUCH quicker... I can usually handle a part within an hour or so if I'm careful. Regular ol mineral spirits or "odorless paint thinner" works well also and is MUCH cheaper than a bottle of Testors brand thinner, which imo is highway robbery. The spirits just will not dry as quick as the lacquer thinner. Happy modeling, I'm enjoying watching this take shape.

You don't wanna pay for this cheese Steve... you really don't. But I'm sure you have and will make plenty... lol!!!

Past Projects in 1:1 scale

Yea mine was originally the silver with Carmine red interior... When I got the car it had already been put in grey primer while my buddy still owned it. If I'd had it my way it would have remained factory color and interior and just got the drivetrain and suspension work... so I was intending on painting it (had already mixed the paint) Dimension Mettalic garnet red... with sheet aluminum interior.... as buying factory stuff was way too expensive and almost never fits right without rattling later... Now I've still gotta lot of work to do and money to spend sadly.... until then she will wait in the garage. -
I could give you a killer Fumunda tutorial... Get on some Dickies work pants, come with me to work and run in circles and climb up and down all day long in 95°+.... You shall learn how to make cheese very quickly.

A gimpy leg

Yea sadly that's not ever really my intention... I guess my sense of humor doesn't really "fit in" Post a pic of Springsteen "the boss" as a clear joke... then just reply with a brief explanation of why I don't really like the guy or his music whilst also mentioning his marketing brilliance... Then BOOM! It death spirals into a political diatribe against the dude... I couldn't care less about anyone's politics... including my own they change like the weather. Serves me right I suppose lol!

Good god I've created yet another monster.... I guess trying to have a laugh is hard to do these days without starting a dumpster fire.

All your work is cool but that trike is too cool.... that would be a terrifying ride for sure!! Kinda like one of those barstool racers with a GSXR motor on it, NUTS!! The T bucket is pretty sweet, but is that a small block Ford with a rear mounted distributor a la Chevrolet? Kinda bizarre... but oh well still a sweet build I'd be proud to drive!

If its anything like my Chrysler 300/ Dodge Daytona "hybrid" its gonna be a doozy... and a year is a good thing! I have shelved mine for the time being... until I can decide how I want to proceed after running into a few major issues that have no obvious solution. -
IMC/Lindberg Cougar II Glue Bomb Rescue (Attempt)
LL3 Model Worx replied to Snake45's topic in Model Cars
No problem. I've used it to take decals off surfaces painted with enamel... and it hasn't had any negative effect. I just spray it on and the wipe it off real fast and usually pulls decals right off. If it doesn't just dissolve them immediately. But yea, in any case test first lol. -

Nice rescue Snake. Have you ever tried lighter fluid to take off old decals? It has worked for me before... maybe give it a try if you have some stubborn ones. As always... test on junk first as I'm certain all lighter fluids aren't created equal. Mine is Zippo branded. -
Very cool! I know what I still have a few of my dads in need of some tlc... Way to go.

The Lone-ranger too!
