2025 Cannonball Run - 50 years since the 1975 run.
Mattilacken replied to Mattilacken's topic in Community Builds
This year I will be racing with a 1974/75 Laguna. The idea is similar to what the two guys did in the cannonball movie, take a Stockcar which initially in the movie is a 1975 Laguna S5 which after being sunk in the pool gets replaced with a 76 Monte Carlo. Plan at the moment, may change since I have the files to print a ‘73 Laguna, is to take a nascar chassis with the Laguna body. Underneath equip it with a potent small block Chevy to keep hp up but fuel consumption down, and ad extra fuel tanks to be able to challenge. Might print interior, or not. -
Welcome Cannonballers to the 18th Annual Cannonball Run Community build! The Cannonball Run Community is proud to present this year’s Cannonball Run theme: 1975 CBR – 50 years anniversary! Back in 1975 the third Cannonball run was held, ant the winner did it in 35Hours and 53 Minutes. To honor the women and men that ran back then we will do it on similar terms, a pre 1975 race. Since we want as many builders as possible to participate, the rules will be quite open. Vehicle Rules for 2025 CBR: - All cars, trucks and SUVs before 1975 are allowed. Race cars as well as street cars are eligible. - Anny condition is allowed as long as it would “make the trip” (papier mâché and chicken wire is no good). - All modifications to the chassis, external or interior of the cars are okay if it’s based on materials and style found in 1975. - Carbon fiber is not allowed since it wasn’t available in 1975. - All cars must have lights, driving lights and brake lights. - License plate(s) is mandatory. It has to be “registered” somewhere in the world, why not India or Japan as in the movie. - All engines available in 1975 and before are allowed. - Engine swaps are allowed if it complies with the 1975 rule. - All Speed parts available before 1975 are allowed. - Turbos and other power adders are allowed if they have no modern EFI or similar, refer to the 1975 rule. - Wheels should resemble what could be found 1975 and earlier but can be larger in diameter and width. - Tires are free as long as they are street legal. - And please feel free to prep the cars so they can drive nonstop in those 35h 53min or less! Race Guidelines 1. The build can be either a new or started kit up to 25% complete. A re-builder or parts box special is acceptable. 1/24 or 1/25. If you absolutely must do a 1/20 model we’ll likely bend the rules as we have before, but that’s the limit. EXCEPTION TO RULE 1. If you have a previously started racer from a previous running of the Cannonball (SA or MCM) 50% complete or less, they are eligible to run this year as long as they meet the theme requirement. All of our previous runs are still available on either of the two forums. If you are going to do this, please be certain it was involved in a previous run. We will continue to implement this rule each year, as the goal of this CBP was always to get people building and finishing models. 2. Before starting please post a photo of your kit(s) or pile o’ parts. No limitation on type of vehicle or technology used. 3. If for any reason you plan a build and wish to declare another entry in place of, you may do so at any time prior to the 48hrs. deadline. (please see important dates below) 4. Have fun! That’s it for rules. The following is just FYI: -You may start a separate build thread for your build if you wish, but please keep the CBR thread updated. -Build time begins on 12:00AM January 1st, 2025, local time and ends at 11:59PM on December 1st, 2025, local time. That’s a total of eleven months! -After the finish, we will create a poll and we’ll have the “race”: a public vote. -The finished builds thread will begin on November 14th so that you may post your completed vehicles. The final voting poll will based from this thread. Good quality photos are essential to best showcase your hard work. No one has won this with poor photos in poor lighting. -You may build as many models as you wish for this CBR, but only one can be entered in the finished builds thread and public voting poll prior to December 3rd. -You can enter this CBR at any time up to 48 hours before the end date of December 1st. Important Dates: 2025 January 1st, 12:00am: Official build start of the 2025 Cannonball Run November 14th: Finished build thread opens November 29th, 11:59pm: Last day to enter the CBR build December 1st, 11:59pm: Official build end December 3rd: Polling to elect a winner opens December 13th, 11.59pm: Polling closes December 15th: 2025 Winner announced Let’s Race!

Sad thing is that many things still go the same way not just in the SAME WAY And most our junk is being dug down or left in the open in many places in the world. At least allot of metal things get melted and re used now days. Many cars that we today say are cool had the same fate as the beetle above.. Wonder what cars from today that aplies to. -
Thanks allot David! Yes its a complete overhaul! I did a quick sum up of stock Impala parts used and it ended up with: Glass, Body, hood, lights, door cards, dash and rear seat. and thats it! I am now wetsanding the paint since i got a bunch of pin holes in the paint.

I believe we have come to a consensus when five have come up with more or less the same idea with variations. How does this sound? All cars before 1975 are allowed. All engines available 1975 and before are allowed. Poweradders, turbos and superchargers available 1975 and earlier are ok as long as no EFI with modern computer tuning. Wheels should resemble 1975 and earlier but can be larger in diameter and width. Tires are free if they are street legal. I tag everyone active in 2024 below. @slusher @Wagonmaster110 @White Rabbit @stitchdup @W-409 @KWT @Beans @oldcarfan @NOBLNG @Lunajammer @Spottedlaurel @disconovaman @Jantrix @Can-Con @Fat Brian @Tim08 @MeatMan @Keef @53gmc @Pat Minarick @Westrods @atomicholiday @Camaro lover @kermn8r @avidinha @Bills72sj @tooltime-fan @xbazzarex @JimmyRiggins @blue303 -

Sweet scratch building as always! Will look good when done! I have gotten so picky so i print tons of stuff since i dont have your patiense and maybe time since i have to small kids running around at home -
Thanks! the carpet is a wet tissue that i washed and cut in to shape and after gluing it down with white glue i painted it. Made more sense to me to do it that way since i had a race car floor that would cover strangly with flocking. I some times get to much shadow i can see with my detail painting but to the naked eye it looks good. Yes its a current project: Impala SS 1996 Pro Street 4 seater - Page 4 - WIP: Model Cars - Model Cars Magazine Forum BTW, check it out, i have done allot of wiering and plumbing but lots that I still want to do. And i just made decals for cage inspection as well as new decals for the harnesess Thanks, Anton

Here is a inspiration for you all! Louie Mattars Non stop tripp from Los-angeles to New York and back in 1952! No speed reckords was probobly sett but he did not stop, not even for a flat tire! Found out about him in a Swedish automotive magazine where they did a 7 page feature of him, his Cadillac and his escapades! Here is an other article in english: More than 70 years ago, Louie Mattar drove 6320 miles non-stop in his fantastic perpetual motion machine - Hagerty Media Here is the article in swedish, should be able to read with google translate on your phone. Or just look at the pics. Non-stopp genom usa louie mattars fantastiska cadillac - 28 Mar 2024 - Wheels Magazine - Readly -

2025 Cannonball Run theme ideas thread?
Mattilacken replied to Mattilacken's topic in Community Builds
I have an Idea that anything availible in 1975, new or used is allowed. Same goes for engine and other mods. But if it has been done in 1975 in any cattegory say turbos, porsche had OEM turbos in 1974, so anything tubo is good, but LS came in 1997 and would not been around so no LS swaps. But nascar engines of any year as long as its not modern EFI would be good. And the thing i would say is ok is say wheels, if you want to go larger diameter and modern tires do so. Whats your thoughts on that? -
Hi all! So in just 13 days the 2025 CBR is on! So we need to pick a theme quickly! It is 50years since the 1975 edition of Cannonball Run ran, so its an aniversary for sure! So bring som ideas that will give many buildes options in building!

2024 Cannonball Run Restomods Build Thread
Mattilacken replied to White Rabbit's topic in Community Builds
Hi all! Thanks for all the congratulations! And first of all, thanks Enzo for the last 2 years! It has been fun to build along! I have spoken to Enzo and I will make the 2025 CBR hapen, its 50 years since the run in 1975 so its an aniversary! I will do so of course if its fine with everybody else! I will start the suggestion thread for topic now and then we decide probably with a pol if there isn’t a clear winner in the thread. Hope to see all of you participating and hopefully more since it’s a 50th anniversary CBR! And remember! We love to se as many as possible to reach the finish line, but just as in the real CBR things happen. And suddenly you have that deer standing in the middle of the road and staring into your headlights and you suddenly find yourself stranded in a ditch which makes you miss the Finnish. But its not just about finishing, it’s about the journey! So, I really hope all of you can take part of this anniversary CBR! Best regards Anton
