What did you see on the road today?
Spottedlaurel replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Something I don't think I've ever seen before: 1960 Edsel Ranger by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr 1960 Edsel Ranger by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr Had a '65-ish Mustang following me the other day when I was driving one of my old Datsuns. Wouldn't have been so unusual for the weekend, but this was in the day, midweek. Also a couple of Jaguars: 1954 Jaguar XK120 by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr 1977 Jaguar XJ6 4.2 Coupe by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr -
That's excellent, really nicely built with a little bit of lateral thinking and the finished result looks great.

Aoshima 1:24 Toyota Ipsum (Picnic) S-Package by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr Had it in the stash for a while, started it this summer and WIP thread here: Badged as Ipsum in Japan, sold as Picnic here in the UK and Europe. I built mine with the one-off Toyota GB Picnic Sport as its loose inspiration. 1:24 Aoshima Toyota Ipsum kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr 1:24 Aoshima Toyota Ipsum kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr 1:24 Aoshima Toyota Ipsum kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr 1:24 Aoshima Toyota Ipsum kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr Painted with Tamiya TS Pearl Green and Champagne spray cans, my first two-tone paintjob - if I've achieved nothing else with this kit then I'm happy with how that turned out. Suspension lowered, front spoiler deepened, Tamiya Mazda RX7 wheels with Fujimi tyres, Fujimi front brake discs, kit-supplied front discs moved to rear, added an accessory steering wheel from another Aoshima kit and interior painted in a caramel and brown scheme inspired by my 1:1 Lexus LS400. No engine to upgrade, I can pretend it has Celica GT4 running gear as it is a 4wd version (the driveshaft and rear diff are included). I think the UK 1:1 had an MR2 Turbo engine and retained its FWD layout. Glass is a bit of a disappointment - leaving aside my odd fingerprint, it has a rather hazy look to it which isn't caused by glue fogging. Also, I was slightly heavy-handed in painting some of the black on the inside (that's a job I dislike) but the exterior trim worked out OK following copious use of BMF for masking. I thought this Fujimi accessory set would suit it well: 1:24 Aoshima Toyota Ipsum kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr 1:24 Aoshima Toyota Ipsum kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr 1:24 Aoshima Toyota Ipsum kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr The photo-etch wheel spokes were incredibly delicate, but they do look effective when fitted. Overall, I'm pleased but not overwhelmed with how it turned out. Happy to do a half-decent job with the two-tone paintwork, even if I had to respray the green after I polished through it first time around. I should have tried to get it a bit lower, and the rear wheels need to be tucked into the arches a little more. Thanks for looking.

I've seen these for sale once or twice, great to see one built - you've done a really nice job on it. Interesting to think that it's the original ancestor to everything we drive and build today.

Very nice. I enjoyed seeing it come thogether and the finished result looks excellent. Good choice on the colour. I don't recall seeing those German models with the coloured arches before - I prefer the black plastic ones.

Down The Merry Path - How These Things Just Happen!

Great finished result, and really interesting to read and see the process that led to it. -
Not my favourite generation of Supra, but it wasn't much money for a well-detailed kit with an engine (which could go into something else?): First set of MRC accessory wheels I've acquired: I lost out on a bid on a set of Cragars, but I have some similar wheels to those and the Keystones were the ones I was particularly keen to get hold of. Might try some different tyres on them as the Firsetones look rather square. Already got a project in mind for them.

Good to see you back on this one again. The VHT paint gives a great effect.

1965 Pontiac Grand Prix, Grand Slam.
Spottedlaurel replied to doorsovdoon's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Maybe worth trying it with the clear on something else first? Just in case it's some incompatibility, and not the fly spray...... -
Sorry to read this Carl. You were a friendly voice when I joined here recently. Quite understandable that you have other things to concentrate on, but do keep dropping in if/when you need a distraction from other things in your life. To a greater or lesser extent I'm sure that's why many of us are involved in this hobby.

Ah yes, I forgot about the wheel etc that comes with it. Quite a strange assortment of extras with this kit.... -

What's the bottle thing?! Is that an extra set of gauges? -
Great to see one built, it's turned out nicely. The final fitting issue you had sounds similar to that I had with the Tamiya Audi Quattro, which I think dates from a similar time. I ended up having to shave plastic off the inside of the bodyshell and various interior pieces - always a bit nerve-wracking when everything's painted...... These kits go for good money here in the UK and I haven't been able to get one at a reasonable price yet.

Wonderful! You have every right to be very proud of it. The overall look is great, it's a very attractive car and the colour is great, but it's also the glimpse of the details and remembering your hard work on them - it really has paid off. -

Looks great! Excellent to see one built, you've done a great job on it. I'm with Geoff on the decals though, partly why my version hasn't been started yet....... -
That looks excellent, you must be really pleased with it.

Stunning combinations. Another vote for the Firebird, it looks fantastic! -

Lots of scope for racing versions too, which they like to offer. Amazing to think the Tamiya version is 31 years old! -
Nice work. The interior is that bit more obvious on a convertible and what you've achieved there has paid off. As I know from recently building a '65, the bodywork on these C2s is rather challenging even without being experimental.......
-
Very nice, as always. Your BMF work inside the window openings looks as neat as the outside. Good call doing around the front and rear lights. At 1:25 scale just making it look like you have something there is all it needs.

At least they didn't try and squeeze it all into a standard-size box...... Looks like a good start, the trial-fitting will be well worthwhile. -
Very smooth, it looks great.

Aoshima Nissan Cedric Hardtop (330)
Spottedlaurel replied to Spottedlaurel's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Thanks everyone, I'm hoping to make some more progress on it today. A large portion of my stash consists of stuff like this, it's what I've lived and breathed at 1:1 for the last 25-30 years. The 1980 Datsun Laurel I have now is slightly smaller than the Cedric, and uses a similar straight-six engine. I have owned several examples of a later Cedric (badged as 300C here in the UK) and I have kits of that generation to build someday. I don't know why, but I've always preferred 'normal' cars to sporty stuff.
