  1. Looks like a few projects I've brought back from the scrap pile! Lots of times repro sheet metal doesn't have the same compound curves, bows, etc as OEM stuff, so I can certainly applaud his effort to save as much original metal as possible. I'll be following this, thanks for posting it!
  2. This '29 Model A Pickup. I was 12 & used the truck to haul stuff around the property. Thought I was hot stuff getting paid to drive at 12! When I turned 16 I took my driver's test in a '55 Ford Tudor that I had bought. The examiner was amazed that a 16 yr old kid in the 90s knew how to handle column shift!
  3. I've been into 55& 56 Fords for years. This was the first real show I've been to in a while, unfortunately seems like the shows are looking more like used car lots than the actual good stuff. Just my opinion!
  4. I mostly stick with Ford products, 53-67 Corvettes, 50s & 60s cars and trucks of all makes, any station wagon, Model A Fords both stock & modified. Have been dipping my toes into the heavy truck kits lately as well.
  5. Looks great! Did those valve covers come with the kit?
  6. I'm still going to buy one regardless . I'll likely fill the insert and change the firewall around. That firewall just kills the looks. They should've left the cowl band off and not molded it onto the body. Of course the Monogram kit has the same issue with the firewall.
  7. Like others have said, they sure messed up on that body. In addition to the firewall and wrong top insert, the visor is too long. The Monogram coupe body has it's shortcomings as well, but they pale in comparison to the Revell body.
  8. I haven't tried the sprays, but recently tried some Revell acrylic paint in the little square pots and am very pleased with them. I'll have to grab some of the spray next time I'm at the LHS.
  9. For me it's the '56 Ford, especially the hardtop. Of course I'm biased as I've owned/own a bunch of them over the years....
  10. Looks like Model Roundup is taking preorders.... $59.90 for the kit.
  11. Nice build! You don't see many of these 1/16 Model A kits built anymore. I wish Minicraft would reissue the whole series!
  12. IMO, early is anything with babbitt and 21 studs, but I see what you're getting at. There are tons of engines from the period that use similar construction.
  13. Looks like a run of the mill late 40s engine. Not sure that constitutes "early".
  14. Nice collection and photos! That's the 2nd midyear Corvette cutaway display I've seen now. Very interesting!
  15. I build aircraft & space in addition to cars. This one had been on my list for a good while. Glad to have finally found one. Excellent service from HobbyLink Japan. In theory you can assemble it right from the box without painting due to the multi colored sprues, but I'll end up painting & detailing it.
  16. I need to visit that museum! I grew up around Model T's & A's and still have a couple of Model A projects I need to do something with. Here's an '11 I built for a customer several years ago and a '24 chassis and I built and did the paint & body work on.
  17. I think you'll find Ford used Ash, Birch, Maple and Fir in Ford bodies. I've re-wooded many early Ford bodies and have never ran across oak. Most of this wood came from Ford's own forests on the UP of Michigan.
  18. Why keep going back to a place you don't like the people at? I quit going to the FSM forum when it turned more into a senior day care place then a model forum. One guy just posting thread after thread of mindless rambling. The quality of the posters here is 100X better.
  19. Dash cam caught a '55 Chev in Daytona Beach the other day.
  20. Give it a year and you probably won't have to worry about a print edition of FSM. The last issue I looked was almost embarrassing as to how thin it was, certainly not worth the cover price. I saved all sorts of magazines from 1:1 car club magazines, modeling magazines (including FSM) for years. After a couple moves I realized what a hassle and fire hazard they were. I gave away stacks of magazines to anyone that wanted them. I did a similar thing with binders full of paint chip books from my years in the automotive paint & body field. I kept a few of the old ones for my personal collection, but the rest went on ebay and what didn't sell I gave away. Now the couple of magazines I subscribe to go straight to my tablet and they don't take up any room!
  21. I've never had a problem with any of the products I listed. If I had I wouldn't have recommend them. There are many others here who use Dupli color regularly. I can't comment on hpi guy, I've watched a few of his videos, but not really a fan of his work.
  22. That thread doesn't indicate who makes the paint for Revell since you say it's no longer relabeled Humbrol. I'm curious. This is all new ground for me. I'm still using bottles of Floquil I bought 30+ yrs ago! LOL
  23. My apologies. I will do more research before trying to be helpful. Thanks.
  24. I'd love to find a couple of the '62 Ford Galaxie kits. I don't know the history of the molds, but I wouldn't complain if it got reissued. I had a '62 390/375hp 4spd convertible back in the 90s and it's the one car I regret getting rid of. The fun of driving it far outweighed the poor fuel mileage.
