Beans replied to Vince311's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Might mean solder balls. small spheres of solder used for circuit boards and such I think. -

This is totally just my opinion and nothing more. It does look in scale. It looks a little too shiny at least for that application. I could definitely see in under the hood, on either side of the firewall, or in the engine bay, or even as a headliner. It seems a little much for the entire floor. Just my thoughts. Floor mats would definitely break it up some. -

Thank you. I think I enjoy doing interiors more than overall bodies. They sure are. Worked pretty well overall. Better than fighting with the PE parts. -

Thank you. I already gave up on the fuel lines. HA! I avoid ship models of any kind for that exact reason. I have a wooden sailing ship kit around here somewhere that never made it past basic hull assembly. -

It took every bit of patience I could muster but I finally got the wiring done. Now to determine if I want to punish myself even more and do fuel lines.......... -
Yeah, it took a lot of little stamping. I don't have the patience to do it again. I think I actually made a long thin round strip of putty and made the weld as a totally separate piece because I was just adding a welded seam to a flat part and not adding the patch. I like the way yours came out. The patch is cool and authentic.

Had an hour to kill and wandered around hobby lobby. Found these that I hadn't seen before. The containers are pretty big so unless you are doing a lot of interiors with the same color...
-
Very nice patching. I tried to do this only once. Used a very small hole punch at an angle to make the weld lines. It worked pretty well to keep the round pattern.

Thank you. It's masking tape put on in a wrinkled way then painted and dry brushed. I coated the masking tape with some white glue to keep it from coming off. When I used masking tape in the past it would eventually peel up. We will see if it happens again. I really need to get back on this project.

Chassis well onta way to completion. Not sure if I want to weather it a little just to give it that driven a bit look. I hate this part of engine building but for some reason always feel it necessary. -

My condolences on this tragic event. Evidently your pets were not impressed. -

What resin do you use? I really need to get my 3D printer back up and running. -

How opaque are the Tamiya pearl lacquers?

I tried blue over a black base once and it just made a darker black. I only did two coats of the blue before I changed my mind on it. Don't know what I was expecting but it didn't seem to do much at all. -

Everybody is cruising right along.... Still waiting on some aftermarket parts to come in the mail but I got most of the engine done. Thought about an engine swap but that Grand sport engine looks too good. -
Wonder if electrical tape over the wire wrap would work. (Thinking out loud)

That does look pretty good. I may have to just get some and see. Sometimes there is only one way to find out. -
Been rebuilding my 69 F250 1:1 for a while now. If anybody needs pictures or measurements on anything let me know. I built one up using the 1970 F100 base (this kit hadn't come out)

My inspiration comes from a couple main places and is why most of what I build fits into just a few categories: 1. Cars I have owned in my life. 2. Mustangs - I have had a thing for Ford Mustangs for a while. I mostly build different variants and then Mustangs from movies and TV and so on. 3. TV - I got into the TV show Supernatural a while back. It is kinds cheesy and cooky but what I liked was that each character had a specific vehicle that kind of fit their personality and a lot of them were just cool cars. I started building the cars from the show. They each require a decent amount of customization so it is never a straight build. I kind of like to grab onto a theme and beat that theme to death.

Did you ever try these out? I don't know if I want to jump and pay the cost if it is just a 3D looking picture on a standard flat decal. -

While going down a rabbit hole of vehicle requirements for 1975 (to see if I needed bumpers to be road legal) I came across this, which was evidently a new requirement for 1975: Brakes All vehicles, except motorcycles, must have brakes that can stop and hold the vehicle, and that are effective on at least two wheels. Now I was young back in the 70s but still don't remember cars driving around with brakes on only 1 wheel.
