Very sorry to hear of your loss, Carl. Cancer is a horrible disease. It took my father at 71.

That looks amazing! Sign me up for the "regular lessons" when you're ready. I am in awe of your work. Those hubs are amazing, the frame, suspension, wheels, everything! I would love to hear more about your technique if you wouldn't mind sharing. I haven't tried weathering yet, but it's something I would like to learn & develop a skill for. Your level of work is most definitely something to aspire to. -
Looks great. Awesome stance. Nice job.

That turned out great. Love the paint. I have the '54 Chevy Highboy version of this kit on display in my cabinet. I always wondered why it was molded in that metallic blue. The box is dated 1970. After seeing your excellent build I may end up building mine one day. Thanks for sharing!

Very nice build! I need to get a bronco kit. And kick myself again for selling my 1:1 '76 Bronco about 9 years ago. -
It's a good looking Torino, and the diorama is very cool.

Paint Booths & Safe Ventilation?
Kromolly replied to Synister's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
I own several compressors, from a two-stage 80-gallon industrial in my shop down to a portable. The point of this setup is to be quiet enough use it in the house with the small diaphragm compressor. I never thought this post would turn into a discussion of my air supply, although I did bring it up. My intent really was to share my inexpensive "paint booth" concept for venting fumes out of the house when painting indoors... fantastic for winter. My wife says she can't even smell the paint, and I've been spraying with rattle cans today. Mission accomplished! -
What Glue are you using??
Kromolly replied to FLHCAHZ's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
x2 on white glue or "canopy glue" for clear parts. I've been away from the hobby for 25 years myself and now trying to relearn based on the current products available. Kits I built 25+ years ago using canopy glue for clear parts have held up well through display, storage, moving, etc. When I got back into the hobby for a short time 25ish years ago in my 30s, I hadn't built any kits since I was a kid. I started off with what I knew, including the orange tube glue. It took several kits and a lot of reading magazines (not much internet in 1995) and talking to guys in the hobby store to figure out how to improve my techniques with better products. That said, I am in awe of some of what I see on this forum. -
Incredible clean build. It looks like a real car in most of those pictures. Well done!

Paint Booths & Safe Ventilation?
Kromolly replied to Synister's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Not more than 30-35 PSI coming out of that little diaphragm compressor. That thick-walled PVC is more than capable of that pressure. I wouldn't consider that for 125-150 PSI from a "real" compressor. -
Paint Booths & Safe Ventilation?

After researching, reading reviews and weighing my options, I decided to build my own spray booth. It is a work in progress now, I'm still waiting on a few parts and supplies. I need to mount the regulator and install a plexiglass door at the top angled section, add lights, a fan switch, and miscellaneous finishing touches. But right now it is operational. I built it to be a self-contained unit with the compressor in the bottom and a storage shelf for air brushes and supplies in the center. The plywood was free scrap from a cabinet shop down the street from work. The exhaust fan is a JennAir unit I removed a few years ago when I remodeled my kitchen. I nearly tossed it a couple of times but being a packrat I couldn't do it. It was a gunked-up mess and took a lot of cleaning and a couple of days soaking in the solvent tank. I built the plenum out of a couple of thicknesses of plywood and the filter fits snug at the top. The pegboard was a 2x4 foot piece I bought at Goodwill for $1.99. I had a leftover lazy Susan from a previous remodel and made a turntable with that. The turntable lifts out when not needed. The compressor is a 1/3 HP Speedy Sprayer that I picked up at Goodwill for $39.99 a couple years ago. I made a storage tank out of Schedule 80 PVC to prevent surging. The regulator will be mounted just below the plenum and easy to access and view the gauge. I have to install the plywood door that will close over the front when the unit is not in use. -
That looks really great, so real! It looks like you could use a snowplow on it.

That's really cool. I love the body damage and weathering. Well done!

That's beautiful. Love the Buick brake drums. Nice detail all around. I'm on the hunt for a coupe kit.

Yes, that was the dilemma. So she made the 1,300 ride home last August from North Dakota to our current home in Western Washington. Funny how quickly they get under your skin!

All of your builds are so clean and have such great detail. I'm impressed. Keep them coming!

She sure looks like it. Her mother is Australian Shepard and her father is Great Pyrenees and Pit Bull mix (and looks like it). She doesn't look like either of them. I had a Border Collie/Lab mix who passed of old age about 10 years ago. Great dog and so protective of my kids. Her name was Molly, and this one looks a lot like her, hence the name Molly.

This is our girl Molly. Pictures at three, six and nine months. She has just as much personality and mischievousness as the photos would lead you to believe. But a very sweet girl!

That car is beautiful! I have to ask about your paint color. Years ago I built a '62 Bel Air for my brother-in-law, based on his 1:1 '62 Impala. His 1:1 was that same metallic red and I replicated it with a mix of Model Master Kiln Red metallic and Stoplight Red Metallic. I wish I had pictures of that one. I built the hardtop below to replicate another '61 color combination.

Second Gen Ford Bronco Design History

I owned both over the years, a '78 that I transplanted a 460 into, and a '76 with a 302. I really kick myself for selling the '76 8-9 years ago. Dumb. Someone mentioned the lack of four doors, which doesn't seem important until you have kids. I ended up selling my '78 after I got it just how I wanted it, because kids came along... bought a Suburban. ?
