  1. Easy...They are included in an old Aurora Parts Pack
  2. At the past GSL-XXV International Scale Vehicle Championship Mark Gustavson was enlisting aid from the modelers present. His request to us was to build a "clone" of a model car which should have been in the International Car Builders Museum. I told him I'd be interested building one for the museum. In due time I received a list of 156 models he was looking to have cloned. Almost all of the cars were customs and up to now customs were not something I built. After searching through the list I decided on Al Gaby's Golden Rod featured in the May 1964 Car Model Magazine. I was able to locate and purchase a copy of the magazine. Al's Golden Rod graced the cover of the magazine and was followed by a 7 page article. The article was very informative and described the multiple parts used to build this model. I was able to acquire all the parts I needed either online, through modeling friends and from the museum. The building of this model went much smoother than every thing leading up to actually building the model. I quickly discovered it's not as easy to build a "clone" of model car than it is building a replica of a real car. The only problem I encountered was the hinge for the drivers door broke during the final assembly causing the door to fall off. I glued the door in an open position to help highlight the interior. I am looking forward to contributing this model to the International Model Car Builders Museum next April at GSL-XXVI...hopefully they like it! I have posted a link to my fotki site with photos of the build, thanx http://public.fotki.com/crtr8z/classsics/al-gabys-golden-rod/page4.html
  3. I have painted a lot of models with Scalefinishes paint. My choice of a clear-coat is both Tamiya's TS-13 Clear and Model Masters Ultra Gloss Clearcoat. I have not had an issue with either one I always "mist" it on the first couple of coats, then hit it moderately heavy on succeeding coats. I've used both in rattle cans and decanted for the airbrush.
  4. The Revell 1/12 Vincent Black Shadow... A kit I always wanted to build, picked one up from a friend. It musta been one of the 1st produced, because the plastic was extremely brittle and kept breaking and nothing fit! Actually threw it in the trash, did not want to be tempted to play with it again!
  5. IndyCals has decals for this car. http://www.indycals.net/decals/indy/88qsporsche.html good luck
  6. and per Gallagher...buildings should be called "Builts"
  7. Randy I just stumbled onto this thread. Having seen the GT40 at both the GSL last year and DSC in April, it was quite enlightening to see the building of the car on the forum. I enjoyed meeting you in Arizona (DSC) and am looking forward to watching the progress of this exceptional model. You are truly a "Craftsman" and have inspired me to mess with brass in future builds. C'ya down the road, sir!
  8. Thanks for the kudos Vince, but I had never heard of the Dekon Monza until this morning. I watched a lot of Monzas race in the Trans Am Series, but don't recall the Dekon, but that was a long-long time ago! Someone else did the master for them. Looks like a nice kit.

The guys and Gals of The Los Banos Model Car Club put on a really nice low-key show and feed you as well (donations accepted). 10. Just came across this thread...I have a rat rod to join in on the fun. I built this for the NNL West this year, "Rat Rods" was the 2nd theme for the show. I picked the glue-bomb up at Oakie Al's swap meet and model car contest in Merced, CA. The model brought home the "Hottest Hot Rod" award from the Model Car Contest at the Santa Maria Custom Car Show this past weekend
  11. I did not have any problems with the kit. Went together fairly well. The Roll cage is just a little "Fidley". Tires are a little loose on the wheels (used thinned down Zap canopy glue to secure them) Body slid over the chassis effortlessly.
  12. I came across this kit a couple of weeks ago at the Local Hobby Shop. Kinda liked the look of it and decided it would be a fun build. And it turned out to be a fun build, looks kinda mean doesn't it? I added a little extra detail, such as fuel filler thingy on left rear quarter panel, scratch built dash w/guages, spark plug wires, Goodyear tire decals and window netting.
  13. This is one of the finest 1/12 scale plastic model kits ever produced. I've built a couple of these. You did an excellent job on building it! Keep on building sir...
  14. If you're gonna paint them, strip the chrome off. You will get more detail after doing that...
  15. I actually went to high school with a couple of the guys from The Count Five... Which gives you an idea of how old I be!
  16. Getting ready to head out to the West Coast Customs Kar Show in Santa Maria, CA this weekend. I decided to build a little custom for the Model Kar Show Don Grahamn puts on there. I had the Monogram (recently issued) '57 Ford Del Rio Ranch Wagon kit w/o engine (used it for a '54 Lincoln). Replaced the missing engine with one of the small block Ford's found in the Revell '32 Ford kits. Went with a dual carb set up, side exhaust is scratch built using aluminum tubing. White Wall Tires are from one of AMT's Part's Pack and Chrome Wheel covers are from a very old Aurora Parts Pack. I used the "Quad headlights" from the AMT 1950 Ford Convertible to add a little customization to the model. I also lowered the suspension. "Psycotic Reaction" decal is from Slixx Decals. Paint is Scalefinishes Wimbledon White and Candy Yellow, all covered with numerous coats of ModelMaster Ultra Clear Gloss.
  17. Not bad for a 30 year hiatus from model building! Looking forward to seeing what ya got next...
  18. Thank you, Sir Yep, the panel lines are a little on the "harsh-side"...they appear worse in the photos than on the model. She liked the model a lot, so there we go.
  19. Thanx I bet ya one of those would be a little pricey...I did not find one on while searching the world wide web... have fun...
  20. I was contacted by this fellow whom I had built a model of his '69 Chevelle SS a few years ago. His wife Robin has a '65 Corvette Roadster and inquired if I could build a model of her car. I told him there never was a scale model of the '65 Corvette Roadster produced, but I could probably do it using the a number of the model car kits of the '63 - '67 Corvettes. He sent me pictures of her car and I noticed she had '66 wheel covers and the older style 327 valve covers, so the search started. I already had a '67 Corvette Roadster kit and a '63 Corvette kit to use. My buddy Steve had a '65 Corvette Coupe body I could use. I found the valve covers in the '65 Chenille Superwagon kit. The '66 wheel covers were a different story, I could not find them anywhere! Modelhaus to the rescue, not only did they have the wheels but the white striped tires as well. I grafted the side vents from the '65 Corvette Coupe onto the '67 Roadster body, modified the hood from the '63 Corvette and used the the chassis and suspension from the '67 Corvette. Paint is Chevrolet XX Goldwood Yellow from Scalefinishes. The most enjoyable part of building this model is the fact I owned a same colored '65 Corvette roadster...wish i still had it! Well all said and done here is Robin's '65 Corvette.
  21. I like embossing powder I use white, after it dries, paint the color and then I shoot it with "Dullcote" to knock-down the "sheen". The results are very realistic for auto carpet.
  22. Very nice build so far, I almost did that car instead of Tony's ride.
  23. Pattos is a little tricky, but they have a kazillion decals. If you're looking for decals for George Follmers 1970 Mustang, click on "M" for mustang and scroll down until you find decals for Mustangs (Mstang). I found them under Mstang - Boss Trans Am Factory Cars I imagine you can do simuliar searches for Camaro, Challengers, Cuda's, Dodge, etc. I have ordered a number of decals from them, they are fast (usually under 2 weeks delivery) for being an Australian company. Also Mike Quarterman's long since gone magazine "Motor Racing Replica News" did a number of articles on building a few Trans Am racers. I have a pdf.file for every issue on a CD (with permission from Mike) I sell them for $15/$18 International each, shipping included. If interested in a copy, just message me.
