"Outside" Pictures of a replica of: Rick Dore's "Illusion"
ea0863 replied to John Teresi's topic in Model Cars
My favorite post of this past year! I saw the car at SEMA, and even took a few photos with Mr. Dore - who never wondered too far away from his creation. You nailed the colors, stance, lines and everything else perfectly! -
I've been away from the hobby for a bit as life just got super busy, so I decided to wade back into the shallow end of the pool before diving into more major builds. I had a tired Bburago Bugatti Type 59 that I couldn't make up my mind what do with - I've always loved the car, but not crazy about the tall fenders on this version. Thus, I decided to take the fenders off, and give the body a more weathered and raced look with lots of Tamiya Panel Line Accent black. I also hit the seat with Tamiya red, and various other paints and finishes to add a bit of realism. Finally, a silver marker and Molotow chrome pen were used for details. Overall, the model came out beautiful - far better than the photos I managed to take. The weakest link in the whole project was the spoke wheels, which are not really fine enough for this scale, but overall I am very pleased. Stock Bburago Bugatti Type 59: Customized and sans fenders:

Oooh, that is so tasty!

Dave, I am so glad you are keeping it as-is. There is just no replacement for such great patina!

Two great builds! As for the color on the Corvette, I still have my issue of Road and Track with that very color - - - it was all the rage back then

Yup. I ordered a couple of P70 bodies, and they were $50 plus each. Some listings are also for original runs, while others are for recent repops, so that makes a difference in price too. But, any way you cut it, you can't go wrong at $5 for the McLaren.

I happened on the Tamiya site and saw their 1:24 scale slot car m body parts set for $5.00! I wasn't even sure what the "M" body represented, but I ordered four on the spot https://www.tamiyausa.com/shop/124-sports-car-accesories/slot-car-m-body-parts-set/ A little bit of digging later, and it turns out Tamiya was calling these slot bodies by code letters - probably to avoid paying for the names. The codes would seem to refer to the following: #25116 "F" body is the Ferrari 330P2 #25117 "L" body is the Lotus 40 #25118 "K" body is referred to as the Shelby "King Cobra", but is in fact its cousin the DeTomaso P70 designed by Peter Brock (albeit with rear wheels exposed ala the DeTomaso 5000 Sport). #25119 appears to be unrelated to slot car bodies. #25120 "LO" body is the Lotus 30 #25121 "LT" body is the Lola T70 #25122 is the McLaren Elva which I purchased #25123 "P" body is the Porsche 906

Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 Spider by Touring 1/8 scale by Pocher
ea0863 replied to Mittagskind's topic in Model Cars
Oh Hanjo, that is beautiful enough to make a grown man cry. It's always wonderful to see a scale model look almost as good as its 1:1 counterpart, but in your case - it looks better!- 23 replies
