Site is not working right for me now
ColonelKrypton replied to GoodbuildNY's topic in How To Use This Board
@GoodbuildNY I don't understand why you are using a search engine to browse the modelcarsmag web site. I understand the use of Google or Bing or Duck Duck Go search engines to search for specific items on a web site but I have never considered using such a search engine to browse web sites. What are the advantages? cheers, Graham -

I am seeing ( or rather not seeing ) the same thing. I don't know if this is new behaviour since earlier today or just something I had not noticed earlier. cheers, Graham -
This thread has piqued my interest in AWB again. I have always had a soft spot for these kits since I first encountered them in my young teenage years 50+ years ago. Some time ago I happened to stumble upon Steve Magnante's videos on youtube and his Motor Trend videos where AWB models were the focus. The recent catalyst was when I also then happened to stumble upon on his book on building your own AWB car. Book in hand, videos book marked and I was off down the rabbit hole of researching early 60's factory experimentals, AWB funny cars, and other early flip top funnies. I got lost in analysis paralysis and never finished on of several models that I was trying to make too detailed, too accurate, too period correct. Those builds were put aside and are still waiting their day. My more recent interest in AWB's was sparked by Steve's infectious enthusiasm of the subject. My interest has been rekindled after following this topic here on this forum leading me to realize that I don't have to build something overly detailed, too accurate, or even too period correct. Just build something similar, sort of like, whatever pleases me; let my creative juices flow and have fun with the subject. And, that is just what I am going to do. I had the Chevy II body, chassis, and interior tub stashed away, completely forgotten until just recently. That has been retrieved and hunt for other suitable bits and pieces is on. I also found a kit of the recent AMT Round 2 Chevelle AWB release and that is now sitting on the workbench for inspiration patiently waiting it's turn. cheers, Graham

x2 from this corner....TIM Ditto. cheers, Graham

I would also add, that overall, the website seems to be functioning more smoothly and a bit snappier as well. cheers, Graham

I quite like the 57 Cadillac but the picture of the kit parts made me shudder. I doubt I would have attempted such a build. You are doing a marvelous job of fixing the kit turning a sows ear into a lovely silk purse. cheers, Graham

So far so good. Everything seems to be working as it should. I have been able to while connected to the website as https://www.modelcarsmag.com - log out, log in (without any indication of an insecure connection), reset my password, give "like" to postings, search, change pages in multiple page postings, etc... as I would expect without any warnings of insecure content. As well, there are nice little thumbnail pictures on search results and when viewing unread content page listing. Well done. cheers, Graham

I think they are still working on the updates. "Likes" and changing pages still only work for me ( using Chrome and Firefox on Windows ( 10 and 11 ) and Linux) when I connect using http:// (insecure) vs https:// (secure) for example http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/185663-forum-problems-please-read/page/4/#comment-2804780 everything works as expected whereas: https://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/185663-forum-problems-please-read/page/3/#comment-2795604 does not work as expected cheers, Graham -
Indeed. We have to remember that at time these kits were marketed to the young model car enthusiast, pre-teen and teen age developing car nuts. Accuracy was of minor importance. They just needed some sort of hook to catch the imagination of the young modeler. I always liked these kits as a young teen but was never in the right place at the right time with enough pocket money. My lust for these AWB kits went unfulfilled. These kits keep coming around as re-releases but this time targeted at the same audience that they were 50+ years ago only this time those teens are now middle aged (plus) adults. These kits are still appealing but are a bit wanting for anyone wanting to build something more accurate and period correct. Nevertheless, I will buy a couple, build them and have fun doing so. That's what the hobby is all about. cheers, Graham

It is not just the Chrome browser. I can replicate the issue using a variety of different browsers including the recommended Firefox and also Brave, Microsoft Edge, and Opera - disclaimer: this was true several weeks ago when I tried each one. The basis of the issue appears to be related to http:// ( insecure web connections ) and https:// ( secure web connections). On any different web page there will ( in all likelyhood ) many links to various other web resources ( i.e. images, advertisments, etc ). In order to connect to web page using https:// all of those linked to web source must also be https:// in order for the connection to be secure. When I connect to this web site with a browser using https: I get a warning about the connection being insecure and when I look at the page source I find many references to http: resources When I connect using http: I get a warning that the connection is not secure but the web site works as it should. cheers, Graham -
1950 Chevy Pickup
ColonelKrypton replied to Zippi's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
That turned out rather nice. Very nice choice of colours. Who would have thought that a Second World War RAF camouflage colour ( underside of wings ) would look so good on a custom pickup. cheers, Graham -

Nothing. I suspect the issue is that the web browser on you iPhone is connecting to the web site using https:// ( i.e. http secure mode ) and not http:// ( i.e. http insecure mode ). it is connecting to the web site using https:// that you encounter the issues that have been discussed - back button, able to leave "likes", etc ... - don't work as they should. I don't use an iPhone to browse web sites so I couldn't say one way or the other if you are able to change your connection to this web site from https to http. I am wondering starting to wonder what recent headway the admins have made on this issue as there has not been much if any discussion of late. cheers, Graham -

As a youngster I craved the AMT Mustang AWB but never had the pocket money to buy one whenever I happened to see one. Never been in the right place at the right time since then to find an original or a re-issue. How many times has it been re-issued? It was 65 Mustang but I have been thinking of using the recently re-issued 66 Mustang and kitbash my own. Now you've done it ... you've got me off on yet another tangent. It's not like I don't anything on the workbench already cheers, Graham

Welcome back. I have never build one of the issues of the Monkee Mobile. Always thought it was a neat looking custom. I have had a couple of kits where the plastic was soft, mushy, and just not very nice. I tried, beat on them with a hammer, but I never finished any of them. Just too frustrating. cheers, Graham
