Rolls-Royce No Chemicals, No Paint, No Harmful Glues
johnyrotten replied to Anglia105E's topic in WIP: Model Cars
If you can find it, 2024 grade aluminum shines up to an almost mirror finish very easily. That's what you commonly see on airstream trailers. Periodically I make panels for a builder of those at work, thickness as thin as .025 inch. This is 30 seconds with a microfiber and mother's polish. No other prep. -

aluminum rod inside styrene tube
johnyrotten replied to fiatboy's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I've found SOME aluminum tube and rod will fit in certain sizes of styrene after a bit of clean out with a drill bit. Hobby styrene tube most likely doesn't have a consistent wall thickness like metals will. Most likely because the way its manufactured. I can't begin to image the cost of drawn-over-mandrel super small diameter plastic tube. The plastruct butyrate or floral wire mentioned above is probably your best bet. -
Surgery of the d.i.y. nature often ends up disastrous and makes for interesting late night television and news articles.

Is that a control arm used as a mount for one of the turbo's on the left side?

A Sad Situation
johnyrotten replied to Falcon Ranchero's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That's an unfortunate truth with many "project" cars. Paperwork issues and storage ect. It's a bit sad seeing things rot away,I agree with that. Most of my projects have come from other's attempts, even this hobby here the majority of my kits and supplies are second hand. I've got a little bit of a soft spot for the neglected and derelict. -

The mechanics lien option, if it applies, is a route you might want to look into if you want that car. You seem to have a good relationship with the owner of the shop, you could pick that up cheap. Or even offer to barter labor for the car. You never know till you ask. I hate seeing old iron sit and waste away. -
" THE " ugly duckling of the early sixties. 1962 Dodge Dart

Nice save with the paint.ππ Unique, cool early dart. There's a wagon that runs at my hometown track its always fun to watch. https://youtu.be/E6M7bXiwhXE?si=n13GNvMz3r5waTqh -
That would be great. I seriously believe the consumer is now the last step in R&D, and we aren't paid for it. We actually pay to finish their work for them.

I completely understand the patience side of things David. I tend to build one at a time, improving my skills with each one. Having too many irons on the fire winds up with me side tracked, disorganized and scatterbrained. You've made serious progress here, especially considering the circumstances. Hopefully that pin will hold with the superglue. -
Awesome recreation. Looks spot onππ

Paint is your personal choice, those are the recommendations from the manufacturer to create the box art. Acrylics are mostly water clean up, enamels/laquers need a thinner/solvent. All have various odor, from bad to not, to put it loosely. Tamiya, Vallejo, revell, AK all make nice paints. Craft Acrylics are good for washes and dry brushing.

Do you also have 1:1 project cars?
johnyrotten replied to ctruss53's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Nice, obtainable goal. And a good looking ride. It's so easy to get carried away and wind up getting in over your head or worse. That looks like it'll clean up pretty well. -
Great looking car. And being "lower trim", find them more interesting. There's a sea of rs-ss and big block camaro's at every show. Your car would be something different.
